Friend won't confirm my ID for passport...

simplytedd · 12/07/2022 09:36

I've lost my old passport.
I need someone to confirm my ID
My friend of 20 years is a nurse and I asked her and she said no problem.
So two weeks ago I applied online for my replacement and put her email address in etc
Two weeks later she still hasn't confirmed my ID

I sent her a message asking her if she had done it yet a week later ..
And she said "oh totally forgot, will do it tonight"
Then last night I text her and she said the same thing.

I'm going to Australia in 3 months and I'm terrified it won't be back in time.
Aibu to be annoyed that she can't just do it if she said she would ..I could of just asked someone else.

Yanbu. Just nag her, she agreed to do it.

SnowWhitesRestingBitchFace · 12/07/2022 09:39

I've been in the same position and if you log in online you can just submit someone else's details. If you have someone else you can ask easily I'd do that.

simplytedd · 12/07/2022 09:41

@SnowWhitesRestingBitchFace oh really? I didn't realise I could do that

Well she's said she would so your title is misleading.
Just ask someone else.
And plan in more time for this stuff in future.

AsterionSakosi · 12/07/2022 09:45

(and don't lose it again)

anotherbrewplease · 12/07/2022 09:48

@AsterionSakosi

Grin - wow - that told her all right!

Mariposista · 12/07/2022 09:51

Agree with PP. Either go round to hers if she is close enough and insist you do it there and then or call her and say you need it done now. She is a CF for faffing about.
I can go one further - my mum’s teacher colleague used to be asked a lot to verify children’s ID for first passports, back when the applications were done on paper and she charged them £20 each time!

simplytedd · 12/07/2022 09:51

@AsterionSakosi well not really ...as she said she would do it ,and she hasn't soooo
Also ..I wish I was more like you who has never lost anything in their life 🙄

Yep! That's what I had to do in the end and that was only back in September/October.

Quirkycarrot · 12/07/2022 09:58

Are you near enough that you can pop round or ask her out for a coffee during her lunch break? Then get it done saying I know you're busy and don't want to keep nagging you, let's do it now. Or during a phone call keep her on the line until it's done. At least you know not to rely on her in future.

That was a bit of a wanky thing to say, wasn’t it? No one plans to lose their passport - or indeed anything. Otherwise it’s not lost!

supertedlasso · 12/07/2022 10:15

I've never done one for an online app, but the paper ones ask for your passport number. Assuming the online one also asks, maybe that's slowing her down? I took to just keeping a pic of my ppt on my phone so I could do it straight away.

Think I'd prefer to do it online my handwriting is awful!

Hotinnit · 12/07/2022 10:17

Could you offer to pop round and help her with it (also bring chocolate to say thanks)

Mardyface · 12/07/2022 10:20

I would call her and ask her to do it when you're on the phone. Everyone knows passports are a nightmare at the moment.

marcopront · 12/07/2022 10:21

I agree with others remind her while she is in a position to do it.

As for the person who complained someone charged, if you are being asked by multiple people, it is reasonable.

Irishfarmer · 12/07/2022 10:23

Ask her again or as someone said change it to someone new. I'd be nagging her though as you need it ASAP!

Also 'don't lose it again" 🤔@AsterionSakosi do you think she lost it on purpose!!

Turnthatoff · 12/07/2022 10:27

3 months? You have loads of time. I had my PP in 5 weeks. ( you’re applying in the UK for a UK passport I assume?

kellj · 12/07/2022 10:31

You need to make it clear to her that it needs doing urgently and your holiday and money are in jeopardy. If she really is your friend and she said she'd do it then I don't see a problem with chasing her.

Dinoteeth · 12/07/2022 10:32

It probably involves her digging out her own passport for the number.

I've two friends who got passports this week one got their's in days the other took 11 weeks.

What a dick comment

simplytedd · 12/07/2022 10:43

Yeah it's a British passport

serenghetti2011 · 12/07/2022 10:45

I did it for my friend and her whole family it literally takes minutes so she’s just being lazy by not doing it. Can you ask someone else now?

For a renewal maybe but a lost one takes longer to process. I also lost mine. Have been waiting for it to be processed since early May. Kids renewals were back in a few weeks.

KylieCharlene · 12/07/2022 10:52

I had a 'friend' like this OP.
Offered to give me a character reference for a job.
I had to ask several times as the company kept telling me they hadn't received her ref.
Eventually she told me she'd sent it and I took her a box of expensive chocolates to say thank you.
Turned out she hadn't as the company actually called me and asked me for a different referee as they'd tried to contact her several times.
They checked her details with me and did indeed have the correct email address.

Could she just be one of those people who thrives on causing other people anxiety and drama and likes people's lives to be as difficult as possible to make herself feel better?

Find another person.

simplytedd · 12/07/2022 10:59

I wouldn't be surprised
She lives over aHour away so can't really just go over.
