This video is a prime example of how attitudes change. It seems we go just go from stupid to stupid all the time.

digg.com/video/this-1967-british-news-report-that-interviewed-drunk-drivers-before-it-became-illegal-is-bonkers

Another example is passive smoking. Obviously stupid and horrible to think we just smoked freely inside, thinking it was fine to breathe in smoke.

Fossil fueled cars will likely be the next as will idling cars outside of schools but I wonder what else we'll be scratching our heads over in future.

Reading misogynist, racist, politically dubious rags like the DM, Express, Daily Star, etc.
At least I hope we evolve to that level.
Most claim they are repulsed by them on MN but every day members provide links to these filth brokers as if they are legitimate articles.

Regular celeb or known woman walking down street in summer is obviously "flashing or showing off her slim/toned/curvy figure"

I also hope publicly sharing your annual income in such a desperate and vulgar manner online becomes obsolete.

Excessive judgement. wry smile

Removing tongue from cheek, though, this thread reminds me of the novel 'The Every' by Dave Eggers. Predicts a near-future world in which (among other things) people are not allowed to own pets because it's 'exploitative', eye tracking software names and shames people if they happen to check out someone's boobs/butt etc, drinks come in digestible membranes to save water/energy (no glasses to wash), no foods are available that aren't absolutely locally sourced, virtual tourism has completely supplanted actual travel, and to minimise their carbon footprints people live and work in the same location and literally Do Not Go Anywhere At All.

Uncomfortably plausible imho, given how many behaviours are judged and stigmatised these days.

I disagree that future generations will be horrified about allowing access to phones for young children. In 30/40 years the children that now have access will be the parents for whom it's completely normal. It wouldn't surprise me if it becomes common to microchip children to allow a tracking device.

If you have Netflix I recommend season 4, episode 2 of Black Mirror. It's a fictional scenario of a woman deciding to give her child a microchip of sorts. It's really interesting!

Castrating children
The erosion of women’s rights
Men competing in women’s sports and invading their spaces

This.

Also add in smoking/vaping, alcohol, "fast" (mostly fried) food, self-mutilation/cosmetic "enhancers", banning abortion in quite a big bit of "the free world" and lack of choice about when/where you want to die.

I'd quite like to choose when I depart this decrepit planet...without it being illegal.

Onlyforcake · 29/06/2022 13:16

Unfortunately looking at Kruger and the Conservative agenda in the future women will be reduced ro breeding ivestock. The future isn't going to see an improvement from looking at stuff

Summerwetordry · 29/06/2022 13:17

Vegan fat food. Making pretend meat with multiple additives, eating margarine, etc. Only eating fresh, wholesome fruit and veg, in season and grown locally will be acceptable.

Summerwetordry · 29/06/2022 13:17

Fast food

Onlyforcake · 29/06/2022 13:17

*so all those things like women's bodily autonomy will be seen as a reckless past by the future generations that have it pushed on them.

NamelessNancy · 29/06/2022 13:17

Museums displaying human remains (eg mummies). I find it so weird and disrespectful. Might just be me though!

Springblossom2022 · 29/06/2022 13:21

Eating meat. I've always been a meat eater but visited a sanctuary whilst on holiday (in the UK) and saw newly rescued ex-battery hens, pigs that had been saved from slaughter living their best lives and hundreds of cows saved from the intensive farming industry. I've never been under any illusion about where my food comes from, but this opened my eyes to see how barbaric the mass production and slaughter of animals actually is. As someone who would (and has) saved hedgehogs, pigeons and plenty of other injured or sick animals it's really made me think about why I think it okay to eat meat, but would be horrified if someone killed a hedgehog or dog or rabbit and served it to me. I'm aiming to slowly go vegan, hoping that in a years time I'll be fully vegan. It's certainly going to be difficult but I want to start making myself accountable for the choices I make. I also recognise that being vegan isn't actually accessible to some people for various reasons and don't want to push it on anyone. But I think in a few decades time it will be the norm, particularly with all the research and campaigning going on.

All people will not stop these things in 30-40 years.

Some of these responses are like when you watch an old sci-fi film that had people in The Future (1999) wearing silver jumpsuits and surviving on nutrition pills whilst driving flying cars Smile

I think human nature doesn't change that much. We aren't moving towards some utopia. And if you've read any science fiction, you'll be wary of the idea of an apparent utopia anyway.

Trans ideology is based on lies and obfuscation and will ultimately butt up against reality. Unfortunately, it has money behind it and will cause a lot of harm in the meantime, mainly to women and children. But I think that in the end, it's a grift, and you can only run a grift for so long.

I agree with everything you've wrote.

Glitterspy · 29/06/2022 13:29

Vaping

Allowing small children to freely surf Netflix/YouTube/Fortnite etc

I expect suncream as we now have it, to be considered very harmful (not just for sealife and waterways when swimming) for human use.
Aerosols and all spray skincare and medicinal products to be banned also.

I wonder if there will be a time when bras will be completely changed in design or eradicated. Now that, I'd like.

Or breeding dogs by breed type altogether.

I think there will be age restrictions on social media due to the discovery of the risks to mental health

BadLad · 29/06/2022 13:45

No kinky sex, no pets, no zoos, no flying, no private cars, no alcohol, no smoking, no gambling, no meat, no sugar, no tattoos, no stuff, no buying anything, no phones, no WiFi, no boxing, no wrestling, no rugby. We won't need to allow euthanasia - people will be topping themselves from boredom long before they reach old age.

Snuffy28 · 29/06/2022 13:45

Human nature being what it is, I can't see alcohol disappearing any time soon. Or religion, unfortunately.

There may be lots of things that become obsolete or socially unacceptable, but there may also be a whole host of other problems that we have no idea about.

If you go back 40 years, the internet didn't exist, and look at us now.

Somewhat misses the point.

The global cost of fashion in terms of raw materials consumption, exploitation low paid of overseas workers, environmental CO2 emissions to produce an transport goods, fashion houses basically sticking labels on cheap products and making a fortune at the expense of everything else.
Hopefully fast and daft fashion will cease to exist.
As for big eyebrows and big lips these will be as amusing and bewildering to understand as whale bone corsets and forced tiny waists of previous fashion eras.

Owning and driving private cars (including cars as a work perk)

Two women a week murdered by partners/ex-partners/sons

Not much meat on a hedgehog. But comes with its own tooth picks.
