To not walk the dog?

Feelfreetocallme · 06/07/2022 13:43

My DH expects me to walk the dog so he can nap on his lunch break instead. I work afew days a week and the rest my time is spent with dd who is only just a toddler. I could in theory take ddog when dd is napping but she’s not a reliable napper so that could mean poor dog doesn’t get a walk until 5pm or I have to juggle them both in the rain. Aibu to expect DH to sack off the nap and take ddog out?

Not really the argument op can make when she herself prefers to nap in the day

Yes, I've just realised that she said she naps during the day. So six of one, half a dozen of the other.

I've never known adults to nap during the day unless they're ill.

HairyScaryMonster · 06/07/2022 14:10

If he's wfh can you go for a quick walk when DD should be napping, but if she wakes he has to deal til you get back.

WeeHaggisFace · 06/07/2022 14:11

That's not to say that you can't nap with a dog and baby but that with their setup as it is they can't figure it out.

He should take the dog out because she wants to sleep vs she should take the dog out because he wants to sleep.

They really should just train the dog to walk with a buggy 🤷‍♀️

Suzi888 · 06/07/2022 14:13

Poor dog.

How old are you both and who wanted the dog?

IMO YABU to get a dog when you both want to nap. I don’t know any grown adults that nap in the day. DH is 50 and he goes for a run. I’m 44 and I walk my dog in my break.

Pop dd in baby carrier and take dog out. Husband sounds like a loser anyway so might as will get used to doing it alone.

Wtf

No. He usually takes ddog out during his lunch break and we pay for a dog walker so he gets a break on Friday.

So, is this just a one-time request, then?

Isn't it common for adults to nap during the day in countries like Spain and Japan and China? If whole countries are doing it's not that weird.

I’m not sure they nap as such…. Shops used to shut, but I don’t think they do anymore.

CalistoNoSolo · 06/07/2022 14:24

You both sound like lazy slobs to me. Dogs can very easily be trained to walk nicely by a buggy, but you clearly can't be arsed. I feel sorry for the dog tbh. And why are you not answering the question of who wanted the dog?

oobeedoobee · 06/07/2022 14:25

Why the hell isn't the dog being walked in the morning ?

You're both at home before work in the morning, so one of you should be taking the dog for a walk then, while the other gives DC breakfast etc

Then, if you both really feel the need for a 'nap' during the day, you can BOTH have one ?

Then one of you walks the dog again early evening. Simples.

Feelfreetocallme · 06/07/2022 14:25

We both wanted to dog. I love walking her, I would walk her all day if I could but not with a toddler. He has diabetes but otherwise fine. I have suffered very badly from fatigue in the past but latest bloods were ok (well I got referred for a colonoscopy but I’ve had it and all ok). I guess we’re just both tired. I go to bed early cause I know how tired I get, he stays up.

@WeeHaggisFace Train the dog to do what? Take a lunchtime nap or do an hours housework so both owners can nap? Poor dog.

Speaking generally a cultural mid afternoon nap wouldn't be the time to walk a dog as its heat related? On that basis I'm guessing they aren't talking a traditional siesta.

DistrictCommissioner · 06/07/2022 14:27

So when you are working, does he walk the dog on his lunch break?

and when you’re looking after DD, not doing your paid work, he thinks you should walk the dog?

BoredatHome321 · 06/07/2022 14:28

How old is DD?

WeeHaggisFace · 06/07/2022 14:28

Nannewnannew

No, to walk next to the buggy.

AlbertaAnnie · 06/07/2022 14:28

This is such a bizarre thread! Be grown ups and share your responsibility’s including walking the dog - stop with the naps 😂😂😂

DayreeMilk · 06/07/2022 14:28

The walk is probably your dogs favourite part of the day, sack all the naps and do the right thing for this animal.

vivainsomnia · 06/07/2022 14:30

Is it walked only once a day? It should be twice and you both do one.

We’ve never walked ddog in the mornings. She hates mornings, she’d rather lay in bed with one of us. I was up at 7.30 with dd, DH stayed in bed which i take no issue with. He’s goes to bed later than me.

It's fine to like to take a nap. It's also fine to not want to walk dog with buggy. But the two of you do need to work out how to manage this between you in a way that suits you both as best as can be.

She walks once a day for a hour. Same as two half hour walks imo.
