She stuck her middle finger up at the crowd and yelled "he who laughs last laughs best. Wait and see!"

It's so infuriating to see this country reduced to this state

Rayner*

Garron · 09/07/2022 15:58

I’d sack her. From what I’ve heard it was hardly a “baying mob”, and even then she shouldn’t have reacted.

PerkingFaintly · 09/07/2022 14:02

I'm quite sure they say and do worse as banter in private, but I was absolutely shocked that she felt it appropriate to do that to the public as she walked into Downing St.

The mask really has slipped, hasn't it? They don't even feel the need to pretend any more.

Admittedly it was very inappropriate behaviour but being totally honest I prefer that to a government who can't say what a woman is......

Ffs is this the answer to absolutely everything in politics?

ilovesooty · 09/07/2022 16:02

Floraanddougal · 09/07/2022 14:39

I’m assuming the next leader will take her out. Of course she can’t do that role. She shouldn’t even be an mp when she’s walking around giving the public the finger.

Agreed. She used to be my MP and she's totally unfit for office.

ilovesooty · 09/07/2022 16:04

x2boys · 09/07/2022 15:51

Well they will have to shut Angela Raynor up then, they would be a bit hypocritical, considering she calls people scum ,she even did it in the house of commons

The apologists for Johnson and his supporters never stop with the whataboutery.

ilovesooty · 09/07/2022 16:04

The apologists for Johnson and his supporters never stop with the whataboutery.

Angela Rayner is the deputy leader of the opposition, you think her comment were appropriate?
I'm comparing the two people are allowed to disagree with you .

MalFunkshun · 09/07/2022 16:10

I don’t think Angela Raynor calling the Tories ‘scum’ is ok, but I also don’t think this is the same 😏1) because this woman is a member of the government, 2) because she’s now, theoretically, in charge of setting and upholding standards for education of children and young people and 3) because she’s attacking a crowd of journalists, not elected politicians who know these kind of insults come with the territory (wrongly, I know).

These last few weeks it really feels like there’s not even a pretence at behaving remotely professionally across the whole bloody government.

AmaryIlis · 09/07/2022 16:13

She's an absolutely useless constituency MP. Parents of children with SEN in her constituency say she is totally unhelpful.

Well Angela Rayner is the deputy leader of the opposition so I think it is comparable its not like she's a little heard of back bencher is it ?

LadyWithLapdog · 09/07/2022 16:16

There’s a thread on here today where a Mum is raging that her DD (7) appears in a photo next to a little boy giving the finger. You can read for yourselves the replies.

How is it possible this is acceptable for an Education minister? This truly us the Nasty Party.

TheNestedIf · 09/07/2022 16:21

She shouldn't be education secretary because of the standard of grammar and punctuation in her non-apology.

Then because of the finger.

FitAt50 · 09/07/2022 16:21

I think we have no idea of the level abuse that MP's get on a daily basis, especially female ones. She was letting of a bit of steam, probably being screamed and and name called by the crowd - I don;t blame her.

whereamu · 09/07/2022 16:23

I'm going to organise a doorstep protest every Thursday at 6pm against the tories.
It's the opposite of the clapping for the nhs.
Please get as many members of your household to appear on your doorstep wearing yellow and flicking the bird.

Just need to think of a song for the soundtrack.

DrManhattan · 09/07/2022 16:25

Am I actually living in an episode of the thick of it?

Why has no one got any integrity anymore. She should quit. What a total joke.

PronounssheRa · 09/07/2022 16:30

Blossomtoes · 09/07/2022 15:45

Labour are not going to capitalise on it.

I’d bet my house they do, they’d be mad not to.

It would be wise not to, there's already a photo of Emily thornberry doing the same at an evening standard event. No idea of the context, but that won't matter.

Tanith · 09/07/2022 16:35

She's totally unsuitable, regardless of what she did and her reasons for it.

I wonder if she's been chosen to usurp Gove's reputation as the most hated Education Secretary in time for the GE.

ilovesooty · 09/07/2022 16:43

x2boys · 09/07/2022 16:08

Angela Rayner is the deputy leader of the opposition, you think her comment were appropriate?
I'm comparing the two people are allowed to disagree with you .

I believe she issued an apology for the remark and it was addressed to her fellow MPs, not in behaviour to the general public.

Of course you're allowed to disagree but it would be helpful if you concentrated on a justification of Andrea Jenkyns ' behaviour. Of course if you want to support the behaviour of a Johnson supporter, a documented liar and hypocrite, and someone who can't uphold the standards expected of an MP, let alone an education minister, do crack on.

ilovesooty · 09/07/2022 16:44

AmaryIlis · 09/07/2022 16:13

She's an absolutely useless constituency MP. Parents of children with SEN in her constituency say she is totally unhelpful.

As someone who used to live in her constituency I'd endorse that.

FitAt50 · 09/07/2022 16:21

I think we have no idea of the level abuse that MP's get on a daily basis, especially female ones. She was letting of a bit of steam, probably being screamed and and name called by the crowd - I don;t blame her.

No justification for her behaviour and her non apology subsequently issued.

ilovesooty · 09/07/2022 16:43

She issued an apology ,several weeks after her remarks, after saying she was never going to apologise, so I don't think it was done in good faith .

ilovesooty · 09/07/2022 16:47

So @x2boys , any chance of your justification for the behaviour of Andrea Jenkyns any time soon?

ItsSnowJokes · 09/07/2022 16:50

the80sweregreat · 09/07/2022 12:06

It's not good at all , but Angela Raynor stayed in post after calling the conservatives scum. I feel this way out of order too , even though I've never voted for that party myself
It's what we have been reduced to I'm afraid
I don't condone anyone carrying on like this , but until there is an election we have to put up with this kind of behavior I suppose

Angela Raynor told the truth about Tories, she didn't say it about the public who are your constituents and who pay your wages. Very different circumstances.

No way should she be an education minister, they have to be professional and have higher standards and to stick your fingers up at the public like she has she should be sacked immediately.

x2boys · 09/07/2022 16:55

ilovesooty · 09/07/2022 16:47

So @x2boys , any chance of your justification for the behaviour of Andrea Jenkyns any time soon?

Im not justifying her behaviour, I was merely pointing out that the Labour Party would be unwise to make a big deal of this for political gains, given the behaviour of their own deputy leader which was hardly appropriate given her position.

ilovesooty · 09/07/2022 16:56

So @x2boys are you prepared to condemn her behaviour then? Do you think she's fit to serve as an education minister?
