Husband shoved the bench out we were sitting on at a restaurant

I said that's a man move
As my son and
I had climbed in without moving it.
He said 'I have a sore knee you know'...... I said 'that's because you're
old'.. He 'replied at least I don't look old'

I got up and left restaurant at this point and went home, leaving him and his parents sitting there..

He said I had shouldn't have made people feel awkward.

I explained that he made a very personal comment and i was not going to sit there and put up with it. He said his comment was the same thing as my comment;
I said 'no, as his comment was particularly personal.. shall we ask FB? , he said' don't because everyone already thinks you are mad enough..'

What are peoples thoughts on this?

Don't be surprised if he ends up leaving you, op.

🙄

Ohhelpicantthinkofaname · 26/06/2022 09:24

You honestly sound like a stroppy 12 year old OP.

winding people up and then having a strop when they retaliate. Jeez.

Assistanttotheregionalmanager · 26/06/2022 09:26

Madness. If you’re that highly strung that something like that would bother you then there must be a huge back story.

ClocksGoingBackwards · 26/06/2022 09:28

Sorry OP, this one is on you. Hopefully you’ve apologised and been forgiven by now.

frazzledasarock · 26/06/2022 08:31

why didn’t he say I need to move this bench out can you stand up for a sec?

he started it by shoving out a bench you and your son were sitting on already.

Yes, entirely the man’s fault. This is mumsnet.

bloodyplanes · 26/06/2022 09:47

You started the rudeness and couldn't handle it when you got it back!

Geneviev · 26/06/2022 11:26

Oh my god lol. Were you wine drunk??

Some people will always find a way to make it the man's fault 🙄

If he had said that - the OP would still have said "why we both managed it" and it would have went the exact same way

If he asked her to stand up, she probably would've accused him of calling her fat or something 😂

Lou98 · 26/06/2022 11:57

@worraliberty that's true! Would have said he should be strong enough to move it with them on it! Honestly, some men can't win on here 😂

Lanalou76 · 25/06/2022 22:56

Thanks for the feedback... Just a bit iver sensitve at the moment I think.

Nah, don't make excuses.

You started it by calling him old, then got in a huff when he responded in kind.

Don't dish it out if you can't take it.

frazzledasarock · 26/06/2022 12:13

expecting someone who wants to move a bench someone is sitting on already to warn those sitting on the bench, isn’t making excuses to make it the man’s fault.

and it may have ended the same way or maybe not. The H didn’t ask he shoved the bench OP was pissy about it her H was rude in return.

the H started it. I wouldn’t expect my DH to behave like that. He wouldn’t behave like that.

FlorianImogen · 26/06/2022 12:17

You did say to him first, that's because you're old.

FlorianImogen · 26/06/2022 12:18

Littleraindrop15 · 25/06/2022 22:48

why dish if you can't take

Exactly

SoupDragon · 26/06/2022 12:28

the H started it.

or the op started it by not leaving enough room for her DH to get on the bench 🤷🏻‍♀️ Men tend to be bigger plus she knows he has a bad knee.

I would be so embarrassed if I had let myself down in front of other people in public like that.

@worraliberty 🤣🤣 I think you've got the OP sussed perfectly

clpsmum · 26/06/2022 12:34

@Ohhelpicantthinkofaname agree although if my 13yr old walked out in a strip over one remark in front of family they'd be consequences!!

Vikinga · 26/06/2022 12:37

You were rude to him. Deliberately goading him and then you spoiled it for everyone by walking out. Apologise to him and the family.

GoldPig · 26/06/2022 12:43

I don’t understand the bit about shoving the bench out. Sounds like a really aggressive move that would’ve narked me (and if your knee is playing up not that sensible).

the tit for tat snarking could’ve been petty banter but sounds like it escalated fast because neither of you had a sense of humour about it.

walking out didn’t win you any sympathy
