To go on a plane with covid?

Coursha · 09/07/2022 08:38

I have covid right now and due to fly to Spain in a few days. The rules are that I just need to show my vaccine pass but doesn’t seem to say don’t travel of you have covid. Can this be right? Don’t know if I need to cancel. I tested positive 4 days ago.

God, that really is a twatty thing to do.

I’m quite laid back about the whole learning to live with it, but even I’d draw the line at that

Anothernamechangeplease · 09/07/2022 08:40

I think it would be really unreasonable, yes, sorry.

zafferana · 09/07/2022 08:40

If you tested positive 4 days ago and you're going 'in a few days' then you're quite likely to either be negative by then or to have passed the infectious stage. If you'd just tested positive and were going tomorrow then I'd agree with the PP.

Dailymauifan · 09/07/2022 08:41

She didn't say she was going to do it, she's asking for advice.

MillyMoo1113 · 09/07/2022 08:41

See that's probably why I have covid. Cos I went on a plane and someone was a daft as you. And now I've had to cancel my weekend plans, which is affecting my mental health, and my DD is terrified of getting it as isolating/being at home will massively affect her mental health. And she already has enough issues.

See the big picture and think how many lives you could affect.

QueenoftheNimbleFlyingCat · 09/07/2022 08:41

Isn't the advice to isolate for 5 days and after that you can get on with life? You'll be over that by the time you fly?

Devotedcatslave · 09/07/2022 08:42

How many days is the few days until you are meant to travel? If you are testing negative before you are due to go then I wouldn't see a problem, but if you are still testing positive and likely to be infectious you would be potentially ruining a lot of peoples holidays.

Ponoka7 · 09/07/2022 08:42

You'll be out of the isolation period that we used to have. Omicron can be over in 3/5 days. So I'd go and wear a mask. I say that as someone ECV. The advice is to not travel if you have symptoms. Unless you are coughing, go.

IGotItInTheSales · 09/07/2022 08:42

Just go op.... we are surrounded by people with covid

And you'll be a good few days in by then anyway

zafferana · 09/07/2022 08:43

From the gov.uk website on infectiousness of Covid-19:
How long are you infectious with COVID-19?
Although many people will no longer be infectious to others after 5 days, some people may be infectious to other people for up to 10 days from the start of their infection.

Cookiedough123 · 09/07/2022 08:43

If you tested positive 4 days ago and you're due to fly in a few days you will be fine. I tested positive last Sunday and my tests were negative from Thursday and now I'm fine with a little sniffle in a morning.

TyrianBannister · 09/07/2022 08:43

Whether it’s against the rules or not, it’s a shit move. You’re being unreasonable if you do it.

Dailymauifan · 09/07/2022 08:44

I'm not sure OP, haven't been in this scenario. But it may be okay, you would have passed the isolation period for this country by the time you fly. Go onto Gov. Uk and check the travel requirements for Spain there. Fingers crossed for you.

Emmelina · 09/07/2022 08:44

Planes recirculate air, you will become a close contact of everyone on board.
How many days is ‘a few’? 2? 6? 10?

Rainbowqueeen · 09/07/2022 08:45

How long is a few days? Can you wait until the day before and see if you test negative? That’s what I would do.

Obviously would not go if testing positive

AllThatFancyPaintsAsFair · 09/07/2022 08:46

Yesterday it was said that 1 in 25 have covid whether they know it or not so any plane is going to have a number of covid cases.
The person who has tested and has had it a number of days may well be a less risky person to sit next to than me say who hasn't got any specific symptoms, hasn't needed to test and is in an infectious state

Agaragar · 09/07/2022 08:46

You’ll be well passed 5 days which is the main guidance.

Savingpeoplehuntingthings · 09/07/2022 08:47

I think it's fine. You tested positive 4 days ago and aren't flying for another few days so you'll be well past the 5 day isolation.

littlepeas · 09/07/2022 08:48

I expect there are multiple people on every flight with it at the moment - mostly those who have stopped testing and simply don't know they have it. Most people won't risk a positive test and ruining their holiday unless it is a requirement of the country they are visiting.

It's a bit different if you know you have it, but based on the timescale you give in your OP there is a good chance you'll be negative before you go.

bigbluebus · 09/07/2022 08:48

The guidance is to isolate for 5 days so assuming that 'a few days' takes you over that then you are within the guidance as you are not considered to be infectious. I'm assuming you are not living with someone who may catch covid from you, likely to test positive between now and when you go (assuming they are travelling too)

Quartz2208 · 09/07/2022 08:48

When is the flight - I think when you needed to be tested it was 15 days - I would say now a week is fine so if you are 4 days in and flying in a few days you are potentially one of the safest!

MynameisJune · 09/07/2022 08:49

Just go, there will be more people on the plane with Covid who haven’t even tested.

You don’t have to isolate anymore by law it’s just guidelines.

Don't be ridiculous. You could have caught it from any number of places seeing as we're being told one in twenty five of us have it. Surely you knew going on a plane or travelling literally any where put you at risk of catching it
