I know he’s a narcissistic, lying dick but even he must feel some level of embarrassment. My guess is that the slimy knob is looking around for new roles/after dinner speaking and wants time to organise that. It wouldn’t be anything altruistic like actually governing the country temporarily.

Carries Camberwell flat is too small for a family of 4 and they don't even own a car

the80sweregreat · 07/07/2022 18:44

Maybe he'll get a nice electric car ?
Do a deal with Tesla to get one on finance ?

TimBoothseyes · 07/07/2022 19:02

I think he's hanging on in the hope that the Queen goes. That way he'll explain that he "has to stay on as the PM is one of those responsible for planning the state funeral". Then it will be "but I have to stay on until the coronation as that is what is expected of a PM". Then it will be "but we will have to postpone the GE as the country has had a lot of upheaval and to have more would not be in the best interest of the public". Lo and behold it's 2023 and the lump of lard is still there.

I may have overthought that though.😄

The queens funeral is already planned, it has been for years, it just gets updated every now and again.

@Dotjones

how is he a better PM than May & Major…? (Didn’t like either of them but they were more about the job than furthering their own interests!) He’s no better than my puppy at being PM! 😂He craps everywhere and leaves others to clean up the Brexit.

Johnson is an arrogant, self indulgent man who hangs out with Russian secret service people and lies virtually every time he opens his mouth!

This. He’s the worst politician, let alone PM, of my lifetime. He makes Thatcher look good - and she was vile.

Be a bit weird if he just downed tools today and buggered off.

That’s what every PM does when they lose a general election.

He's got papers to shred, computer records to scrub, bodies to bury ...

I think you got it in one there

To put through the things he had planned, to give out honours and make sure he’s in office longer than may.

and obviously to give Carrie time to steam off the wallpaper to take with them.

Perectlyvsummed up. @Not forgetting the Chequers summer parties as well

Happygirl79 · 08/07/2022 16:04

Boris Johnson is still the PM. The press are mis reporting his resignation. He has resigned as leader of the Conservative party but not as prime minister He is still the PM until the party elect another PM. He can enjoy the trappings for as long as it takes unless they change the rules.
Unfortunate but true

He doesn't want to be seen as being in office for less time than Theresa May. He thinks it's his divine right to be in Number 10. Wasn't he the one who said "leave means leave"...? I don't think there's a precedent for his behaviour (other than Trump). Both Cameron and May resigned; he gave a speech, but seemed to neglect to mention the word "resign". I suspect he thinks if he can cling on until the recess is over people will have forgotten... There are some very enjoyable threads in Twitter!

idonthavetimeorhis · 09/07/2022 07:47

I think the question should not be , 'Why Does Boris Johnson Want to Stay?', but rather, 'What Damage May Be Done If He Does Stay?'. Three months is a long time for a country to have as its leader a man who is condemned nationally and internationally as someone who cannot be trusted. Furthermore, his downfall has been dramatic, on the world stage and at home. The drama should end in his exit.

Indeed, in an economic crisis, with another European war waging, and with difficulties still present with respect to the country's relationship with the EU, we need to move quickly away from 'Johnsonism' (bluster and incompetence) to something more sensible and professional. A new 'caretaker' prime minister would show the UK's commitment to end the populist politics that Johnson represented quickly and finally.

The idea that someone who has fallen from grace so totally and personally, should still be in power (even temporarily) means that the UK's government, and by implication, the UK is seen as farcical. I have no doubt that he will have been forced to leave office long before October.

Penguinsaregreat · 09/07/2022 07:54

I can’t wait until he and that witch he is married to fuck off to the far side of fuck.
Preferably to another country.

DowningStreetParty · 09/07/2022 11:23

i couldn’t agree more Idonthavetime but I am worried that with all the crises circling- Ukraine invasion, cost of living and possible civil unrest/national strikes/productivity shutdown due to lack of materials, large proportion of the UK population starving or freezing over this winter, COVID not gone. a crisis or several will crop up and then 1922 or the Queen are not going to swoop in and save us, because any kind of ‘a stable government’, will start to look like the least worst option. He’s banking on that happening.

He’s got to hang on longer than May for his own pride and his pride is clearly everything to him. He couldn’t care less about us, the country. Or his own party’s future, obviously. We need to have stable centrist government AND a strong opposition whoever is in power. Johnson is fucking us up far into the future with every day he hangs on for his own ego and his own future finances’ sake. He must go.
