To ask if it’s likely that Spain will abandon its covid travel rules?

We have an unvaccinated teen who needs to have a clear pcr test before we go. With numbers going up this worries me that he’s going to be positive and we won’t get to go. Wondering whether to swap to Greece or somewhere where there are no restrictions. Hoping that Spain will drop their restrictions but I think they would’ve done so by now if they were going to.

Can I ask why your teen is unvaccinated, was it his personal choice?

Secondly - I think you're worrying inordinately about something which has not happened yet. At all. So if you only need a clear PCR test, why not wait to get that test, and then if he does test positive, well...that's the nature of the times we live in.

Clymene · 04/07/2022 21:38

Unvaccinated. Your choice.

Springandsummerarecoming · 04/07/2022 21:42

Yes it was his choice. I am starting to worry now. I guess what will be, will be but one less worry would be for Spain to drop restrictions.

It’s a child- ffs!!

OP I think it’s unlikely so close to the holidays , but you don’t know he’ll catch covid. Have good insurance

Lots of people locally haven’t vaccinated their teens or children. People are / were worried with a new vaccine. Think the worries worked their way around. Fingers crossed it all works out.

Let's not pretend parents have no influence over their children @OnlyFoolsnMothers

My children are vaccinated against hpv and meningitis and Covid. Because although it's in theory their choice, I educated them.

Mine are vaccinated against everything they are entitled to - except for Covid.

So their/your choice.

DasGirl · 04/07/2022 21:50

I think if they were going to drop the travel rules they would have already OP.
The holiday season has started, in most countries in Europe the school are on holiday already.

And ?

If you're really worried op, swap to Greece or Portugal. I think Spain will follow on soon but maybe not before you travel.

That’s what I was thinking. Just have to cross our fingers. Thank you.

Yes. Not sure it’ll be before August either. Hopefully next year this will be one less stress!

Given the rise in numbers, I think it's far more likely that other countries will introduce travel restrictions than those that have them will reduce them.

YourLittleSecret · 04/07/2022 21:55

Will your travel insurance cover you if he gets covid and you have to cancel? Some insurers will only cover if vaccinated but maybe not all.

Bopahula · 04/07/2022 21:55

Does the test have to be watched by anyone? Or just you confirm you've done one?

If it's the latter then just do one now and save it? And use that as proof. Doesn't work
obviously if it's monitored.

As an aside. Triple check your insurance. I thought I had all singing all dancing cover with staysure. However on page 31, clause 14 (that really obvious place to look). It states that if you have been offered the vaccine but not taken it up (so basically any child over 5!) then you aren't covered for any covid related issues.

I ended up taking out further cover with Tesco who cover regardless of status.

dingit · 04/07/2022 21:55

Just run the test under a tap

PurpleMarie · 04/07/2022 21:56

So you’re more worried about holiday than him getting COVID

And you seem to suggest that only the testing restriction would prevent you traveling if he was positive. So getting other people sick.

Wonderful

Yes, this is true. Perhaps we should just stick with Spain as other countries could easily start introducing restrictions.

Well obviously if he had it and was very I’ll then we wouldn’t go! I am vaccinated and wouldn’t know if I have it as don’t have to test so it’s no different really!

It seems unlikely that Spain will relax anything imminently because the allowance for unvaccinated to enter with pcr is only a very recent change. You could have your son limit his social interactions in the run up to taking the test? Or if he has had covid before, he doesn't need a pcr test and can use the recovery certificate instead

I think we have to go to a test centre just a couple of days before we go.

Yes we were thinking of isolating a week beforehand. Hopefully this would be enough time.

Are you sure a PCR is required? We are just back from Spain and just needed proof of negative rapid antigen test (I.e a LFT performed by a healthcare professional, got it done at the pharmacy). All very straightforward
