To ask if it’s likely that Spain will abandon its covid travel rules?

We have an unvaccinated teen who needs to have a clear pcr test before we go. With numbers going up this worries me that he’s going to be positive and we won’t get to go. Wondering whether to swap to Greece or somewhere where there are no restrictions. Hoping that Spain will drop their restrictions but I think they would’ve done so by now if they were going to.

Can you? I don’t get this though as it could be anyones test. He could be positive and I could do one that’s negative and use that one. Don’t they have to be supervised?

This is my understanding too. I’ve ordered Randox ones which you take at home and scan in to receive a certificate

It's a PCR within 72 hrs or antigen (LFT) within 24 hrs. You cannot use NHS tests but many companies offer them relatively cheaply.

Crossing fingers for you!

A lat flow still has to be completed by a third party it’s just cheaper and instant

I entered Spain ibiza last week with unvaccinated dd 16 with a lft through randox done at home.

We did a home lft and it was negative and the scan the test, send it via randox app and got travel certificate within minutes

No need to HCP to administer it

Tbf they didn't ask to see it at the airport

Whitegrenache · 04/07/2022 22:37

Cost around £14 for the lft

This is why I think they should scrap travel restrictions. Would there be anything stopping someone doing a pcr or whatever and getting a positive and then doing it at home the way you’ve said on someone else who is negative?

Just do an antigen test and don't actually swab him. You can get non-supervised ones so it's easy enough.

Do this -

The rules are absolutely mad!

My triple Vacs mate travelled to majorca last week with no testing - she then tested positive first day back at work as she was required to test for work.
So basically spain allowed her to travel
And spread covid due to to her vaccinations but she still spread it anyway as she didn't realise she had it!!

I did a nhs lft on dd which was negative before a did the randox one!

AnyFucker · 04/07/2022 22:54

I don’t think Spain will drop their covid restrictions. They have been one of the consistently strictest all the way through, and that will not change now

Oceanus · 04/07/2022 22:58

I'm in Portugal and I read somewhere Spain was thinking of tightening rules not dropping them, so there you go. If you don't like the rules now, it'll likely get worse, so plan accordingly imho.

Scianel · 04/07/2022 23:05

It's all so daft. DH got covid in Portugal and then came back into the UK and on to France with it (unwittingly, symptoms started not long after getting off the ferry) but as he's boostered he's just waved on his superspready way.

Oceanus · 04/07/2022 23:08

@Scianel 😲Did he know he had it and still went about his business? 😷😱

Scianel · 04/07/2022 23:12

@Oceanus No I did say unwittingly. Luckily we were in a self contained campervan so it wasn't too much of a spreadfest apart from me then obviously getting it too.

Swimbikerunmummy · 04/07/2022 23:17

I’m not fully vaxxed and travelled into Spain on a negative PCR recently. It was very straightforward. Had to have test no more than 72 hours before departure, and then fill in a Spanish health for with results. Then got issued a QR code which was scanned along with everyone else after passport control.

Unvaccinated. Your choice.

Starisnotanumber · 04/07/2022 23:26

New update due on 15th July with regard to testing.
You can get a test from simplytestme.co.uk or 10.00 delivered to your door really easy to do and upload.
That's if things stay the same many of the major countries that cater for summer holidays have dropped all regulations.
Maybe wise maybe not but those are the rules, no test needed to return to UK

stratforduponavon · 04/07/2022 23:28

Maybe not go to Spain if son doesn’t want the vaccine. Choices…..

I missed the unwittingly! I got stuck on the he's just waved on his superspready way! I assumed as an id*ot who can't read he knew and didn't care, apologies! I think we should all be careful to mitigate the risk but we need to carry on! I hope you didn't get too sick from it!

Scianel · 04/07/2022 23:29

Why, when a ten quid test gets you in?

Scianel · 04/07/2022 23:36

@Oceanus just rough and feverish for 24 hours thanks (that was fun during a heatwave) but much better after that. And we were outdoors or in our van so at least not spreading it through a hotel or something.

Clymene · 04/07/2022 23:44

Why are antivaxxers always so melodramatic?

Choosing not to have a Covid vaccine means that travelling is a bit more complicated. It's hardly a surprise

What's with the pearl clutching vax lovers? Get over yourselves. The rules are a farce. An asymptomatic vaxxed covid-carrier gets waved onto planes and spreads covid around, while a non carrier unvaxxed teen is a treated like a biological weapon.
About as much sense as being safe to take your mask off to eat but a biohazard if you sit in the same seat not eating.
Given that at best the vaccine only offers some protection against severity, there would be little point vaxxing anyone where Covid is not severe (ie kids). If the Spanish are worried by their health service being overloaded, it would be more effective to ban fat and old people entry.
Only one way restrictions can be tightened again is to increase testing to prevent spread. Can't wait till all the vaxxed have to start PCR tests again, so much for the vax setting you free.

Hmmmm! I feel like this thread has been highjacked like the one about the male teacher being in a bedroom with 13 y.o. girls!

Great to see someone talking some sense instead of the vax-loving crazies on here! 😄 Going to the Balearics myself at the end of this month so I hope the changes on the 15th someone mentioned previously don't affect this
