As the title says.

We will have a new PM and the decision on who it is will ultimately reside with CP members.

I would rather this wasn't a political thread in the sense of Conservative/Labour/LidDem/Green etc.

I'm simply very interested to understand the direction of travel here for party members and would ask that people posting respect that and don't pounce on party members who post.

For reference I'm not a party member, but my uncle is and in his constituency he's saying it's a run off between Sunak, Mordant and Badenoch in terms of local support.

Priti Patel didn't even get out of the starting block Grin

Not a party member - hasn't the membership been infiltrated by UKIP headbangers?

That's exactly the type of post I was hoping to avoid.

Like it or not a relatively small number of the population will select our new PM and
I was hoping to get an insight into that.

That will not happen if posters throw around insults.

Party member, strongly supporting and would certainly vote for Tom T. He has integrity and would be a great PM in my opinion.

The rest of them I’m not really positively behind.

Definitely no to Penny Mordaunt, she isn’t trustworthy and doesn’t really stand for anything. I get the impression she is avoiding saying anything much and promising whatever needed to get the numbers. She will overpromise and would go back on what she says.

Anyone can join - I joined because I wanted some sane people to have a say in the likely next country leader, and in particular to vote against Boris. Didn’t work but worth a try.

If enough reasonable people join both the parties the choice of PM possibles would vastly increase. Please consider it!

PiffleWiffleWoozle · 12/07/2022 21:42

Also if you look at the polling, Tom T is strongest amongst voters.

PiffleWiffleWoozle · 12/07/2022 21:42

As in general election voters

Not a party member byt ny DBro knows Tugendhat from the past. He says he is a good man.

PiffleWiffleWoozle · 12/07/2022 21:48

The tory party used to have some excellent ministers but the current lot are scarily inept.

This is definitely a problem. Boris was scraping the bottom of the barrel, particularly by the end of his time. So low on ministers with competence.

topcat2014 · 12/07/2022 21:48

I joined the party last time to vote the anyone but boris candidate. Which was Hunt if I recall.

Likely to vote Sunak.

Genuinely, thank you.

BreadInCaptivity · 12/07/2022 22:09

So update from my Uncle via the family WhatsApp.

In his constituency at least he says there's been a swing in the last 24 hours from Mordant supporter's to Tugendhat.

General view is her campaign start has been lacklustre and support is wavering.

Lots of support still for Sunak and Badenoch's supporters are holding firm.

Truss isn't particularly well regarded in his neck of the woods so no idea how that translates nationally.

Obviously this is just a snapshot of one constituency and even within that it's somewhat anecdotal as DU doesn't know what every party member is considering.

KleineDracheKokosnuss · 12/07/2022 22:10

Tugendhat.

not sure who else.

not mordant - she’s TWAW through and through. Her recent ‘clarifications’ are misleading and merely for political expediency.

Scautish · 12/07/2022 22:16

I was just shocked given the other threads we’ve been on together. So not pouncing, just genuinely and very surprised. But it’s entirely your right to support who you want of course.

Isleoftights · 12/07/2022 22:16

It's a very stong diverse field, strong intellects, unusual backstories. Buddhists, Muslims, Hindus, Black, Brown, Immigrant, UK born, private and state schools all in the mix. Zaheed Nahawi was super competent overseeing the vaccine rollout. Tugenhadt has an impressive military cv, is telegenic, with Blairite zeal. Badenoch, in only five years as an mp, has made a real impression. Mordaunt stood up to doormat May's disastrous EU proposals, did that cool backflip off the 3 metre board on live tv, and has risen from nothing. Rishi (for me) has been to happy to aimlessly splash the cash. Tending towards Mordaunt, but want to here more from Braverman and Badenoch....and if it is her -
a bright, black, immigrant, anti-woke, women (who served fries at MacDonald's), would probably not be the opponent labour would choose (Party member). ps. Labour need to up its game in the diversity stakes.

Crankley · 12/07/2022 22:22

I'm a member and will vote for Penny Mordaunt.

Flopisfatteningbingforchristmas · 12/07/2022 22:28

I’m not a Tory member or voter. If I was I would go with Tugendhat. Not tainted by the previous government and when again Starmer he is equally as trustworthy, sensible and has a solid, respectable previous career.

AffIt · 12/07/2022 22:28

Not a party member (a card-carrying member of another party), but interesting to see the posts re: Tugendhat.

I have a few friends in Westminster who know him, and reckon he's decent. Alastair Campbell and Rory Stewart have also spoken reasonably favourably of him on the 'The Rest is Politics' podcast.

Not my politics, but I would be comfortable with that.

SkeeSkeeGoGo · 12/07/2022 22:30

Anyone but Rishi.

TheDogsMother · 12/07/2022 22:31

Definitely not Rishi. He left over 3 million people with no support during the pandemic. People lost their businesses, their homes and tragically their lives due to his arbitrary decision making. I know I can't influence this current decision but come the next election there are many people gunning for him.

He is Pro EU. Of course those two "like" him.

No to rishi, too close to what has happened. Maybe one day, but his time isn’t now.
I don’t like truss
My fave was Penny, but upon seeing comments on here I will look into her more. I think she messed up with her opening video though.
Hunt just needs to know he’s not quite PM material!

They may also like him because he is a genuinely nice person.

People with different beliefs or parties can like other people not of their leanings.
