To go on a plane with covid?

Coursha · 09/07/2022 08:38

I have covid right now and due to fly to Spain in a few days. The rules are that I just need to show my vaccine pass but doesn’t seem to say don’t travel of you have covid. Can this be right? Don’t know if I need to cancel. I tested positive 4 days ago.

I've caught covid on holiday and it's completely ruined my holiday. I wouldn't go on a plane if positive, no, that's just selfish. But it sounds ambiguous in terms of timing op so you may not be positive/contagious.

Those who keep saying that CEV people are just as vulnerable to colds, flu etc, are not taking into account the sheer prevalence of covid. 1 in 25 people do not have cold or flu, but do have covid. So the CEV person is much more likely to suffer because of covid than colds or flu. I've certainly never felt this sick catching a cold, I'm CEV and it is as bad as my last double pneumonia.

Why? Surely if you’re ill you test? I had a terrible headache yesterday that I’ve only ever experienced when I last had covid, so I tested. It’s positive.

Test with what, I don't go running to the chemist every time I have headache to buy tests

It’s not a normal headache though it’s not touched by painkillers and makes you feel terrible. We had tests in the house left over but I would have gone and got some had we not as I work with CEV children and I’m a responsible person 🙄

TheKeatingFive · 09/07/2022 13:44

My main covid symptom was a mild headache that painkillers dealt with immediately.

Had I not been a close contact, no way would I have tested, I barely noticed it.

People need to start getting their heads around this.

There is no requirement to test any more. So many people have Covid. In the supermarket, in the schools, theatres, restaurants- you could pick it up anywhere. And it’s mild now for most.

Planes have HEPA filters which replace the air in the cabin every few minutes. I’ve been a close contact on many flights and not caught it.

If you currently get on a plane, please know that probably at least 10 people will have Covid as there is no requirement to test. So asymptomatic people, people who think they have a sniffle or a cold. That’s not being selfish and purposely killing people. Tests cost money and we don’t need to test any more. I am not sure why people still are? Unless visiting vulnerable people.

So many unhinged people on this thread need to start to realise that this is life now. If you don’t like it then don’t go out. You are just as likely to pick it up in the supermarket as the plane.

I agree with this. It's actually quite difficult to catch covid on a plane, due to the way the air filtration systems work. Not impossible, but unlikely.

If someone catches covid in a travel scenario it's much more likely to be at the gate, in the security hall or in the departure lounge. Or before they even got to the airport.

Ivgotasecretcanyoukeepit · 09/07/2022 13:45

Rather than listening to opinions which can quite frankly vary depending on the individual I would stick to advice so after 5 days isolation you’re free to go about your daily life and that includes flying. No way would I not fly I had completed isolation and by Tuesday more than likely you will test negative anyway.

Some real thickos on this thread. Covid obviously wasn't the same as a cold or flu or it wouldn't have been so dangerous. I actually wish there hadn't been a vaccine and it had just wiped everyone out. I can't believe how stupid and entitled people are. Hopefully another one will be along soon with special.spikes for the terminally stupid. And Spain?.killing people.for a shit holiday in Spain? Sad.

Ooh, how very 2020! It's like covid bingo all over again.

Wavygravy1 · 09/07/2022 13:47

Geez I am saying FOR ME this is not a normal headache!

TheKeatingFive · 09/07/2022 13:49

And for other people it's different including, presumably, the poster you were answering.

Even symptomatic covid presents in a lot of different ways: you're talking about something you have already had experience of as a covid symptom and so were easily able to identify. It could just as easily have been a snotty nose, different type of headache to the one you experienced, tiredness, a couple of looser than usual shits and any number of things that people might not even identify as being ill.

Also, you were going to go out to a shop when you suspected you had covid? Prepare for the pearls to be clutched!

I tested because my dh is CEV ,and my son goes to a special school for children some of whom have profound and multiple learning disabilities they are tube fed on oxygen etc I would hate my son to pass covid onto them ,I'm positive so trying to stay out of everybody,s way ,and a friend passed on some tests ,not everyone has the luxury to just not care about covid .

Wavygravy1 · 09/07/2022 13:53

She was making out that I’d run to the pharmacy for a test for a normal headache. I was saying it wasn’t a normal headache.

Wavygravy1 · 09/07/2022 13:54

Most likely I would have sent DH or the kids who are negative.

GoodJanetBadJanet · 09/07/2022 13:54

I’m quite laid back about the whole learning to live with it, but even I’d draw the line at that
Same.
Just no.

Wavygravy1 · 09/07/2022 13:55

Exactly. This is the kind of school I work at. People are happy living in their little bubbles where they don’t realise that something that could be mild for them could be devastating for somebody else’s child.

I think the point is that because it could very easily have been, it's not realistic to think that even people who are experiencing covid symptoms are necessarily going to identify themselves as ill, much less think to test.

GoodJanetBadJanet · 09/07/2022 13:59

@AllThatFancyPaintsAsFair

Yesterday it was said that 1 in 25 have covid whether they know it or not so any plane is going to have a number of covid cases
There's a huge difference between unknowingly having Covid and getting on a plane (circulated air and all that) to knowing full well and getting on anyway.
First is unfortunate and can't be helped, second would be a dickhead move.

Totally agree with everything just said here!

bossyrossy · 09/07/2022 14:06

I tested positive last Sunday, still positive today Saturday, DH tested positive Thursday. Of course we tested, we don’t want to pass this on to friends or family or to strangers, so we will not go out until we test negative. We have had four vaccinations and still caught it. It’s not nice, we both feel groggy with flu like symptoms. We would probably be in hospital if it were not for the vaccines.

Dagnabit · 09/07/2022 14:33

I would still go as enough days will have passed. Hopefully, the rest of your family will avoid it. People are working with the public when they have covid because they can’t afford not to so I wouldn’t be worrying about it, personally.

QueSyrahSyrah · 09/07/2022 14:44

@ArcheryAnnie I'm sorry your DS was ill and hope he's feeling better, but if it was the first few days then he very likely caught it before he went.

In that case he is an 'utter dick' or is he an asymptomatic (at that point) completely unaware and innocent traveller?

Perfectlystill · 09/07/2022 14:50

YABU

Siameasy · 09/07/2022 15:32

Of course you should go. Why would you even be testing any more? There are no legal requirements just “guidance”.

bossyrossy · 09/07/2022 15:39

Siameasy - Of course you should go. Why would you even be testing any more? There are no legal requirements just “guidance”.

Perhaps she’s testing because she is a responsible member of society and thinks of others, not just herself.

QueSyrahSyrah · 09/07/2022 15:41

Once more for the folks at the back since it seems to be the biggest misconception on this thread;

Planes. Don't. Recirculate. Air.

Thanks for coming to my TED talk.
