To ask if it’s likely that Spain will abandon its covid travel rules?

We have an unvaccinated teen who needs to have a clear pcr test before we go. With numbers going up this worries me that he’s going to be positive and we won’t get to go. Wondering whether to swap to Greece or somewhere where there are no restrictions. Hoping that Spain will drop their restrictions but I think they would’ve done so by now if they were going to.

Are you sure a PCR is required? We are just back from Spain and just needed proof of negative rapid antigen test (I.e a LFT performed by a healthcare professional, got it done at the pharmacy). All very straightforward

Oh really? I think on the gov site it said a pcr or antigen test. I will look again in the morning. Did you have to register the test with the nhs so you had proof?

Oh I didn’t realise an antigen was an lft. This may work.

Let's not pretend parents have no influence over their children @OnlyFoolsnMothers

My children are vaccinated against hpv and meningitis and Covid. Because although it's in theory their choice, I educated them.

And I wouldn’t vaccinate my child for an illness that is relatively mild for them.
and yes I’m 3 jabbed and my children have had all them immunisations- they will not have the covid jab even though the 5year old is able to. Thankfully I don’t have a teenager and by the time my children are old enough the vaccine will have been around for years -BUT I see both arguments and don’t relish the choice for a parent or a teen. Now do stop being so preachy!

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 04/07/2022 22:05

A lat flow still has to be completed by a third party it’s just cheaper and instant

Tolstory · 04/07/2022 22:06

We were meant to be in Spain today on holiday - but the extended family we were joining at the rented villa have come down with Covid. They'd been there a few days - either picked it up en route, or in Spain...

WingBingo · 04/07/2022 22:06

Says on .gov that you can do a lateral flow for Spain.

MrsJaneyLloydFoxe · 04/07/2022 22:06

No you just have to complete the travel health form online prior to travel, which generates a QR code which is scanned after passport control when arriving in Spain. I think I just entered all the details from the certificate given to me at the pharmacy. I also took the printed certificate with me just in case.
Only downside is that it was needed within 24 hours of travel which was rather nerve wracking, as opposed to PCR which I think was 48 hours.

We traveled throughout the last 2 and a bit years. Last year DD had to be tested because the UK was an outlier in not vaccinating under 16s until much later than the rest of Europe. We are in Greece now and there are no travel restrictions. We are in Spain in August and DD is bringing a friend. I made in clear they had to be fully vaccinated of they wanted to come. I think this is one of the pay offs of making a choice about vaccines (and I do believe it is a choice) - there will be restrictions or the extra cost of testing which has to be certified and are expensive to travel.

mum11970 · 04/07/2022 22:11

if you’re not going until August he may well catch it soon. If he does, make sure he gets a pcr test and he’ll be exempt for the next 6 months.

sweetkitty · 04/07/2022 22:12

I’m in Spain right now with unvaccinated teens and had to get them a PCR test before flying an LFT was not allowed. We had to fill in forms on the Spanish health site and these were scanned at the airport prior to being allowed in the country.

The thing is the system is flawed as they only care about your last booster so mine was 6 months ago, I could potentially be positive for covid and flown in unchallenged.

Yeah I see what you mean. I think we will just go for the pcr option when we get there and isolate for a week before we go and hope for the best!

I will - assuming he is showing symptoms. Thank you.

This is my thinking too. How will they know I don’t have it as my booster was a while back too, yet we can still catch it again and pass it around.

Or get them vaccinated now?

Bellisima234 · 04/07/2022 22:16

My teen is fully vaccinated and is in bed now poorly with covid so don’t worry. If he is going to get it it would happen anyway whether vaccinated or not. Just ensure your insurance will cover you in the unlikely event of having to cancel.

There isn’t enough time and he doesn’t want the vaccination.

Fingers crossed you get there with your family OP!

Justgorgeous · 04/07/2022 22:20

you can do an antigen home kit test at home. My son went to Tenerife and did the test at home and got a QR code for the locator form.

Springandsummerarecoming · 04/07/2022 22:20

Thank you. We’ve had a horrible few years and it is very needed. Fingers crossed we make it.

Can you? I don’t get this though as it could be anyones test. He could be positive and I could do one that’s negative and use that one. Don’t they have to be supervised?

Jesus what is up with the judgey fuckers? It's none of your concern whether OP's kids are vaccinated or not. None of your damn business.

We have the same problem. Our case we were going to get her vaccinated but she caught Covid the week before her 12th birthday so couldn’t be vaccinated. I think she can now (it is 12 weeks tomorrow I think) but too late now to get the second one.

Stupidly we listened to the government when they said she didn’t need a PCR as if we had got her one then she would have proof of recovery.

We are going to isolate the week before and hope for the best!
