To go on a plane with covid?

Coursha · 09/07/2022 08:38

I have covid right now and due to fly to Spain in a few days. The rules are that I just need to show my vaccine pass but doesn’t seem to say don’t travel of you have covid. Can this be right? Don’t know if I need to cancel. I tested positive 4 days ago.

100% not unless after today you test negative every day.

Travelling on a plane with Covid is as bad as driving after a few drinks in my opinion.

That's a ridiculous comparison.

I was floored when I had covid. Never felt so unwell in my life and I'm not vulnerable and am vaccinated. Don't do it, that would be so unfair to others.

Well that's unlucky. Everyone I know who's had Omicron have said it's basically a cold.

Omicron was very mild for me, but I know quite a lot of relatively young, healthy people who have been really poorly with it. It definitely isn't just a cold for everyone.

Zonder · 10/07/2022 23:01

I agree @Anothernamechangeplease

I was really poorly with Omicron and whatever variant we are on now seems to be making a lot of people pretty poorly - exhausted and like bad flu.

That's nice. I'm in hospital with it, sorry that challenges your view.

Anothernamechangeplease · 11/07/2022 12:16

Flowers @Madhairday, hope you feel better soon.

Thank you @Anothernamechangeplease x

Just because it was only a cold for one person doesn't mean its like that for everyone ffs. I'm sitting here now with and I feel like I've been hit by a bus, never felt as ill in my life and I've had a number of other variants. Some very selfish twats on this thread.

😰 What are your main symptoms? And what day are you on?

Livinginanotherworld · 11/07/2022 17:43

Marsoupial · 09/07/2022 17:09

For everyone saying there's no rules on chicken pox etc.

There are:

BA's chickenpox policy states that you can fly 6 days after the last crop of spots, providing the spots have crusted/scabbed over and the passenger feels well and has no fever. You will require a letter from your Doctor confirming you are no longer contagious.

This is not just a BA regulation…..all uk airlines have this rule.

Tootsey11 · 11/07/2022 17:48

@ludocris day 3 of symptoms, the body aches are horrendous, there isn't a part of me that doesn't hurt. Can barely lift the kettle. No taste, banging headache, exhaustion, dodgy stomach, chest pain and burning, dizziness and weakness. If I could get rid of the body aches I think I could deal with the rest. This is my 5th time of covid and the rest were a walk in the park compared to this.

How horrible on top of a heatwave! 💐

I'm fed up of people down playing the symptoms. There are different variants, I've had it twice, first time i was asymptomatic. I have just caught it on holiday and so have the friends I was with, we are all struggling with breathlessness, coughing fits, can barely speak, can't taste and have severe fatigue, it is the most ill I've been in my adult life.

Had I came down with these symptoms before I arrived I would have cancelled my flight.

However, in your case I believe you'll be out of your contagious phase by the time you go.

People saying they had it mild is not downplaying the symptoms. Some people genuinely did not have it bad. Not everyone with Covid has been knocked for six.
I had it very mild. That is not me downplaying the symptoms. I am just saying how it was for me.

ApplesandBunions · 11/07/2022 22:13

Exactly. People relaying their genuine lived experience of mild symptoms aren't downplaying any more than a person telling us about their genuine serious symptoms is exaggerating. If its legitimate for you to tell us you've never been more ill, it's equally legitimate for people to say it was nothing much for them.

FixItUpChappie · 11/07/2022 23:12

I would go and so would (are) lots of other people - I don't see the point of pretending it's not everywhere already and I'm getting on with my life. I would wear a mask and sanitize my hands frequently but otherwise I would go. I guess that's selfish but I am certainly not alone in this thinking 🤷‍♀️

Yes but there are people downplaying symptoms like the post above I quoted which was casting disbelief over someone saying they'd been very sick, saying that was 'unlucky' as 'everyone she knew' had a mild sniffle. It was worded so as to pour scorn on someone who said they were ill.

Ok, I'll rephrase.

"I'm fed up of people down playing the symptoms of others just because they had it mild".

FixItUpChappie · 11/07/2022 23:21

if there is any chance you could pass it on then you shouldn’t be flying

That would be most people then as most people are not testing.....anybody 'could' pass it on Confused

Yamyam13 · 11/07/2022 23:30

I know 2 different people who have flown back to the UK with covid in the past week. One knowingly, the other only become aware upon arrival.
A different friend said he'd fly home to Australia regardless after hearing a close contact had tested positive...
I don't know how I feel about it all myself. But after 5 days, if you aren't symtomatic anymore, I'd say it's a better scenario...

True, but that particular poster said exactly what I'd expect her to say. She has downplayed everything from day one, and that shakes the defence somewhat. She isn't alone in that, either, and you know it.

mtw · 12/07/2022 02:56

Of course go!!

Someone who has been very sick is unlucky, though.

Ultimately, either it's fine for people to talk about their own experiences or it isn't. I quite understand thinking people shouldn't universalise their own experiences, but if that's your stance it needs to apply to everyone. This goes for you too @Dishh. Complain about everyone or nobody, otherwise what it's actually about is your own stance on the issue from day one.

My friend was very, very poorly with Omicron a few weeks ago. She lost her baby at 6 weeks due to it.

My asthma become uncontrollable due to Omicron, it was v scary and I felt dreadful. I know loads of people who have suffered horribly with Omicron, so for some it’s not ‘just a cold’ 🙄

Like I said, I agree with you there - as long as the experiences shared are actually authentic and not simply supporting a long-held narrative and view. If my experience of Covid isn't as bad as my recent experience of pneumonia, I'd be happy to say so. FYI, I'm not complaining about anyone. I'd just like all posters, whatever their views on Covid, to be as genuine as possible with their experience.
