Tories hit new low

Jalisco · 22/06/2022 07:19

The Tories are planning to introduce a Bill of Rights which limits and removes human rights. If there was ever any moral high ground for the UK to tell other countries how to manage their affairs, this ends that. How dare the world expect us to honour the basic human rights of people?

Here’s the source for my point above that refugee men are more at risk of death than women and children. The sources they link to are at the bottom of the page.

“More important than gender, however, for youngsters is family separation, the murder of a parent (more likely to be the father, since more refugee men are murdered than women), parents’ emotional well-being, experience of torture by a family member, or the number and intensity of traumas.15-16,19,22”

It baffles me to hear the left talk about illegal immigration. They seem to think that any attempt to stop people breaking the ing law is bigoted and outrageous! They are ILLEGAL immigrants. Understand? They have come here illegally

Seeking asylum isn't illegal.

I won't call you old-fashioned, but I will call you ill-informed, despite the CAPS, italics and outrage.

Aveisenim · 22/06/2022 17:49

It's been gradually coming for ages, along with the schools bill etc. We're essentially fucked.

Lonelycrab · 22/06/2022 17:54

Is there any chance that those that voted against Johnson in the vonc might vote against this bill, or abstain?

Jalisco · 22/06/2022 18:41

They are ILLEGAL immigrants. Understand? They have come here illegally.

And it astonishes me how uninformed the rabid right wing are. The rhetoric of the Tories doesn't make something a fact. They are not - even when you scream it loudly - illegal immigrants. Even by UK law they are asylum seekers. They may not have what the law considers "legitimate grounds" to seek asylum, but that is an entirely different matter and subject to the determination of UK and international law. Understand?

OP posts:
ShouldersBackChestOutChinUp · 22/06/2022 20:39

Let's say it again. Seeking asylum is not illegal.

And again. Refugees are not illegal immigrants.

So bored of the uninformed

ShouldersBackChestOutChinUp · 22/06/2022 20:40

Next is the reintroduction of capital punishment.

The swing-on-their-legs morons will love it.

Kendodd · 22/06/2022 20:50

Yanbu OP, the director this government and its voters are taking the country in are terrifying.

Some poetry -

Fascism: I sometimes fear...

I sometimes fear that

people think that fascism arrives in fancy dress

worn by grotesques and monsters

as played out in endless re-runs of the Nazis.

Fascism arrives as your friend.

It will restore your honour,

make you feel proud,

protect your house,

give you a job,

clean up the neighbourhood,

remind you of how great you once were,

clear out the venal and the corrupt,

remove anything you feel is unlike you...

It doesn't walk in saying,

"Our programme means militias, mass imprisonments, transportations, war and persecution."

It baffles me to hear the left talk about illegal immigration. They seem to think that any attempt to stop people breaking the ing law is bigoted and outrageous! They are ILLEGAL immigrants. Understand? They have come here illegally. Call me old-fashioned, but I don't believe people should be rewarded for breaking he law.

This problem is only going to get worse and worse. And the reason is simple - Africa's birth rate. Africa has the highest birth rate in the world. In fact, its birth rate is so high that its population is going to double by 2050. (Yes, I know many of the current migrants are from Iran and Afghanistan; my point is simply that this will never end).

I don't see why it's such a big deal to want full control over your borders. If they really are refugees, and really are "fleeing war and persecution," as everyone says, then where are the women and children and old people? Normally, the young men stay behind to fight, while the women and children and elderly flee. Truth is they are mostly rootless young men, and in many cases, no doubt, the only thing they are "fleeing" is the police!!

I didn't vote for Brexit, but I see no reason not to trust our own legal system. The liberal-left generally hate Britain (and especially England), so naturally they will prefer European courts to our own. It's the left who are scaremongering.

So many problems with your post.

I assume the people you are particularly frothy about are those who are travelling my boat or lorry.

The demographic of that particular group is predominantly people from Iraq and Iran. People from Africa make up 16% of the people who have travelled via 'irregular means'

www.gov.uk/government/statistics/irregular-migration-to-the-uk-year-ending-december-2021/irregular-migration-to-the-uk-year-ending-december-2021

Those who are travelling by irregular means are seeking Asylum, you can only do that once you are in the U.K. so you have to travel here to claim it which means you are not illegal. Of the people who claimed asylum 72% were granted it on initial application and of the appeals 49% were subsequently granted it. So evidently those claims were valid and the claimant had a right to Asylum under the rules our government have defined.

