To not walk the dog?

My DH expects me to walk the dog so he can nap on his lunch break instead. I work afew days a week and the rest my time is spent with dd who is only just a toddler. I could in theory take ddog when dd is napping but she’s not a reliable napper so that could mean poor dog doesn’t get a walk until 5pm or I have to juggle them both in the rain. Aibu to expect DH to sack off the nap and take ddog out?

Can't you leave toddler with DH so if she wakes up from her nap , he deals with it and you walk the dog ?

Sounds like two half hour walks of one each might be a fairer way to go.

So when you are working, does he walk the dog on his lunch break?

and when you’re looking after DD, not doing your paid work, he thinks you should walk the dog?

This depends. On Tuesday dd goes to nursery, I work away from home so he walks dog. I weekends, I usually walk dog when I get home.

Not sure why it's so difficult to walk the toddler and the dog at the same time. An awful lot of us manage multiple children/dogs at the same time.

Alternatively, whoever does the morning dog walk should look after the child during the afternoon dog walk and vice versa. It's not rocket science. And take an Iron supplement.

Arthursmom · 06/07/2022 14:34

We have a dog walker Monday - Friday. If I'm up to it I take them
Both out for an extra walk but usually not. He has an extra walk after work from whoever isn't with the toddler! If toddler sleeps through the night and all else is equal (housework etc) then why is everyone napping?

Itloggedmeoutagain · 06/07/2022 14:34

If he wfh what time do you all get up and what time does he start?
Invest time into training the dog to walk with the buggy and there's your solution, dog gets a walk, child falls asleep, you get fresh air.
Why isn't the dog walked in the morning? It's not fair to leave the walk until 5pm

She walks once a day for a hour. Same as two half hour walks imo.

It really isn't.
Two half hour walks breaks the day up much better than one walk of an hour

CrazyBaubles · 06/07/2022 14:36

How long a walk does your dog need?

Here I walk the dog because I WFH and DH doesn't (plus there are no dc to consider).

I would ignore the nap thing completely - needing and enjoying them is a personal choice and I personally don't think there's anything wrong with them.

If I were you I'd be looking at how things are split in the household overall - working hours, housework, childcare and other tasks (like walking the dog) and make a decision based on that.

It’s not the same though
Walks are mental stimulation for dogs not just exercise.
Naps are great if you have nothing else you need to do so unless it’s medically necessary take the dog out instead

Because we’re all tired. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Cross posted and can see you've answered my first question.
A 1 hour walk should be fine for most dogs.

Lovemusic33 · 06/07/2022 14:38

What’s with all the napping? Do people really nap during the day? Why do you both need a nap? Why are you so tired? Sorry for all the questions, I just don’t know any adults that take a nap half way through the day unless they be a child that keeps them up half the night or they work split shifts/late nights. Maybe the fresh air wali g the dog will wake you up a bit, maybe you should walk together?

DayreeMilk · 06/07/2022 14:40

I noticed your dog is 16 months, which breed?

Yeah. If he had offered to take dd off for her nap then I would have happily walked the dog but he expected me to do it all. I might suggest this.

I’ve read the word nap so much it’s starting to sound weird.

You alternate. And he takes a lunch break.

And yeah, take some iron. (I take iron, no snark).

Yodaisawally · 06/07/2022 14:43

Why are you both napping during the day? That's really not normal.

Dog is five. She’s a staffie. We love the dog. She never goes without.

Apparently some companies are now allowing employees to nap at work.

You didn't answer if this was a one-time request, but it sounds like it might be. If so, you're even more unreasonable.

Feelfreetocallme · 06/07/2022 14:45

Why are people suggesting I take iron? Now I’m just confused. Like I said blood tests with ok.

OP posts:
Feelfreetocallme · 06/07/2022 14:45

No it’s not a one time request

No. He usually takes ddog out during his lunch break and we pay for a dog walker so he gets a break on Friday.

Seriously? He needs a break…. From walking the dog??

Are there any health or mobility issues you’re omitting? If not, then the pair of you are utterly precious. Get a grip. Why are either of you napping in the day?!

Woofins · 06/07/2022 14:49

Ye are both unreasonable! Take it in turns to walk the dog. You could easily do 20 mins before and after work. Get the dog used to walking with the stroller as well. Your husband could watch your toddler on his lunch break while you go out for a walk with the dog either win win situation!

She goes without 2 walks a day. The dog is young and need more mental stimulation.

This whole query is utterly ridiculous. Put the toddler in the pram and ensure the dog gets walked twice a day.

Ffs this must be a wind up surely. 😂 You both sound lazy.
