To complain about cleaner walking in on me naked

Staying in a chain hotel, Western Europe, 8am. I'm up but also naked in bed, having a coffee. Someone knocks on the door, I ignore it, not sure if it's my door or someone else's. Then the door opens and a man calls out something, I dive under my sheets and I think I shouted out 'there's someone in here', so the door closes. I throw some clothes on, go in the corridor and say to the guy that check out is 11, and also angrily 'don't come in my room, what the hell!' I didn't have a 'do not disturb ' sign on my door, but then I wouldn't expect to have to use it if I'm checking out before 11. AIBU to complain?

Because some guests leave early and the earlier cleaners can start, the less rushed they are.

Check out may not be until 11am, but someone may leave at 7am, so it makes sense for the cleaners to check the rooms without DND cards out, just to see if they can get a head start.

And in the meantime wake guest up that are still sleeping because check out is not until 11am. Not using the DND sign because they don't expect to be woken up at 8am.

But that list is out of date as soon as it's printed! You could print a list, hand it out, and five minutes later, another ten guests could have checked out.

If you don't want to be disturbed, you need to use the DND sign.

It's a list to be going on with rather than going round waking people up. Maybe that's why they do it to get guests moving so they can get on with the cleaning which is very rude.

That's literally the entire point of it being there, lol.

Check out is at 11 so you shouldn't have to use a sign, cleaners should not be knocking your door before 11am so you shouldn't have to use that sign. The signs should only have to be used if you want to have a nap in the day. It is rude for cleaners going round knocking doors at 8am to check if they have left or not.

If I am honest I would never stay in a hotel that thinks it is OK to knock on a guest door before check out to check if they have left. I would be annoyed if I was checking out that day and had a knock at 8am I would feel I am being rushed to get out.

As has been explained hundreds of times, that's not how it works.

Maybe go and stay in a private rental if you can't cope with DND cards.

A list of those who've checked out is fine in some hotels but now so many do full pre-payment there's often no need to go to reception on departure unless you've got extras to pay for, so they don't know who's gone. If they waited until check-out time they'd then have a rush to clean rooms before people start arriving looking for early check in.

I have the DND sign on (and the deadlock if there is one) the whole time I'm in a hotel room, otherwise I expect to be disturbed.

So I'm due to vacate my room that morning at 11 am,plenty of time for me to have a nice relaxing morning before leaving. However I have to remember to put my sign up on the door in case it is an unprofessional hotel who thinks it is OK to go round knocking doors before check out time so that they make make a start on my room instead of the ones that they know have already been vacted. Understand there could potentially be no guest that have left before check out time but that's tough luck, check out is at 11am and guest have paid until 11am.

Then put the card out 🙄

I would much rather stay in a professional hotel that do not hassle their guest before check out time with or without a card. I will use the card if I want to have a nap in the day, that's the only reason the cards should have to be used.

Yep, I've never had housekeeping come on the day that I've been due to check out.

I've been for breakfast and not left a sign on the door (because there's no one to disturb, and I obviously don't need the room tidied given it will be changed over when I leave), and no one's been in. Because I've still been a guest until the departure time.

Are the rest of you all just staying in really crap hotels?

As for any other day, agreed, I would use a DND sign. But the last day is different.

I have stayed in hotels many times and I have never had cleaners knocking on the door way before checkout time and I've never used the DND sign.
I guess you and I just stay in better class hotels where they respect their guest privacy😁
