to say Niles was pathetic and Daphne was wrong to marry him

For some reason Niles seems to be held in great affection - but why?

He was so weak-willed with Maris - for someone who claims to be an expert in human behaviour, it took him years and years to face up to the obvious.

The way he went around smelling Daphne's hair secretly - how creepy would that be?? And what kind of man dumps his fiancee on their wedding day? Not to mention, he simply can't handle pressure - rumour has it, he even choked during his spelling bee.

Daphne should have stayed with Donny.

Not sure what autocorrect was thinking there changing Daphne to Daphnia!

Not sure anyone will care, but without googling I can tell you that "Daphnia" are water fleas, used as fish food by aquarium owners.

PrincessFiorimonde · 25/06/2022 23:50

And actually I don't remember anything about Niles and a spelling bee.

Blinky21 · 25/06/2022 23:52

Fraiser is troubling and quite stalkerish in some episodes, I don't mind Niles

IdisagreeMrHochhauser · 25/06/2022 23:53

Has this suddenly come up on catch up or most watched on Netflix or something?!

hellswelshy · 25/06/2022 23:56

Yabu. Niles was loveable and adored Daphne so! Do agree her character changed a bit after they got together though. Can't put my finger on it but she was less... quirky.

LargeDeviation · 25/06/2022 23:56

I hope Mel and Cam Winston were eventually introduced to each other. Martin definitely should have ended up with Cam's mother.

Cam totally outwitted Frasier with his American flag stunt - and could get into the exclusive spa on merit instead of sneaking in like Frasier and Niles. Although I was never sure what to think about his Behemoth XL...

Niles and Roz would never have worked. She would get bored in weeks.

I never did think Donny and Daphne were a good fit. Saul Rubinek was good in the role, but he just didn't seem Daphne's type.

CaptainThe95thRifles · 25/06/2022 23:58

Niles is pathetic, but it is part of his charm. Frasier's attitude to women is way more concerning! They're both (all, in fact) wonderfully flawed and human in all sorts of ways.

MandyMotherOfBrian · 25/06/2022 23:59

PrincessFiorimonde · 25/06/2022 23:36

At first I found Daphne a bit annoying (and in the early days I thought the actress was an American putting on a fake English accent, so that just shows what I know) and couldn't see why urbane Niles was taken with her. But the idea of their relationship grew on me. I never thought Daphne was suited to Donny, though.

And her oaf of a brother, Simon, who for some reason had a Cockney accent (played by an Australian 😁)

CaptainThe95thRifles · 25/06/2022 23:59

I like the idea of Mel and Cam though. Cam's flag stunt was brilliant.

PrincessFiorimonde · 25/06/2022 23:59

I loved Roz (Ros?) I think she would have got together with Marty if he were 20 years younger.

SnowWhitesSM · 26/06/2022 00:01

Inwanted Roz and the bin man to stay together

LargeDeviation · 26/06/2022 00:01

@CaptainThe95thRifles Or even better - how about Cam and Lilith!

OP posts:
GilChesterton · 26/06/2022 00:04

Lilith is great - she's funny and an utter knockout, so it becomes a bit odd that Frasier doesn't try to get back with her.

Rosewaterblossom · 26/06/2022 00:05

It seems weird to think mostly half the seasons they weren't together and the other half they were. Surprised the writers got them together sooner rather than right on the last season or 2 for a happy ending.

Didn't like Martins partner at the end, Ronnie. I mean nice character but far fetched for Martin.

LetitiaLeghorn · 26/06/2022 00:09

I loved Niles.
I loved Daphne. ( story of brother cutting off toe for toe fairy. 😂😂😂😂)
I did not love Niles and Dahpne. She became horrible and him insufferable.

Nothing could beat Frasier and Nanny G, though. Hop, hop, hoppity hop..... 😂🤣😂🤣

DeadButDelicious · 26/06/2022 00:10

I am very much Team Niles and Daphne I'm afraid. I loved them together. I also think Roz and Frasier should have ended up together, in fact I thought they were headed that way when Roz lost it about him and Julia.

I totally agree about Daphne's accent though, it's a lot of things but a Manchester accent it is not.

CaptainThe95thRifles · 26/06/2022 00:10

I can't see Lilith with Cam, I think she'd be wary of him being too Frasier 2.0!

I didn't like Ronnie much, either.

LargeDeviation · 26/06/2022 00:11

@GilChesterton In fact, the way Niles behaved with Lilith is another black mark against him.

Firstly, so insecure about Lilith snickering about Maris' grandiloquent pomposity in her wedding vows. And then, sleeping with his brother's ex-wife!

But, but, they got the platinum bins! 😂

Never underestimate the allure of a broken man to an emotional vampire.

Deadringer · 26/06/2022 00:16

I love Niles, all that repressed passion.😍Donnie was awful, as was Mel. Roz and Frasiar had great chemistry but I am glad they didn't end up together, she deserved better.

One of the best episodes.

Staffy1 · 26/06/2022 00:24

Niles was a brilliant character. I love the passion “you take that back” was said with when Frasier accused him of getting more like his father every day.

LargeDeviation · 26/06/2022 00:24

Frasier could also make bad decisions because of his ego and insecurities - Faye and Cassandra? Claire and Lana? Samantha and Lilith (though that one's a bit unfair maybe, as it was such a surprise...) But overall he seemed more in control than Niles.

I must admit, Charlotte was a bit of a strange match for him. I think Claire was ideal and he was a fool to break up with her.
