The last thread like this got deleted - how come MNHQ think this one is ok?

Sistanotcista · 13/07/2022 10:46

YANBU to mind about the noise and disturbance, if that is the case.
YABU to have used as capital "B" for "bar" in your opening post.

Why would it get deleted?

its just a chat about gardens!!!

ChiefWiggumsBoy · 13/07/2022 10:48

Who the fuck cares what's in other people's gardens? So long as they're not having loud parties all the time, then genuinely I don't care.

Because on MN it's fine to sneer at the 'lower classes'

MichelleScarn · 12/07/2022 22:28

How does it affect you what other people do in their own garden?
Oh are you NIMBY?

I think everyone has an opinion on at least something that doesn't necessarily "affect" them, or "bother" them. That in itself is not unreasonable.

Example, I hate smoking, loathe, detest it, can't stand it. It doesn't affect or bother me, other than people smoking when out in, say, a beer garden, because I don't smoke and nobody I socialise with smokes either (well one friend has about five a week so I don't even realise)

You pose 2 questions - fed up of seeing bars in gardens, and whether they are tacky?

I haven't really thought about whether they are tacky or not, but as to being fed up with seeing them, I can honestly say I can't think where I have ever seen one in a garden. Do you live 'bar in garden high density area'?

Apparently she’s not actually seeing them In real life, she’s seeing them on face book. At least I think that’s what she means when she says “drainbook”.

Which makes it even odder. My face book feed doesn’t have lots of garden bars, so I can only assume she goes looking for it.

I have v fun and wild parties without a bar."
You sound like a total A======e

crosbystillsandmash · 12/07/2022 22:31

I know a few people socially who have them.
They throw great parties and are lovely.

They would also never embarrass themselves and use the word chav.

They'd hardly self identify as chavs, tbf...

I agree tacky and cheap

This thread reminds me of viewing a house which enjoyed, according to the details, a Hawaiian style bar in the living room. The EA person showing us the house commented on that lovely feature as we entered but when she heard OH's comment of That would be the first thing to go, she did a complete 180 and said it wasn't 'very nice'. Opinions vary!

tootiredtoocare · 13/07/2022 11:09

We've converted our double garage. I keep my tumble drier and a freezer in there. We also have a pool table, a darts board, and table football. It has double doors that open into the garden. It's AMAZING.

There is not a single garden bar on my FB feed, I just checked.
Lots of gardens and quite a few beer shots, but nope not a single bar in a garden.

That does sound amazing! If I had room, I'd definitely have a bar/games room.

Thursday37 · 13/07/2022 11:25

I don't know a single soul with a bar in their garden - unless you count the Earl who owns the actual village pub and half the village so it's on his land.
I think it reflects on your friendship group @Mybumlooksbig

We do have a drinks fridge in the garden room if that counts? It's a home office with a sofa in it but it's a way from the house up steep steps, so it's nice to have a cold drink up there and not have to go back and forth.

Mirw · 13/07/2022 11:30

Are you this judgemental about all other people's houses, gardens and cars? Maybe their relationships too? Could it be you are actually jealous of these fun loving people and want the lives they have? Because that is how your posts read...

Chav stands for council housed and violent. Used to be used to describe Vikki Pollard type people but I see it more commonly used to mean "common" and/or working class. I don't know what context OP was using it in though.

It does not, that's a fake backronym. It's from Romany or Anglo-Romany origin.

To be fair, it is also absolutely fine to sneer at the "higher classes" too. Posters seem to find that totally acceptable.

SIUUU · 13/07/2022 11:38

Going off your logic, you must be a chavvy person (or one of low standing) if you live in an area surrounded by them.

Is it acceptable to be pissed off at people having loud parties in their garden if you are young? I don’t see what’s miserable about dreading living next door to antisocial behaviour. When I want to have a “bar experience” I go to a fucking bar, instead of making my neighbours life a misery by trying to recreate it in my garden.

TerriDK · 13/07/2022 11:42

I agree they are tacky but its not really my business so therefore you are being a bit unreasonable. I have more of an issue with hot tubs and astroturf!

BalloonsAndWhistles · 13/07/2022 11:43

🥱

SoupDragon · 13/07/2022 11:43

All the people complaining about how the noise "from the bar" disturbs neighbours surely realise that the noise is from guests and that a BBQ (which most people have) is likely to be just as noisy with added smoke pollution added in.

Scrolled through Drainbook earlier and there seemed to be ALOT of people showing their home bars off , maybe I'm bitter because I'm sat drinking my white wine on the sofa.....

Why do you follow "chavs" on Facebook then?

"Alot" isn't a word.

I didn’t realise it stood for something.
