Can we view only OP's posts please?

Hi there,

I would love a function that allows us to view only the OP's posts.

Of course I love reading all the responses, but when you are catching up on a long, long thread and want to make sure you haven't missed any important OP details or updates before posting, it would be really useful to click a button and be able to read through the 'OP journey'.

I think this is especially important when trying to give quality support to OPs in distressing situations.... it really matters to be able to see everything they have said, clearly and get the details right.

If we already have this, sorry and please could you tell me how to do it?

Thanks!

You can highlight their posts? Can't remember how though!

BaitandSwitch · 13/05/2020 09:35

Yes I agree - any comments from HQ?

Dilbertian · 13/05/2020 09:50

Agreed, especially on the app.

Let me guess... this will be available soon - but only to Premium subscribers.

BraveGoldie · 13/05/2020 18:16

Thanks folks! I guess HQ may only think about this if enough of us would appreciate it.

Anyone else?

Can you do it on the advanced search

tribpot · 13/05/2020 18:18

Yep, I'd appreciate this - I highlight OP posts but it would still be useful to 'collapse' the thread to see where the OP is at before answering (esp given the 'cancel the cheque' type situations)

Sparklingbrook · 13/05/2020 18:20

I wouldn't want this, but have seen that others do. I like to RTFT and responses especially if I am going to post anything.
I use Bookmark and have the OP's posts highlighted which is good.

BraveGoldie · 13/05/2020 22:47

How do you highlight?

I had the Beta MN App for a while which allowed the option to show OP's posts, so I know it's definitely possible. They stopped it the very day they announced MN premium Hmm

darkforceofexcesszeal · 14/05/2020 02:48

Just highlight the op’s posts. It’s been a freebie feature for years. It doesn’t help when they name change but it’s a start.

BitOfFun · 14/05/2020 02:51

If you click on Customise (the photo shows where to find it, although it might be different on your browser), there is the option to highlighting get your own and the OP's posts.

On a laptop, I think you can highlight the OP's name and then click F3, and that should let you jump quickly through their posts.

On an iPad or phone, if you put the OP's name into the search bar, scroll down to the option "find on the page" and do it that way.

If you use these tips, then a separate function on MN itself shouldn't be necessary.

Hi OP

Thanks for raising this.
It is something we are continuing to discuss with our tech team - hopefully we'll have a stronger update for you soon. Hang in there! Flowers

JustineMumsnet · 14/05/2020 10:16

Just to add to this - filter by OP is a feature we're currently working on. We'd hoped to release it across mobile and web in June but the furloughing situation has made it a little trickier but hopefully we'll still make it. We're also planning to roll out a simple quote facility in the same time frame. Thanks for raising it.

BraveGoldie · 14/05/2020 12:35

Thanks so much for the update, HQ- great to know it is on the way.

Thanks also @BitOfFun and others for the practical work around in the meantime. 🙂

Why has it taken so long to introduce a "simple quote facility" (not to mention automatic place marking)? Every single other forum I visit has these things.

Sparklingbrook · 16/05/2020 12:45

Why do posters want MN to be like every single other forum?

alibongo5 · 16/05/2020 14:17

To make it easy to use?

Sparklingbrook · 16/05/2020 14:23

I don't find it difficult to use, but i am not on any other forums so can't compare.

ArsenicNLace · 16/05/2020 14:30

You can just 'control F' with the OPs name to flick through the OPs responses.

alibongo5 · 17/05/2020 11:25

It's difficult to quote, it's difficult to find where you've got to in a thread - in other words, its antiquated. I'm just surprised that such a well-known site with such a large profile and staff numbers has such poor usability and technology. It obviously hasn't been updated for years.

Sparklingbrook · 17/05/2020 11:32

I copy and paste to quote and use the bookmark function to save where I am in a thread.
