I'll go first....

If you are feeling low, do something for someone else. Not because you have too, but because you can. I promise you will walk away feeling more inspired than you did before! Just be kind in life, it's so rewarding.

Do what you want.

Never rely on anyone else to feed, clothe and house you.

As soon as you rely on a man for those things you've had it. You have lost so much.

This one million times over.

Badger1970 · 21/06/2022 09:22

My DH is a very strong minded person, who always puts himself first. I've spent most of my 51 years being a people pleaser, only recently I've started to think he's actually got the right idea. So now I take a breath before I do anything, and think "is this the right thing for me/do I want to do this". It doesn't mean you become an arsehole, you just lose those "what the fuck am I doing this for" moments..... and it's brilliant.

PoleFairy · 21/06/2022 09:23

Never loose the ability to earn your own money and support yourself and any children you may have.

Life is too short for shit friends.

This. I so wish I'd learnt this sooner in life.

SoosanCarter · 21/06/2022 09:25

Be more Labrador

11Hawkins · 21/06/2022 09:25

Nothing good ever happens after 2am, go to bed.

PoleFairy · 21/06/2022 09:29

Don't waste time worrying about something that might never happen. If it does happen you only end up experiencing it twice. Once when you worry and once when it does.

Truepostromance · 21/06/2022 09:31

It’s more important to be well boundaried than to be kind.

And that truism, when something be shows you who they are believe them, and believe them the first time. Always the first time.

Financial independence is the most important gift you can give yourself.

sweatervest · 21/06/2022 09:34

dont look at your phone/the time if you wake up in the middle of the night

remember your passwords

have your own bank account

FuriousCheekyFucker · 21/06/2022 09:40

Stop watching the news.

Astrabees · 21/06/2022 09:40

Something Harvey Smith said on a TV interview, which I've applied to all areas of my life. If you have a horse and work with it just aim for a 1% improvement from base level every day. After 100 days you have a horse that is twice as good as when you started.

rnsaslkih · 21/06/2022 09:43

I am really sorry to write this OP, but as a former very kind people pleaser, I am not inclined to be kind at all. No good deed goes unpunished. Kindness is often seen as weakness and bullies sniff that out a mile off.

My top tip, I'm afraid, is to avoid other people. Because many of them are bullies and will take advantage.

silverbubbles · 21/06/2022 09:45

Don't say 'yes' to everything people ask of you. Turn down things you don't 100% want to do or have the time for.

Comvit · 21/06/2022 09:57

Swap handbags for rucksacks

Use temporary tattoos with gay abandon

Start weight training

Try a completely mad hairstyle at least once

Don't waste a minute longer than you have to doing stuff you don't enjoy

Drink lots of water

Wear sunscreen every day

Remember "That doesn't work for me" is a full sentence and needs no expansion

Stop caring what people think

Don't regret a single thing

CoachCarter · 21/06/2022 09:57

Both quotes are from George Carlin, despitethefactthathehasbeendead for nearly15 yearsa, lot of what he talked about is still relevant toda.
“Never argue with an idiot. They will only bring you down to their level and beat you with experience.”
“Think of how stupid the average person is, and realize half of them are stupider than that.”

ChnandlerBong · 21/06/2022 10:03

Be the best friend you can be

Don't waste too much time or energy shouting at the kids. It makes everyone unhappy and talking calmly to them and listening can often be just as effective. Changed my world overnight that one...

HogInAManger · 21/06/2022 10:06

Be financially independent

jynnerso · 21/06/2022 10:09

@SoosanCarter that's a really good one!!

capricorn12 · 21/06/2022 10:10

My grandad used to say always tell the truth but don't be always telling it. I think that's sound advice even if I don't always stick to it!

Oestrogelsmuggler · 21/06/2022 10:11

Two that mean essentially the same thing:

“If you are distressed by anything external, the pain is not due to the thing itself, but to your estimate of it; and this you have the power to revoke at any moment.”
― Marcus Aurelius, Meditations

“There is nothing either good or bad, but thinking makes it so”
William Shakespeare, Hamlet.

In other words, you can change your life by changing how you view it.

EggRollsForever · 21/06/2022 10:13

Learn to say No early in life.

Time40 · 21/06/2022 10:13

Never grow a wishbone where a backbone ought to be

Oooh, I love this one!

My top life tip is, "If you don't eat life, it will eat you" - said by the great Joan Collins, and I've quoted it on here before, but it's worth saying again.

Drink from the best glasses. Use the fine china, carry the expensive handbag- any day and every day.

I Like this :-)

I sorted my wardrobe out a while ago .. and have started wearing my nice dresses on the school run :-)
