I have an outdoor led lit ice bucket , came from Avon .

Reading your OP I thought Drainbook sold bars , I've never heard FB called that .

Our kitchen opens onto the patio so any top ups are just a few steps away. I can see the logic maybe if you have a huge outdoor space but it would be classier with the full outdoor kitchen and the type of bar area you hire people to tend. I watch too much Real Housewives though.

hangrylady · 13/07/2022 09:47

You're a snob, at least you admit it though! I spoke to my husband about getting one and we both said we like the idea. It's very Del Boy but I'm 43 and way past caring what others think. We probably won't get one though, because the 2 weeks nice weather in the UK doesn't really justify it.

puffyisgood · 13/07/2022 09:48

Having whatever you want in your backgarden is more than fine, an Englishperson's home is his or her castle etc.

The problem with these bars specifically, as many others have pointed out, is that they're strongly signalling that the owners is there's going to be a lot more drinking, probably drinking involving decent numbers of guests, in their back garden than is the norm, and of course when it comes down to it everyone would prefer quiet neighbours.

Ooooh link please.

VestaTilley · 13/07/2022 09:50

They’re not for me, and I don’t know anyone who has one, but each to their own - provided they’re not disturbing their neighbours.

Personally I love seeing a garden that’s actually gardened - a greenhouse, a proper mixed border, vegetable beds, fruit trees, and a lot of colour in spring and summer, but that seems to be rarer nowadays.

My friend has one and I love it! Her DH built it and did such a good job. It's the only one I know of so can't say I've seen them popping up everywhere!

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe · 13/07/2022 09:57

That makes sense, puffyisgood but rowdy drunken behaviour doesn't need a 'bar', just no consideration for anybody else. We live on a long road and sometimes people shriek and sing as they're walking up it, presumably from the pub as it's late at night. Quite loud and very annoying if you get woken up but, not too frequent either.

I don't see these furniture-type things, haven't actually ever seen a bar-garden anywhere, but to me these are akin to hot-tubs and the like. People have experienced them somewhere before, like them and want to replicate it at home. As others have said, we don't have that much nice weather here to make a garden bar some sort of watering hole, but if noise is an issue then that can be addressed.

OP just wants to feel a bit better about herself by 'making fun' of something that other people have.

PollyEsther · 13/07/2022 10:01

YABU and NU. In other words, they are tacky and chavvy as fuck, but really it's not your garden, so it's not your business what tacky, chavvy as fuck shit people put in it. They probably hate your tasteful shit too. Swings and roundabouts.

Neverendingdust · 13/07/2022 10:03

It’s not my vibe, neither are hot tubs or live laugh love signs but each to their own. For some reason garden bars make me think swingers 🤷🏻‍♀️

PortalooSunset · 13/07/2022 10:07

Meh. Don't like them don't have one. Live and let live. Agree with pp that shitty drunken behaviour in gardens has nothing to do with having somewhere to store alcohol out there.

Mellowyellow222 · 13/07/2022 10:07

I live the people who claim the neighbours aren’t bothered by the noise! If the bar is in a normal suburban area it impacts at least five other houses - probably more.

I guarantee not all those neighbours are at the party! Some are lying is bed wishing it would all end so they can get some sleep!

youlightupmyday · 13/07/2022 10:09

Ugh. What an grumpy, snobby and judgemental thread.

You walk among us... why not use your untapped vitriol on something a bit more worthy?

I agree with this. I don’t like them but I couldn’t care less what other people use their gardens for. I don’t like hot tubs, miles of decking, artificial grass (horrible) or those extortionate rattan garden lounge sets that turn one’s garden into a living room complete with sofa and coffee table. None of these things appeal to me…but I see plenty of photos of people enjoying their lounge set/bar/hot tub so great…have a ball.

AssignedSlytherinAtBirth · 13/07/2022 10:15

I've never seen one (except on those home renovation programmes) but yeah, chavvy AF, along with sex ponds hot tubs. But I would love a pool, or even a paddling pool, for about one week of the year. Re bars, I don't understand people who have loads of alcohol in their house/garden - the expense, the hangovers... I couldn't be bothered. I prefer a cuppa or hot chocolate. Liqueurs last me for two Christmases!

SleepSleepRaveAsleep · 13/07/2022 10:16

Not my thing, but each to their own. One of my husband's rele's is quite well off they have a pool in their garden and a large bar, not a crappy shed conversion, a purpose built job. It is actually really cool on a summers day, it's like being on holiday. A shed conversion in a postage stamp garden, yes not quite the same but if that's what you want in your garden fine.

Why is a hot tub chavvy if a pool isn't?

But some people like socialising and having parties .... that's not too hard to understand surely?

We don't have an outside bar but we do have lots of alcohol in the house as we have people round frequently.
Our neighbours have a garden bar - they're in their 70's and they throw the BEST parties.

This thread has become horribly judgemental.

Mellowyellow222 · 13/07/2022 10:27

I don’t get the distain for hot tubs either! i suppose it must be that they are very popular. But it’s just a padding pool for grown ups - who wouldn’t want that! (I don’t have one - beciase I am too lazy to keep it clean).

I do dislike the plastic grass - and those awful green balls people hang by their front door (why???).

but bars and garden speakers impact other people - so I am happy to criticise people who get them.

That's really, really weird.

Easilystartled · 13/07/2022 10:37

I’d love a hot tub!! A couple of my friends have them, they are definitely not chavs, and they are brilliant fun. All year round. We do joke about them being secret swingers though 🤣

Enko · 13/07/2022 10:44

They look tacky. I wouldnt want one. However YABU its their garden.

beefinthetrifle · 13/07/2022 10:44

Has nothing to do with you though is it? Bore off.

TheOrigRights · 13/07/2022 10:44

You pose 2 questions - fed up of seeing bars in gardens, and whether they are tacky?

I haven't really thought about whether they are tacky or not, but as to being fed up with seeing them, I can honestly say I can't think where I have ever seen one in a garden. Do you live 'bar in garden high density area'?