Next is the reintroduction of capital punishment

I never would have given this credence previously, but frankly, with BJ on the ropes at the mercy of the party ultras, and our mass sleepwalk into the wholesale erosion of basic women's, human and worker's rights, who the hell knows?

The Conservatives are far better on the subject of women’s rights than are Labour or the Liberal Democrats.

Believeitornot · 22/06/2022 21:44

absolutely not true. Just because they love a bit of trans bashing…?

ultimately they don’t give a shit about women’s rights. It’s not an active positive position to protect women, just a cynical opportunity to stir up a culture war.

mmmmmmghturep · 22/06/2022 21:46

I think you're right that shockingly authoritarian policies are way more popular with the public than some of us might like to think

Yes The Covid lockdowns and the compliance shown and the popularity of them shows this. There are still "positivity" stories run in magazines like lockdown saved my marriage or look how brilliantly i landscaped my garden during lockdown.

Lonelycrab · 22/06/2022 22:02

just a cynical opportunity to stir up a culture war

Thats about all this government is capable of.

Stir shit—->get votes. It’s about the only strategy left.

BewareTheLibrarians · 22/06/2022 22:03

@FemmeNatal I’ve seen women’s charities and similar today that are against this Bill of Rights. Here’s a couple of examples.

“The End Violence Against Women Coalition (EVAW) is clear that government plans to overhaul this legislation represents a major step backwards for victims and survivors’ ability to seek justice and a direct attack on women’s rights.”

“Last month, EVAW joined more than 50 human rights organisations in an open letter to the Prime Minister which warned that plans to tear up the Human Rights Act would endanger women and girls. We were one of several expert violence against women and girls (VAWG) organisations that responded to the Ministry of Justice consultation on these proposals, highlighting the government’s hypocrisy in making commitments to victims and survivors failed by justice agencies while removing their ability to challenge these failures.”

www.endviolenceagainstwomen.org.uk/british-bill-of-rights-major-step-back-for-women-and-survivors/

From rightsofwomen on Twitter:

“BREAKING: the Government have launched a brazen attack on our fundamental rights.

The #RightsRemovalBill erodes state accountability for violence against women and girls.

We are in solidarity with the many voices - in the women's sector and beyond - in opposing it.”

mobile.twitter.com/rightsofwomen/status/1539488353980018690

Thread here from the Women’s Equality Party:

“Undermining the ECHR and scrapping the Human Rights Act has immediate and serious consequences when it comes to systematically ending violence against women and girls. Ultimately, women’s freedom will be even more at risk.”

mobile.twitter.com/WEP_UK/status/1539628827869315072

Sure, Tories may “know what a woman is”, but what use is that if they fail to protect them?

They support women’s single-sex spaces, which is the main thing, but they have also shown their commitment by electing women to lead the party twice (giving the U.K. its first two female prime-ministers) and introduced the shared parental leave allowance.

Labour seem to believe that there isn’t even such a thing as a woman.

For all those suggesting that we can't deport foreign born criminals - we can and do. We ALSO deport people who may have committed criminal acts who were foolish enough to have been born abroad but have lived almost all their lives in the UK - how is that right? We ALSO deport people who have never done a wrong thing in their lives - anyone recall Windrush? We are ALSO intending to deport people to a third party country without proper consideration of their rights, their cases or the validity of their asylum claims. Nobody would suggest that it is wrong to consider whether someone should remain in the UK if they have somewhere else they can go and if their own actions make it questionable as to whether they should be allowed to live here. But that should never mean that we are allowed to do so without the proper consideration of their human rights. Lawyers do not exploit loopholes – they argue the law as it stands, and that role is critical to any functioning democracy. You may not care about the human rights of some people. You may think that some people don’t deserve to have their human rights protected. But when we “fast track” the denial of human rights for one person, it is another chip in the wall of your human rights….

First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a socialist.
Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out— because I was not a trade unionist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.
Martin Niemöller

Is that you the Secret Barrister? Sounds almost like it could be 😊. If not, have you read both books? They’re very good. Just finished Fake Law and it’s bang on about all the crap Raab’s been talking today. He’s a lawyer as well, it’s all a deliberate con to get votes.

WulyJmpr · 22/06/2022 22:14

I predicted this would happen way back in 2016. Brexit voters were so naive.
