To reduce the number of showers I have each week

Let's be honest here. During lockdown probably most of us that worked from home rolled out of bed to their laptop and started the work day (in pjs)

I believe my need for showers daily took a nose dive. Don't get me wrong I went old school and did a daily clean with a flannel and yes still brush my teeth twice a day. I was showering twice a week.

Now back into the swing of things, working face to face (twice a week) I find my routine has stayed the same and the need for daily showers has gone. Obviously if I go work out I will do but I'm talking daily no.

What's other people's experience? Has everyone resumed normal life or are there people out there like me who are now content doing a flannel wash instead of a daily shower????

I am waiting for the gross comments but honestly I don't feel worse for it and my water bill has dropped!

It is a bit grim. But then I think a shower is a pleasant experience with beautiful products and fragrances. I don’t know why anyone would deprive themselves.

OakTreex · 07/07/2022 22:57

Shower every day, except on the odd occasion (maybe once a fortnight) when I'm exhausted and skip one/fall asleep on the sofa/don't have time (single mum life)!

Apollonia1 · 07/07/2022 23:03

During lockdown (and with newborn twins) I kept the same routine of showering every morning. I don't see why you wouldn't - a quick shower takes minutes.
I do wash my hair less often though, since I work from home now.

Well if the sky falls down and zombies roam the earth or there’s a tsunami I’ll cope for a couple of days without a shower and deep conditioning my hair. If it goes on more than a couple of weeks I presume I’ll have a scrub in the river in between canvassing zombie riddled towns.

It's quite obvious you know nothing about natural disasters! And there is no need to be facetious - people suffer in natural disasters all the time, you know very well I wasn't talking about the sky falling down or zombies! I never suggested anyone should sit and worry, but the reality is people holiday abroad and you never know what can happen - and a daily shower will be the least of your worries.

Right but so? Once again I eat three times a day but I don’t concern myself with what I would do should I be caught in an earthquake. If there was a natural disaster of course I wouldn’t be standing wailing ‘oh noooo how will I do my skincare routine???!!’ I would get on with it. However, when the biggest disaster I’m likely to face in a day is the outfit my 6 year old chooses for herself, I’ll have a shower. Why would I worry about not being able to shower in the extremely unlikely case I am cast as a family member in The Impossible?

Howabsolutelyfanfuckingtastic · 07/07/2022 23:13

I shower twice a day as i go to the gym 6 evenings a week. I shower first thing in the morning and then after the gym. On Sundays i miss the gym so i only shower once. Although if it's been hot out i will shower again before bed to wash off sweat/suncream. Its personal choice ofcourse, no-one has the right to tell you that you're disgusting for not showering daily.

Howabsolutelyfanfuckingtastic · 07/07/2022 23:14

Just to be clear, i don't wash my hair everytime i shower.

Herani · 07/07/2022 23:20

I think what the UK needs are more arse bidet showers attachments or squeegee bottles to do bits that need to be kept clean throughout the day.
If you aren’t getting sweaty, and freshen up during the day, I don’t see the need to shower everyday.

Spidey66 · 07/07/2022 23:22

I have a shower every day. It's rare I go without.

The only time my showers took a nosedive was last autumn. I'd broken my shoulder and found it difficult to even get in (the showers above the bath) let alone wash properly. My husband had to help me. During that period, I probably showered twice a week, usually when I had a hospital appointment.

Thepeopleversuswork · 07/07/2022 23:29

I have baths not showers and for me its partly a way of relaxing and I'm addicted to them. I've been known to have up to three a day, which I know is wasteful, but I need them.

I literally couldn't imagine going without a bath or shower for 48 hours.

Not commenting on other people's cleanliness or lack thereof but just from the perspective of relaxation and destressing I couldn't do without them.

How much does a warm shower cost, 3 mins long from a combi boiler?

Not everyone's shower runs from the combi boiler. I have an electric shower that heats the water and it costs more than using the combi boiler.

CookPassBabtridge · 07/07/2022 23:36

I shower every day, my hair feels itchy and sweaty otherwise and my body feels, I don't know, odd! I walk a lot for work though and I'm around people every day. In lockdown I still showered every day, I went on walks every night to stop the cabin fever 😆 I love feeling clean.
As long as people don't smell then they clean however much they want.

1000chairs · 07/07/2022 23:47

Whilst at boarding school during the 1970's energy crisis, we shared a measured 5" bath weekly between 3 girls. Pulled straws to see who used the water first and so on. Keep in mind in the dead of winter with no heating in the bathrooms it was pretty grim especially when one was last in line for the scummy bath water and had wash long hair in it too. We all grew to love a strip wash with only 3" of warm water allowed in the bowl as at least we had that sink of water all to ourselves.
Tough times and funnily enough we all survived and there was never a case of BO in our dorm!

At 63, I shower every other day when home and still strip wash inc feet in sink. If going out or to the office then naturally will have a shower beforehand.

Three baths a day 😳 I have a daily shower, maybe two if for example I come on my period suddenly or I get dirty at work but three baths? When do you have the time, how does that fit into your day? I can never find the time for even one bath on a regular working day. But then if I have a bath I do lie in it for ages!

Same here. I think the OP must be child free….

Op is not child free. I have 2 of the darlings thank you. Husband starts work later than me so does the school run. I stop for about 30 mins to get them ready and make the time up later.

People showering every day are a marketers dream. You dont need to shower that much, its just a habit.
I cant smell other people unless they absolutely reek of BO. Certainly cant tell if somebody has showered.

onlythreenow · 08/07/2022 01:47

Why would I worry about not being able to shower in the extremely unlikely case I am cast as a family member in The Impossible?

Once again I never suggested anyone should "worry". My original comment was supposed to be lighthearted, and just pointing out that the people who seem to think the world would end if they don't have a daily shower would not be able to cope if something happened and they couldn't do so!!!! Don't you understand humour in the UK?

Incidentally, some of us live in parts of the world where these things can, and have, happened so we realise that life doesn't always go according to plan.

Fulbe · 08/07/2022 04:20

If you don't need it, great. I think there are hormone variations which can make us need showers more or less at certain times. For a while I lived in a camper van and showered at work if there was one - or strip washed if not. Either worked fine.

I've got kids and that's definitely what happened in this house.

How can your water bill drop?! You must not be from the U.K.?

I have abs always will shower daily, I don’t feel awake or clean without one.

I'm from the UK and my water bill has dropped since we no long use the bath.

greenacrylicpaint · 08/07/2022 06:34

yanbu
was brought up on bath once a week.
went on to showers every other day in my teens and stayed that way (unless I exercise or have been to the beach).
pits&bits are washed every day. and clean tops are worn.
it's fine. I don't smell bad.

Milly2016 · 08/07/2022 06:37

There's no aibu about this one: if it suits you and you don't smell fine.
It wouldn't suit me.

BritInAus · 08/07/2022 06:51

I don't mean to be TMI, but as a gay woman, I really wouldn't want to be intimate with my partner if she wasn't showering daily. A flannel wipe isn't going to wash your bits in the same way as a bath soak / running water in the shower or using a bidet.

TheFuckingDogs · 08/07/2022 06:53

I work in an up close and personal type job and get told I smell lovely quite a lot and spontaneously.
I don’t and never have showered daily. Obviously bits are washed daily but not everything else.
I can understand people jumping in shower once a day as it’s as quick as a bits and pits wash (I only don’t as don’t want my hair to be wet) but obsessive mumsnet showering is going to become a thing of the past as the bills rise this winter
