I'll go first....

If you are feeling low, do something for someone else. Not because you have too, but because you can. I promise you will walk away feeling more inspired than you did before! Just be kind in life, it's so rewarding.

Do good deeds and think happy thoughts.

They can’t hang you for thinking.

Be a ‘hello person’ and not a ‘good morning person’

Smiles are free.

Always ask for forgiveness, never permission.

We're selling beans* (replace as needed) not saving lives.

Clean the shower whilst you're in it.

Grow tomatoes.

From my Pilates teacher: every opportunity you get - stand on one leg. Waiting for the bus, brushing teeth, washing up, waiting for kettle to boil - 30 second intervals on either leg. Improving your balance and strength in your ankles has huge benefits as you get older.

Watch the wheels, not the indicators.

alwaysoutdoors · 22/06/2022 21:41

Love many, trust few, and always paddle your own canoe.

My granny taught this to all of her grandchildren.

NeverDropYourMooncup · 22/06/2022 21:44

Bad stuff happens. Sometimes it's your fault, sometimes it's somebody else's, sometimes it's nobody's fault. And life can knock you down time and time again.

Get back up. You can be scared, you can be in pain, you can be so, so very tired that you just want to stay down there. But you get back up. Today. Not tomorrow.

Get. Back. Up.

@Oestrogelsmuggler I have also found those quotes helpful. Obviously terrible things still happen but sometimes I have been able to reframe my thinking.
I’m also a big fan of the Sunscreen Song!
I was once told, “You can’t stop someone who’s falling,” which is sadly true.
I also love Mother Teresa’s philosophy, “ Not all of us can do great things, but we can do small things with great love.”

Do things today to help tomorrows you.

Dominoz · 22/06/2022 21:51

Don't worry about what other people think of you, worry about what you think of them.

How many people actually live by these tips? Are they something you incorporate into your personality or something you aspire to do?

I live by mine

MrsElm · 22/06/2022 22:04

Have realistic expectations.

Be clear about what your priorities are.

Be kind, always.

Izzieloo · 22/06/2022 22:05

Buy the best bedding you can afford .

Momicrone · 22/06/2022 22:06

What's the difference between an hello person and a good morning person?

NoNoNoooo · 22/06/2022 22:09

Fantastic thread 🙂

Keep those who gossip and badmouth others at arms length, otherwise you’ll just end up being their next victim.

NancyDrooo · 22/06/2022 22:13

Nobody ever said on their deathbed that they wish they’d spent more time at work.

NancyDrooo · 22/06/2022 22:14

Drink from the best glasses. Use the fine china, carry the expensive handbag- any day and every day.

^ this, and light the posh candle!

Fairislefandango · 22/06/2022 22:16

Delete social media.

Yes, this. I've never joined because I knew it would be unpleasant/addictive/numbing.

I have FB and Instagram and have never experienced anything remotely unpleasant on either. I use FB to keep up with friends and family and Instagram to follow accounts connected to my hobbies. I see far more unpleasantness on MN tbh (and find it far more addictive!). Traditional social media is only as unpleasant as the people you're friends with!

Try to be the person your dog thinks you are

This!! Got tears in my eyes because my dog of a lifetime is 12 now and I won’t have him much longer. He’s the best person I know!!!

Sorry, this one is a cliche

Scotland32 · 22/06/2022 22:27

Life’s too short to stuff a mushroom

Never go on holiday anywhere less nice than your own house

Imabadmummy · 22/06/2022 22:27

JFDI - Just Fucking Do It
This was my husbands mantra when we had our 1st kid.
Stopped things getting put off, left until the last minute or forgotten about & gave him something to focus on when rocking a 1 month old at 3am.

I wish I could use the sentence "that doesn't work for me" but I find it hard. For some reason I still find myself needing to give reasons for saying no to something.
I'm working on that - I feel it's a good thing to do to stop that overwhelming feeling of drowning in commitments.

What's the difference between an hello person and a good morning person?

The smile on the face and the lift in the voice

True though!

Sorry reductionist and oversimplistic.
