Why is it that the gussets are so tiny that you've always got a flap hanging out?

Why are most knickers I've come across like this?

I'd like something that covers my neatly trimmed lady garden without having to suffer a front wedgie.

Does anyone have any recommendations?

I wrote a similar post a few weeks back but unfortunately I bulk bought a load of knickers from next so now have to put up with them until they wear out so I have tried any of the recommendations yet

whynotwhatknot · 09/07/2022 16:28

looks like i'll just have to guess a size and go for it

I sized down for Wirapa. I don't have a massive bum though. I just like a wide gusset.

RudsyFarmer · 09/07/2022 16:57

I’m bought Tesco full briefs recently and they’re huge. I should have sized down. Comfy though.

Squiff70 · 09/07/2022 16:59

DP just caught me shaking my head whilst reading this thread and asked if everything was okay. I said so many women are having problems finding suitable knickers and referred to "flaps and bum cheeks falling out". I explained the issue of gussets "as thin as dental floss" and how that creates a problem for people using sanitary towels, bladder weakness pads, maternity pads etc. I said "you'd think, wouldn't you, that people who design and manufacture clothing FOR WOMEN would design and make them to fit women's bodies and consider other needs of women?".

His reply? "They're not made for women though. They're made for men." As he said this, he made a hand gesture simulating male masturbation. That about sums it up, ladies.

FfeminyddCymraeg · 09/07/2022 17:05

I basically just wear these now. They are comfortable, cotton, don’t sit too low, but, and have a decent gusset!

They look very similar to the M&S ones linked above 👆

The knickers I wear daily are not the knickers I'd wear on a date! When I was young and dating I'd match my knickers to my bra and I wore g strings. Now I'm older I can't be fucked with g strings and in the hot climate I live in I couldn't think of a more unsuitable knicker.

Tabbouleh · 09/07/2022 12:00

Also shrinking gussets make it tough for me to wear sanitary napkins. I know everyone wears tampons these days but they don't suit me.

Ugh yep!! I'm always mega paranoid it'll fall off

Tr1skel1on · 09/07/2022 18:57

There's a reason M&S are still in business, it's not down to their dresses! Midis, possibly a size up, are the answer.

StressfulBedtimes · 09/07/2022 21:20

I see a lot of the links are for full knickers, has anyone ever found a thing with a wide enough gusset to contain … ahem, both sides??

AlmostAJillSandwich · 09/07/2022 21:46

I have OCD and am very particular about wide gusseted underwear. I like matalan shorts style, their high leg aren't too bad either. Or if you're near a costco, they stock a brand called its.e-bits.e by french connection, the bikini ones are my preferred, and in both brands i'm a size down from my jeans size. I can't stand when underwear comes up higher than my jeans etc so full briefs aren't for me.

onlythreenow · 09/07/2022 21:55

Bonds were great for gusset width, but can no longer get them in UK

I'm not in the UK, but was going to suggest Bonds until I saw this post. If they stop being available here I will be protesting!!!! Mind you, I have enough of their boyleg briefs to keep me going for a few years yet.

balalake · 09/07/2022 21:58

Alongside the OPs concern, what I dislike is clothing being of such thin material that underwear is visible. It is underwear, not meant to be visible.

LondonQueen · 09/07/2022 22:04

Buy a size up from your trouser size and you'll be all good.

EntertainingandFactual · 10/07/2022 06:29

@Squiff70

I just showed that to my partner and said "You know when you've been with me when I've been looking for new knickers, and I wander round for ages looking at different styles looking utterly baffled whilst half a dozen other women are in the same shop doing the exact same thing and looking equally baffled?". "Yeah?". "Well, THAT'S why!"

I agree.
Thank God M&S 7 pack, black full briefs exist! 🤣

UseOfWeapons · 10/07/2022 06:56

I’m with you, OP. It’s years since I’ve a had a pair of knickers that I trust. They can be too loose, the edging is that ridiculous scalloped trim, one arse cheek in, one out, or my long-suffering lady garden playing peekaboo with a scrap of material. Going up 2 sizes doesn’t help. Buying smaller sizes means I have a VPL even they’re nonVPL knickers. Do designers not understand our anatomy? I tried the nuclear option (Spanx), but the feeling of being in a bottom straitjacket isn’t one I’d repeat. I want mostly cotton, cups my buttocks comfortably, no ‘ride up with water’, no VPL, lady garden demurely hidden.🤦🏾‍♀️

StarlightLady · 10/07/2022 07:22

I often wear M&S Brazilians and never had this problem. It seems to me that some women are being somewhat economical with the truth about their actual size.

Ha! I am 5"7 and a size 10-12. I just have a wide vagina, as pp said:) Also I have no interest in waxing my ladygarden to fit into tiny gussets, even if that is now the done thing.

Even if I were secretly a size 24 and being economical about my actual size, gusset size stays the same, does it not?

Penguinsaregreat · 10/07/2022 07:39

M&S full coverage knickers.
I don’t buy anything else.
Men all tend to wear full coverage shorts where EVERYTHING is covered from the waist right down to their thigh.

EmeraldShamrock1 · 10/07/2022 07:39

You can't beat a good fit bum hugging pair of pants.

ClumpingBambooIsALie · 10/07/2022 07:44

I just crossdress. Men's briefs. Gussets for miles. And fully fabric-encapsulated elastic, so no razor-blade effect from cutty-in scalloped elastic. For extra comfort, I wear them inside-out. Yes, I have a fat fanny, but at least it's a comfortable fat fanny.

RampantIvy · 10/07/2022 07:44

I have the M and S lace and cotton full briefs and midi briefs and never have this problem.

StarlightLady · 10/07/2022 08:44

@Tabbouleh - Surely it stands to reason that a gusset in a pair of knickers in, say, size 10 is going to be narrower than the size 24. The latter might make a good hammock though 😀.

Sometimes l wear thongs (depends on outfit and my mood) and I still don’t have this problem.

Finally, to those who consider 100% cotton to be holy grail, it has no stretch which can be part of the problem.

Tabbouleh · 10/07/2022 08:48

I don't know. I find the whole thing confusing and a fairly recent problem DD is a size 6 and her gussets appear to be the same as my size 12's. Someone with experience in the clothing industry should advice. " The Mystery of the Disappearing Gussets".

Whatwouldscullydo · 09/07/2022 13:21

Don't go for boody. They are soft akd comfortable yes. But they just fall down and they are so thin and light thet don't hold a pad properly

Really? That's never been my experience. The fabric is thick and elastic soft and strong

Whatwouldscullydo · 10/07/2022 10:03

Mine constantly fall down even im skinny jeans which you'd assume would hold them in place. They do feel comfortable and really breathable. But i do wish they'd stay up.
