Weekend away planned fri-sun. Special event.
Short flight.
Covid positive since Sunday. Symptoms started Saturday.
Over the worst of the symptoms (not coughing or sneezing)
Likely still testing positive on day of travel but it will be 5 full days since symptoms started.
No test required for destination.
WWYD?

Why are people asymptomatic spread into the argument? Whether covid or flu or anything else?
The whole point is people are KNOWINGLY spreading this due to sheer selfishness and lack of morals.

Brefugee · 24/06/2022 11:47

people want to be indignant about something i guess?

My guess is that OPs infectiousness is reduced since the first +ve was a while ago? I don't know. I just think that if you're going to test, then you are already thinking about what to do? so why ask? If you are going to get the plane anyway, why test?

JesusSufferingFuck22 · 24/06/2022 11:47

It'd be selfish to go. Your special event could turn into a nightmare for others attending or on the same flight, because you transmitted Covid.

It sucks to miss out on things you are looking forward to but you're an adult. You'll get over it.

Travelling/not isolating with Covid for a non essential event is against guidelines(in Scotland anyway.) I know it's not law anymore but come on......do the right thing.

WhereIsVillanelleWhenNeeded · 24/06/2022 11:48

Those saying stupid for not having travel insurance - it's a very short domestic flight to a family event which wasn't expensive so I can take the hit.

You have your phone/bag stolen, get ill, have an accident or worst case scenario, repatriation, I’d rather spend a few quid on insurance than take that hit.

Onthedowns · 24/06/2022 11:48

SellFridges · 24/06/2022 07:50

I had covid a couple of weeks ago and the insurance I had for an event was in line with government guidelines. Therefore I went, because it’s not my place to add additional rules.

I wondered this and how insurance would dictate as no isolation rules do insurance companies just not pay out now if you decide not to go

catfunk · 24/06/2022 11:49

Those asking why I test - I don't regularly but DH Has a heart cond so is CEV. So I did when I got symptoms knowing I'd been in contact with someone who had it so I could try to be cautious around him.
Incidentally he caught it too and is ok.

Domestic? It's no different for any of those things to taking a train

PurpleDaisies · 24/06/2022 11:50

By perpetuating the disproportionate response I mean this, unnecessary testing, calling for return of lockdowns. Accusations of killing grannies

To be fair, it’s only a very hard core few who accuse anyone of killing grannies etc. That’s probably balanced out by the anti vax total covid deniers on the other side.

It’s been a very, very long time since I’ve heard anyone seriously call for a lock down. Return of compulsory masks, proper ventilation and testing type measures but not a lockdown.

ApplesandBunions · 24/06/2022 11:51

The number of people claiming to be shocked that anyone in OPs situation would fly is in itself quite surprising.

SnappingAtHeels · 24/06/2022 11:52

If you DH is CEV then you must understand how stressful covid has been for CEV people. Yet you are happy to risk the wellbeing of others? I find that a bit hard to understand.

I thought it was abroad, my error.

No I'm not willing to take the risk, you've just made that up.

I know Grin

But remember on MN that letting your child eat a grape out of the packet before it’s been paid for is theft and if you have more than a sniff of sherry at every Christmas you’re a raging alcoholic, so standards of morality are somewhat different to real life.

Topgub · 24/06/2022 11:55

@PurpleDaisies

Oh well.

I think we should only be testing in hospitals and even then only if symptomatic

General public randomly doing lfts is helping no one

ApplesandBunions · 24/06/2022 11:55

TheKeatingFive · 24/06/2022 11:37

I wonder if you'd be quite as keen if you end up appearing in the Daily Mail as someone who deliberately infected others

Why would she end up in the DM when she's not breaking any laws or guidelines?

Don't try and interrupt an angry self righteous batshit covid wank with logic.

PurpleDaisies · 24/06/2022 11:57

Because all vulnerable people are in hospitals. Good to know.

i’ll tell my friend having chemo.

Topgub · 24/06/2022 12:02

@PurpleDaisies

Tell your friend having chemo what?

That we've destroyed the nhs and wasted billions and ended up with the same death rate we would have had anyway?

If your friend is managing to completely shield still to protect themselves thats great.

But routine testing of the whole population with no plans to act on it is pointless.

GoldenSongbird · 24/06/2022 12:03

Were you under the misconception that the DM only lifted law-breaking threads from MN? 🙄
They lift threads from here if they think they're goady, divisive or funny. This thread would fit perfectly with their current slew of articles about travel chaos, cancelled flights.

Lol. It's just interesting though, how much people can still be in bubbles over covid views. You don't have to agree with a behaviour to understand that it exists, and it's naive to conflate the two.

Although saying that, some of them will be full of shit anyway, and would do exactly what OP has if they were in her shoes. The easiest sacrifices are always the ones you don't have to make yourself.

SnappingAtHeels · 24/06/2022 12:15

How am I making it up? You are thinking about travelling on a plane with covid. That is presenting a risk to others surely?

catfunk · 24/06/2022 12:18

@SnappingAtHeels you said 'yet you are willing to take the risk'
I wasn't, I didn't say I was going to take the risk. My post was wondering what others would do.

Fair play to you op for not going
Not always easy to do what you think is the right thing
Id have done same as you since still poorly

dottydoglover · 24/06/2022 13:11

Covid is a bad cold now I would most definitely go ! There will be others in flight harbouring symptoms that no nothing about them. It's up to people on flight to wear masks and sanitise.

I've had Covid this week and it most definitely wasn't a bad cold. I mean I haven't been in mortal danger but I've definitely never been this ill with a cold.

TwilightSkies · 24/06/2022 13:26

I’m the same. Day 5 and I’ve been so sick. I’m 36 with no health problems and I’ve felt like utter shit.
This new strain is more severe but selfish twats won’t care until they or one of their loved ones gets it and is completely floored (or worse).
