Tories hit new low

The Tories are planning to introduce a Bill of Rights which limits and removes human rights. If there was ever any moral high ground for the UK to tell other countries how to manage their affairs, this ends that. How dare the world expect us to honour the basic human rights of people?

There is a theme that runs through most of these discussions.

All politicians are evil if they are British.
All politicians are angels if they are not British.

If we let the politicians we voted for rule us we will became a nation of Nazis by Tuesday.

If that is correct then you must be the worst voters in history and maybe deserve to be oppressed.

Then again if you're right the solution is clear. All good and decent people should claim asylum in Europe.

They will take you as they are all good people every single one of them and you will live a happy and productive life without a care in the world. The sun is brighter in Europe and the grass is greener and no one is poor or downtrodden (well no one who matters)

Abandon those left behind here to their fate. Without Europe to guide them they will fade away I'm sure.

(like rocks do in the summer sun)

Nope. That’s your made up stuff from your imagination.

Meh. I don't see that theme. If there is one it seems to be distrust in our current government.

Personally I think there are a number of sensible people with integrity working as MPs scattered across all parties. I just don't see many of those faces in the Cabinet.

But by all means reduce everything to the patriots v the rebels.

Re: the bill of rights bill (!) - I suspect it just adds more opportunities for lawyers. It simplifies nothing, just adds an extra fuzzy layer ripe for litigation. But they know that because that's what the Government want. Wedge politics.

I might have a bit more faith in their ideas if they were prepared to listen to those currently working in the justice system (court staff, police, barristers & prison staff). I'd vote for that.

I predicted this would happen way back in 2016. Brexit voters were so naive.

I don't think they were, I think this is exactly the direction of travel they wanted. Human rights acts ripped up to enable mass deportations.

Oddly, absolutely nobody has said that at all. I am fairly confident that the majority of people do not think Putin, Kim Jong-Un, and Donald Trump are angels. Although they do disturbingly share some common ground with certain Tories.

I don't see that (or the rest of your post) on this thread, or elsewhere. Nothing like it.

prettybird · 22/06/2022 23:22

I suppose it could be said that I'm not a "patriot" - at least, not in the Union flag waving way of some of the Brexiters - in that I don't want the Union Flag to represent me any more (ironically in 1979 I did, but I couldn't vote Confused) I don't go as far as to call it the Butcher's Apron - but it no longer means anything to me and if anything I find it irritating that the English conflate it as "their" flag.

We'll be generous though - you can keep the Saltire in the Union flag for FUKD (the Formerly United Kingdom and its Dependencies) in memory of the remnant of the Empire that finally managed to get away Wink

I am however extremely proud of my country Grin 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

We lived in TH when Lutfur Rahman carried out his fraud. It was appalling.

Having to show photo ID for voting is a very good idea.

This argument makes no sense. That electoral fraud was proven and dealt with.

Introducing photo id is not intended to tackle voter fraud, it is intended to disenfranchise the young, the poor, the homeless.

The government is cynically exploiting a low level of crime to attack democracy. You are falling for something straight out of the facist handbook.

carefullycourageous · 23/06/2022 06:29

I wish I could edit my typos! Fascist not facist.

@Notonthestairs I agree that there are decent people in Parliament. Just none perhaps apart from Ben Wallace in the cabinet.

The repeal of the Human Rights Act or its non-application to certain things I could support, for example it has been used to enable access to pornography with all the harm that brings. This is not what the Tories are planning though.
