To think Tory party is not ready for a non-white PM

While all this talk about Rishi goes on, I just can't see it happening. Too much of the tory party is old english and super duper white

this from an independent headline - The Conservative leadership contest is dominated by white men who've furthered inequality in various departments. The winner will be chosen by a membership who are 71 per cent male, 97 per cent white and 44 per cent aged over 65

"if you think walking into a room where people are partaking of birthday cake is “partying”, then your life is even more boring than mine"

Amazed this line is still being used.

The legislation at the time covered gatherings of more than 2. We were supposed to minimise contacts wherever possible. 30 people plus waiting staff and a photographer fell outside the law in place at the time. It would have been perfectly obvious from the moment he entered the room.

They could have sung happy birthday over a fish pie and the fish pie would be just as irrelevant.

This is where you people are now, isn’t it? You literally cannot process disagreement. It can’t be real, it can’t be genuine. There is only one right way to think.
the bot is you, my friend

We understand that. The point being made us that just breach did not, on any sane interpretation of the word, amount to partying.
if you think it’s a reason not to vote for him, fair enough. There’s no need to distort the facts.

@TullyApplebottom Thats a 100% bot response lol

Notonthestairs · 09/07/2022 16:45

I think you've muddled me with an earlier poster.
I was simply correcting the focus on partying. Parties were never mentioned in the legislation so any definition of them is irrelevant.

there are people on this thread hoping that the electorate is so racist that selecting a non white candidate means the tories will lose.
if racism bothers you, and it should, take a look at your fellow travellers before making assumptions about the Tory party. You could be in for a nasty surprise.

Not sure I understand this post. I was saying that a non-white leader would be less likely to be discriminated against on the basis of race by the wider electorate who are more diverse than by the Conservative Party membership who are very predominantly white and over-65.

Plenty of booze and games occurred at no 10 during LD, whether thats a "party" is subjective but it s not a good look when the very same people, inc almost all the main runners for our next PM, were all telling us otherwise and have to man and woman, defended Boris Johnsons conduct and his lying over this and other issues.

128 fines were issued to staff at Downing street.... yet Boris said "no rules were broken".... give over.

Indeed the Sri Lankan PM has just had his house burnt down and the Japanese ex PM has just been murdered. Scary times.

I think the main issue for Sunak is his wealth as a barrier, it’s unfortunate and isn’t his background but from his wife and her family

I do wonder who pushed the story because he was probably a clear favourite before that

The bigger issue is his incompetence and lies.

Eat out to spread covid.
Flip flopping with tax/nic rises/reductions.
Doing bugger all to reduce inflation.
Throwing money around like confetti (which we're all paying for now).
Deliberately excluding over 3 million people from covid support (whom he didn't think were worthy!) and then lying about why they were excluded!

He wants to sort out the economic mess we're in, but he's the one who was responsible for it happening in the first place.

His skin colour is the least of the reasons he shouldn't be PM!

Video resurfaced of a young Rishi saying he has no working class friends.

Not unusual for another Tory clone but embarrassing for him.
