This is how, when you come into an established or long thread, you can read any updates or extra information that the OP might have added, before you say your piece. Just tap on 'see all' which I've circled on the photo.

Thanks for looking. I hope it helps avoid a) you saying something irrelevant or b) other posters give you a hard time because of a)

But why do you feel its your job to protect the feelings of other posters? Surely it's a public forum and sometimes there are miscommunications? It's a wee bit bossy to tell strangers what to do, unless of course you work for mumsnet and these are rules?

Why the heck not help protect the feelings of other posters by making people aware of a simple tool that can help them avoid those miscommunications? Some of the examples cited sound very upsetting, and they're completely unnecessary.

Harridance · 13/07/2022 10:22

I'd imagine if you post on a public forum with a problem, you would be aware it could happen, when it rarely does.

Harridance · 13/07/2022 10:26

Havering, well not really no, pointing out someone is bossy is not telling them what to do. That's a bit of a stretch.

ShaunaTheSheep · 13/07/2022 10:27

The OP was bossybadly worded, but has made a few posters aware so has been useful.

Harridance · 13/07/2022 10:30

For the ones who didn't know perhaps, but it's never bothered me whether people rtft or not, because I can scroll through what op calls 'irrelevant' posts. It's a public forum.

Seems perfectly polite to me. How would you have worded it then?

Are you going to respond to my earlier question to you about the @ function being automatic now?

Harridance · 13/07/2022 10:35

surely it's more polite to say nothing

Not from the perspective of the people who did not know and who are grateful to have had it explained to them.

And there is a huge swathe of people in between who simply don’t mind or care at all. Only a small minority who may get grumpy about it. I’d rather upset that minority but potentially do another group a favour.

ShaunaTheSheep · 13/07/2022 10:41

haveringwavering no, I can't be bothered, sorry

Harridance · 13/07/2022 10:44

Likewise, Not everyone gets irritated by people who don't rtft.

Excellent, I’ll take that as an apology for accusing people of being rude when they were just using a Mumsnet feature.

I think you might be mistaken.

There is etiquette on forums... If you are going to reply, you should at least have the decency to read all the OP's current posts on the thread before replying. This is common sense and decency, surely?

I really enjoy that you express your common sense and decency this way. I don't, but I enjoy that, too.

It's part of civil discussion, which form the Talk guidelines. HTH.

ErrolTheDragon · 13/07/2022 14:36

Sometimes responses from people who haven't RTFT or even the OPs posts are funny. But usually they're just tedious, and in some cases as mentioned upthread they're unintentionally upsetting. Not inadvertently though, as it would be so easy to avoid.
Not bothering to read at least all the OPs posts before responding usually appears to be some combination of laziness and/or arrogance. Up to you if that's your style.

Harridance · 13/07/2022 14:39

There are much worse things I see on these threads that break 'rules of etiquette', - name calling, being called stupid for not agreeing, threats of violence, these rarely seem to be called out

Harridance · 13/07/2022 14:40

Lola4321, perhaps suggest your rule change ideas to mumsnet

StopStartStop · 13/07/2022 15:03

I think you should close mn to anyone who doesn't meet your standards. Then you could disappear up each other's priggish backsides and no-one would be any the wiser.

Good one! You should look at this too. Smile

🤣 haven't seen that in ages!

AnnotherReader · 12/07/2022 18:16

I love it because you can tell instantly if an OP has returned or not so I don't spend ages reading a thread that has no updates.

Me too, once it says "see all" on the ops post I don't bother reading too much further.

mathanxiety · 13/07/2022 18:04

@ShaunaTheSheep clearly the android app needs a revamp.

mathanxiety · 13/07/2022 18:05

@HaveringWavering - speech bubble shapes?
