Weekend away planned fri-sun. Special event.
Short flight.
Covid positive since Sunday. Symptoms started Saturday.
Over the worst of the symptoms (not coughing or sneezing)
Likely still testing positive on day of travel but it will be 5 full days since symptoms started.
No test required for destination.
WWYD?

Of course you should go - there is no reason not to. My only question is why you bothered to do a test in the first place. Covid is endemic, it's a mild illness, and we are all just getting on with our lives as normal.

Exactly this. Some people I know are still obsessively testing every time they get so much as a minor sniffle. I don’t understand it. Time to return to normality, and if you feel unwell, just use your common sense as to what you should and shouldn’t do (as you would have before covid).

PatientlyWaiting21 · 24/06/2022 10:35

I would go!

Exactly

PurpleDaisies · 24/06/2022 10:36

Why is it always “obsessively testing”? Why is g it “responsibly testing” when they get covid symptoms?
If you’ve got vulnerable friends or relatives, it’s a pretty sensible thing to do. Who does it harm to do a test?

A test is quite helpful in using your common sense about who to see and how you see them.

Agree with purple.
i am at increased risk from Covid. I have a MIl who is nearly 87, and I go to an activity where most of the people there are over 70. My DH is in the emergency services.
If any of us feel unwell we test.

Topgub · 24/06/2022 10:48

@PurpleDaisies

Unnecessary testing has a few negative impacts.

Most of all on the environment

BiddyPop · 24/06/2022 10:49

Almost everyone I know who has travelled recently has come down with covid - almost no masks being worn on flights and lots of coughing and spluttering. Includes a number who are vulnerable and had avoided it for over 2 years.

Rules here (IE) are 7 days isolation on positive test, 3 more days of masks for shopping etc, and then free to go back to normal.

So I wouldn't go, special event or not.

BiddyPop · 24/06/2022 10:52

And that is also coming from me (also vulnerable) having caught it either from food shopping or commute to work or office (no obvious place but I haven't been anywhere else), and my mask wearing days only finished yesterday so I am ok to go on Cub Camp today but I would have called on another leader or had to cancel altogether for Cubs if I was still under those requirements.

We’ve travelled a lot this year, as have all my friends and family. Us, and no one we know, have come down with covid afterwards

I think if you’re vulnerable and aware that covid poses a risk to you then you’re just as responsible for your own health than people travelling for their own reasons

What negative impacts are you thinking of? What constitutes “unnecessary testing”? I can only speak for myself but the benefits of knowing my mild cold is actually covid outweighs the negative impacts.

People are obviously free to make their own judgements now. I think there are quite a lot quietly testing before seeing vulnerable people.

narkyspirit · 24/06/2022 10:59

Friend of mine was at the Isle of Wight festival last weekend, this week Covid positive!

Topgub · 24/06/2022 11:04

@PurpleDaisies

I'm thinking of those who are not at risk testing with no real reason.

It just perpetuates the disproportionate response.

Especially as they're not particularly accurate.

And are bad for the environment

User3568975431146 · 24/06/2022 11:05

Absolutely not! If you're testing positive you go nowhere. That's why it's spreading at a rate of knots

That’s too vague for me. What do you actually mean by this?

I’m not at risk. I’m testing for the benefit of others when I’m doing it.

Topgub · 24/06/2022 11:10

@PurpleDaisies

I think that's what people like to tell themselves

I’m not sure if you’ve aimed this at me personally but I’m sure about my motives and they’re definitely not anything to do with me.
I’ve had covid twice and all a test will tell me is whether I have it again.
Knowing I’ve got it means I can choose not to pass it on to someone who is likely to have a rough time.

You still haven’t clarified what perpetuating these disproportionate response means in real life.

Cervinia · 24/06/2022 11:16

Sorry, but it's people like this that gave DD Covid on her return flight last Saturday, that's one more NHS HCP down until she tests clear.

Unforgiveable.

No insurance? - no words.

Topgub · 24/06/2022 11:16

@PurpleDaisies

It might tell you, it might not. You could test negative and still have it and vice versa

At the moment, it doesn't mean anything irl.

Hopefully it stays that way.

Do you test yourself for flu before you go anywhere?

Buythebag · 24/06/2022 11:16

Depends whether you prioritise yourself or others.

Oh give over. We don't need to test any more because it's really not a "thing" any more. We have a vaccine, people aren't dying of covid any more than they are likely to die from catching the flu.

Just go OP- you aren't "breaking any rules" 🙄 - don't ask for permission from the batshittery that is MN when it comes to covid.

Bunch of self-righteous drama queens trying to drag it out as long as possible.

TheKeatingFive · 24/06/2022 11:18

No insurance? - no words.

Leaving aside the more general risks of not having insurance, what do you think difference it would make to this situation when there's no guidance/legal requirement to isolate as she's past the 5 days?

TwilightSkies · 24/06/2022 11:18

Time to return to normality

Yes, as we head into another wave. Good luck with that.

Topgub · 24/06/2022 11:19

What do you think this wave will bring ?
