Friend won't confirm my ID for passport...

simplytedd · 12/07/2022 09:36

I've lost my old passport.
I need someone to confirm my ID
My friend of 20 years is a nurse and I asked her and she said no problem.
So two weeks ago I applied online for my replacement and put her email address in etc
Two weeks later she still hasn't confirmed my ID

I sent her a message asking her if she had done it yet a week later ..
And she said "oh totally forgot, will do it tonight"
Then last night I text her and she said the same thing.

I'm going to Australia in 3 months and I'm terrified it won't be back in time.
Aibu to be annoyed that she can't just do it if she said she would ..I could of just asked someone else.

Oh fuck off 🙄

Nocutenamesleft · 12/07/2022 18:43

@2bazookas the bank manager couldn’t do it

he was new and hadn’t known you for the legal 2 years

he was perfectly legally correct!

Not a big deal, explain you're worried about your holiday and ask nicely if she can prioritize it. I have confirmed several people's IDs before and it's a bit of a faff, would probs take her 30 mins so she might not have found the time. Promise her a pressie as a thank you- that might speed her up!

30 minutes? Unless you're the world's slowest typer it barely takes 3 minutes

All you do is enter your details then confirm the photo unless there are different versions I'd embaressed if someone offered me a gift for such a non issue, totally not necessary

Loopy3585 · 12/07/2022 19:49

Make sure you send them your list passport reference number. My mum applied for a replacement in April, ID confirmed same day and 12 weeks later no news from passport office. Call up and find out they haven’t requested the reference from her so they haven’t progressed the application it’s just sat there. She travels in 2 weeks time and we’ve had to jump through hoops to speak to the right people to find out what to do and finally she’ll be getting her passport on Friday

Flipflopblowout · 12/07/2022 20:19

I would be having another look at that friendship.

MixedCouple · 12/07/2022 21:21

I'd call one evening and ask if shw could do it while your on the phone. It change the details if you know someone more reliable.
How flakey of her though.

@Hoolahoophop my partners renewal took 10 days on the 30th June...but a page on Facebook are also saying replacements are taking longer
Fingers crossed it's before October

Babies first passport took just over 5 weeks. They had to have ID confirmed and more checks than typical renewal. I think you should well have it by October. Also was told by someone you can call if it is getting close to date of travel so they can try and prioritise it. Hopefully you won't wait long.

Longroadahead08 · 12/07/2022 22:20

Not posting to panic you but pls get it signed and sent off ASAP. Via fast track if at all possible.

Better to be safe than sorry. I know of a few people who’ve had to re-book or cancel their holidays due to delays at the passport offices.

Hope you get it sorted and enjoy Oz.

Your friend sounds annoying!

Mrssophie · 12/07/2022 22:21

How annoying of her, keep nagging! Not replacement but if it's any consolation our renewals came in exactly 2 weeks - much better than expected.

cofingalthetime · 12/07/2022 22:24

I thought you were going to say she said no! I had this happen - I messaged ds's form teacher to ask her if to sign ds passport form. When he took it in she refused to sign it - for reasons of "data protection". I had to email another of his teachers who signed it no problem. So it's good she agreed - maybe ask her one more time and she still doesnt do it, is there someone else you could ask. Not worth losing her friendship over

DontCallMeBaby · 12/07/2022 23:08

Timescale for lost passport - 10 weeks and 1 day from application to it arriving (my friend confirmed my ID the day I applied). It went into ‘processing’ status and sat there for weeks, the the passport office decided to stop using that description and it looked like it went backwards. It then went from approved to printed to arriving in the post within three days. I did kick off the upgrade process as per this thread www.mumsnet.com/talk/holidays/4543727-help-please-durham-passport-office?reply=118005646 the moment we got to 2 weeks before travel but it may have been coincidence it started moving when it did.

I then promptly caught covid and we couldn’t go on holiday after all 😭

Winterbaby21s · 13/07/2022 18:02

got my sons back about 2 weeks ago, it took about 6 weeks after the person verified it.

CactusBlossom · 13/07/2022 18:34

As she is a nurse, she may be worn out at the end of her shift. Take the heat off both of you by asking someone else. It is normal for people such as GPs to charge for doing this. Perhaps you could ask a neighbour or a pharmacist?

(and don't lose it again)

Surprised everyone’s so critical of this comment. I agree with you 100%.

Runnerduck34 · 13/07/2022 19:07

She's being unreasonable after saying she'd do it and keeps forgetting, I know people have busy lives and different priorities but a passport is important so she shouldn't sit on it for ages . If there's someone else you can ask and can change it do so.
Or if she's a very close friend just say I really need this done so i can make sure I get my passport in time, can you please get on with it!

Raizin · 13/07/2022 19:07

My friend just did my son's renewal. It literally took her less than 2 mins to do.

Change the deets and get someone else to do it.

Flamingle18 · 13/07/2022 19:15

I applied for my sons as he needs it for ID. His old one had ran out. Applied online and it was back within 2.5 weeks. That was last month

Are you hot 😂 my gosh your a miserable trunchball..

If someone says they're going to do something as important as them verifying a passport and they don't after a few reminders that's them definitely saying they ain't doing it!

She's finally did it wooo hooo
Just had a text "name" has provided details to help confirm your identity
We're checking these details

Does anyone know what happens now?
How long till it's verified etc ?

Bet she's a Mumsnetter and saw this thread and thought "fuck, that's me"

simplytedd · 13/07/2022 19:28

Can't believe it..just got a text to say it's been approved !
Can't believe how fast!
Hopefully won't take long now

Tiani4 · 13/07/2022 19:34

Glad your friend has gone online and confirmed it now oP

You know know she's a "bit busy" and tad flakey but she did do it. I can get busy and mean to do stuff so really appreciate my friends chasing me. I usually do things straight away if it's ready to go, so I don't get distracted with life and other jobs.

My DDs recent passport came easily well within 7 days after printed.

Tiani4 · 13/07/2022 19:36

Oml
You only applied 2 weeks ago. It takes about 5-10 weeks

You should have a ref number you can look up (track online) the progress of your passport application and you said you have 3 months before your trip to Aus. I'm gonna call it now OP that you'll be fine xxx

simplytedd · 13/07/2022 19:38

@Tiani4 I've just had a text to say it's been approved.
Can't believe how quick it's been done

Get someone else "of professional standing" to do it. Last time, our passport photos residence and ID were countersigned by our local pharmacist who had served our prescriptions for years.

That was after the manager at local branch of our bank refused. We'd been the banks ideal customers for 40 years but he was new and had never met us before so was unable to confirm the photos matched our real life faces right there in front of him. :-(( Tosser.

Surely it would have been illegal to do it? You have to have known the person for 2 years….so he was correct to refuse….I’m a nurse…I would never sign for someone not known to me for less than 2 years….you sound like the tosser…an entitled tosser 🙄
