Another example is passive smoking. Obviously stupid and horrible to think we just smoked freely inside, thinking it was fine to breathe in smoke.

Fossil fueled cars will likely be the next as will idling cars outside of schools but I wonder what else we'll be scratching our heads over in future.

Definitely agree with eating meat and smoking. But if things continue on the current trajectory:
Anything relating to babies that doesn't involve them being kept in a sterile bubble for the first 12 months.
Anything relating to children that doesn't involve putting their wishes front and centre of everything, whether you're their parent or not.
Anything relating to teens that doesn't afford them full rights to do whatever they please facilitated by increasingly servile parents.

I really hope cosmetic ‘enhancements’ will go… injecting/inserting poison/foreign bodies into your own healthy body in the name of beauty blows my mind (and looks pretty shit) The fact that people feel the need to do this to make themselves feel better doesn’t say good things about our society. Alcohol is too bound up in our and other cultures to go the way of smoking I think.

That being said, if alcohol were newly discovered today, it would be treated as a highly controlled and probably illegal drug.

I would hope surrogacy would be frowned on, and ideally illegal. I think it’s human trafficking, and awful to take a baby from its mother.

But given how backwards the world is going on women’s rights, I’m not holding out much hope.

But it was Bertolt Brecht (I think) who said that in order to change the world, we needed to be able to imagine the kind of world we wanted.

OTOH, we tend to think that all change is progress and that things will always get better. I’m increasingly not so sure …
