Friend won't confirm my ID for passport...

simplytedd · 12/07/2022 09:36

I've lost my old passport.
I need someone to confirm my ID
My friend of 20 years is a nurse and I asked her and she said no problem.
So two weeks ago I applied online for my replacement and put her email address in etc
Two weeks later she still hasn't confirmed my ID

I sent her a message asking her if she had done it yet a week later ..
And she said "oh totally forgot, will do it tonight"
Then last night I text her and she said the same thing.

I'm going to Australia in 3 months and I'm terrified it won't be back in time.
Aibu to be annoyed that she can't just do it if she said she would ..I could of just asked someone else.

Agree that's annoying, I do loads of passports for friends and if emailed or asked to log on I always do it within a day or two - even once from holiday abroad!

@SnowWhitesRestingBitchFace oh really? I didn't realise I could do that

I had to do the same (change the email for the verification person etc) with my DS’s last week. It was verified on Wednesday/Thursday and then arrived with me yesterday (Monday). It was very quick following the verification.

(and don't lose it again)

How patronizing! Why are you talking to the OP as if she were a naughty child?

WhileMyGuitarGentlyWeeps · 12/07/2022 11:50

@simplytedd Further to what @AsterionSakosi said, go sit on the naughty step. NOW Hmm And THINK ABOUT WHAT YOU DID!!!

Grin Seriously. Hope it's sorted soon!!!

SleepingAgent · 12/07/2022 11:54

AsterionSakosi · 12/07/2022 09:45

Well she's said she would so your title is misleading.
Just ask someone else.
And plan in more time for this stuff in future.

Needing your coffee this morning are we? Grin

Or a snickers bar. Grin

IncompleteSenten · 12/07/2022 11:56

Message her and ask her would she rather you ask someone else because the deadline is looming and if she's too busy you don't want to feel like you're nagging her

For a renewal maybe but a lost one takes longer to process. I also lost mine. Have been waiting for it to be processed since early May. Kids renewals were back in a few weeks.

@Hoolahoophop I realise I am derailing the thread but do you still not have a replacement? My DH lost his and has been waiting since mid April.

simplytedd · 12/07/2022 13:16

She's finally did it wooo hooo
Just had a text "name" has provided details to help confirm your identity
We're checking these details

Does anyone know what happens now?
How long till it's verified etc ?

Awombaweh · 12/07/2022 13:19

Do you still have to have it confirmed? I’m not in the UK but they stopped that here a while ago. It used to be that you had to have it confirmed by someone like a nurse, policeman from that list they had. This time we had to go to the Australian embassy, and that was it.

simplytedd · 12/07/2022 13:21

@Awombaweh yes someone with a profession has to confirm your identity

@AsterionSakosi

Grin - wow - that told her all right!

I know, right? I don't think anyone goes out thinking "ooh, must lose my passport today".

simplytedd · 12/07/2022 13:26

I lost it during a house move.
I put it away that safe in a box -I couldn't tell you where the box went.
Everything was upside down.
It was always kept in a clear folder in my dressing table -soon as back from holiday it went straight back.
House move stress is my excuse anyway ha ha

Get someone else "of professional standing" to do it. Last time, our passport photos residence and ID were countersigned by our local pharmacist who had served our prescriptions for years.

That was after the manager at local branch of our bank refused. We'd been the banks ideal customers for 40 years but he was new and had never met us before so was unable to confirm the photos matched our real life faces right there in front of him. :-(( Tosser.

Hoolahoophop · 12/07/2022 14:24

@NovemberRain2 still waiting here.
@simplytedd you could be in for a long wait. Simple renewals seem to be quite quick 6 weeks ish. But new applications and lost passports were quoting 12 weeks when I applied.

Cakeandcardio · 12/07/2022 14:24

My son's first passport took about 5 weeks. They were quite good at texting saying it's been processed, out for delivery etc etc.

simplytedd · 12/07/2022 14:25

@Hoolahoophop my partners renewal took 10 days on the 30th June...but a page on Facebook are also saying replacements are taking longer
Fingers crossed it's before October

Hoolahoophop · 12/07/2022 14:28

I think you should be lucky. October is past summer holidays so you should be over the peak request time. 😀

Firstly the friend has done it.

Secondly unless it has changed the bank manager has to confirm he has known you for two years, so not unreasonable to refuse.

VirginiaCreek · 12/07/2022 14:40

Back in the day when it was paper forms I asked a friend to do it. She cocked the form up so I had to go and get a new form … she cocked that one up too so I went to get another form … when I got it back she’d cocked it up a 3rd time!!

I still don’t understand why she kept doing that. I asked someone else in the end - weirdo!

Hurstlandshome · 12/07/2022 14:46

@KylieCharlene

Could she just be one of those people who thrives on causing other people anxiety and drama and likes people's lives to be as difficult as possible to make herself feel better?

Nothing to do with this thread, but your comment really struck a cord. I have a friend who does exactly this to me. Over every night out or promise to do something (tickets for a show that she put on her card but are still 'stuck at a neighbours, who signed for them' except they weren't stuck there! Never thought about it in this way though. Didn't realise it was a recognised trait! Is there a personality disorder attached to it?

AliceS1994 · 12/07/2022 16:46

Not a big deal, explain you're worried about your holiday and ask nicely if she can prioritize it. I have confirmed several people's IDs before and it's a bit of a faff, would probs take her 30 mins so she might not have found the time. Promise her a pressie as a thank you- that might speed her up!

DashOfMilkNoSugar · 12/07/2022 16:59

Has your appearance changed dramatically as generally after your 1st passport you don’t need it verified.

I did an online validation for someone recently and they got confirmation that has been approved literally when I finished the online form and the passport arrived a couple of days later

I don't know if that's standard or they just hit lucky

Is OP allowed supper before bed?

OP, I'd ask someone else. It takes 2 mins. And most professions can do it.
