Bars themselves do not bother me but it's the associated noise. I would never have one because lugging drinks outside and then back again is just more work.

An ex friend of mine has one made of wooden pallets. She apparently has lots of parties. I really feel for her neighbors.

Shehasadiamondinthesky · 13/07/2022 08:57

Im fed up of being around drunk people. The drinking culture in this country is shocking.

NOTANUM · 13/07/2022 08:58

Loud music, drunk antics and the peace of my garden destroyed.. I would be horrified if my neighbours got one.
It is right up there with people who watch TV shows on planes without earphones.

Yerroblemom1923 · 13/07/2022 09:00

@MoveBitch but audis and garden bars aren't classy, that's the point. It's the "Burberry effect". When something once deemed expensive and classy now becomes representative of the lower classes.

ArchitectBarbie · 13/07/2022 09:00

Grateful to never have clients request garden bars at work….

but ultimately it’s none of your business 🤷🏼‍♀️

Herejustforthisone · 13/07/2022 09:01

So apparently….

Outside kitchen = chic, aspirational, sign of wealth.

Outside bar = ‘chavvy’, common, indicator of disturbing fun, wild parties (though the OP claims to host these without a bar), a sign that the owners deserve your derision.

Anyone with a garden bar who might be feeling overwhelmed by the bile pouring forth on this thread, just stick a Baby Belling in it and you’ll be grand. All the MNers sipping Chablis from their sofas will want an invitation.

The lower classes?

What are they then?

SilverGlassHare · 13/07/2022 09:02

Tacky AF but as long as long as they're in someone else's garden and they're not up til 1am every night being noisy, let them get on with it.

Needmoresleep · 13/07/2022 09:03

If I had a garden I would opt for the pergola thing and Pimms on ice.....obviously! But I dont. One of the drawbacks of living in central London.

I used to be amused by the outdoor bar in the tiny patio garden of a council flat next to a bus stop I use. It took up the whole area and the garden was completely covered. The residents appeared to be popular hosts. I was amused but I am certain neighbours were not. It took two or three years to go, at which point I was sad for the residents, but very relieved for their neighbours as the lack of consideration was staggering.

Badger1970 · 13/07/2022 09:05

Our NDN's built one in lockdown, and in their front garden directly opposite our house. The result is that we can't have our doors or windows open at the weekends as they're out there until the early hours..... and they get louder and louder the more they drink. Trust me when I say that they're great fun for the owners no doubt but absolutely fucking torture for those who have to live near them. We complained to the local council as it has broken planning laws but it was deemed "impudent" to act upon due to Covid Hmm and the owner was "invited" to apply for restrospective planning permission which they haven't.............

Awombaweh · 13/07/2022 09:11

Mybumlooksbig · 12/07/2022 22:38

Also hero worships Mrs Hinch...

Are those the ones that bleaches their entire house twice a day and have long fake nails and hair extentions? (or have I watched too many How clean is your house)

Mellowyellow222 · 13/07/2022 09:24

the part that bothers me is noise.

a wouldn’t buys a house if the next door neighbours had one because I would worry they would be noisy and in considerate.

they are okay in very large gardens - but if someone goes to the expense of installing one they will use it.

like that selfish woman who posted a while ago about her garden sound system.

Somethingneedstochange · 13/07/2022 09:26

They're not for me but with pubs being shut over lockdown a lot more people put they're own bars in. It's nobody else's buisness what people do for fun in they're own homes. As long as they're not hurting anyone.

MeljustMel · 13/07/2022 09:28

Oh come on. Have you thought about how we just had a major lockdown? How this may be how some people coped? How this is a way that people can be creative and bring their family and friends together? My uncle has one and has lovingly created it all himself. Its brilliant, he has proper taps and absolutely loves putting on a BBQ and making people happy by inviting them over. I remember how Sunday dinner would bring families together. Times change. People are becoming more creative and experimental about how they use THEIR space. My uncle is big-hearted, which you are clearly not! If you don't like it, don't look!

Nolongera · 13/07/2022 09:30

We have a Tiki Bar in our garden so we are guilty of chavvy behaviour AND cultural appropriation!

Wanna come round and call us chavs OP?

It's unlikely any of our neighbours would come round and complain as often they are in the garden with us cracking on, we do knock the music ( quiet, small radio) on the head at 10 30.

Judge not, lest ye be judged.

thecatsthecats · 13/07/2022 09:37

Mybumlooksbig · 12/07/2022 22:31

I am a total snob, sorry.
I have v fun and wild parties without a bar.
Scrolled through Drainbook earlier and there seemed to be ALOT of people showing their home bars off , maybe I'm bitter because I'm sat drinking my white wine on the sofa.....

I'm a bit of a snob about people who come up with cutesy "I'm not into social media" nicknames for Facebook whilst admitting they use it, and who think that "a lot" is one word.

So you have judged them and I have judged you, and balance has been restored to the world.

Please do give us your snobbish wisdom as to what is classy and acceptable...

sqirrelfriends · 13/07/2022 09:38

I don’t mind them but if a neighbour got one I would worry about loud parties.

I quite like the idea of an outside/inside area in the garden. Maybe a covered area with a table and outside kitchen, I think a small bar would be a nice addition to that.

pictish · 13/07/2022 09:39

I voted Yabu because I think people should use their gardens as they like…BUT they are tacky as hell and I’d never do it.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe · 13/07/2022 09:39

StarDolphins · 12/07/2022 23:04

@crosbystillsandmash goodness me😂😂😂 lighten up! People are allowed opinions even if they differ from yours, it’s not like she’s gone round to ‘johns bar’ told him it’s shit, why has she got bad manners expressing her opinion🤣🤣 she’s only offended you, not the actual bar owning g neighbour! It’s an opinion on a forum!🙄🙄🙄

No, that poster and TabithaTittlemouse are not wrong, you are. This is a chatboard and it's read by actual people. It might be amusing to you to see people being made fun of but, not for everybody.

OP meant to be insulting and obviously so. It's par for the course that somebody so unbothered about declaring that people are 'chavvy' are so mistakenly convinced that they themselves are somehow elevated.

When did it become a 'thing' to rubbish whatever other people have or do just because it's something that you personally wouldn't?

So true! You notice it so much more in the summer as well! As much as I love hot weather it tends to encourage the pissheads and loud arseholes!

Lunificent · 13/07/2022 09:44

I don’t care what they have in their garden as long as there’s no noise.

YouHaveAnArse · 13/07/2022 09:45

Using the word "chavvy" is tackier than any garden bar could ever be, hth.

Report the noise. Do a log.
