I'll go first....

If you are feeling low, do something for someone else. Not because you have too, but because you can. I promise you will walk away feeling more inspired than you did before! Just be kind in life, it's so rewarding.

Don’t lend people money…

Tubs11 · 21/06/2022 15:15

Live every day as if it's your last

''Your first thought is your correct one''

Especially when it comes to people.

Listen to your inner guide if it's yelling at you jumping up and down.

Don't override it.

Oh, and you know all those lovely candles you can't bring yourself to burn because they are so pretty.......just burn them!! Don't be outlived by a candle.

Thanks. I don’t quite so bad about the £260 I just splurged on the Diptyque limited edition Citronella!

Clangyleg · 21/06/2022 15:26

Don’t be naive about what males are capable of, and that includes your family member.

Buy the red lipstick
Drink the cava
Be inappropriate

Sadly I did this and ended up with a terrible drinking problem!
My top tip is to listen to your heart and head and don't do anything you really don't want to , just to please others. That's how resentment grows and eats you alive. And contrary to what people without a drinking problem might say - do not use alcohol as a crutch.

Seraphinesupport · 21/06/2022 15:28

as soon as hes a twat, move on. Lifes to short to waste time on twats.

Tomorrow is not guaranteed.

Absolutely. My uncle and aunt were due to move abroad to her home country at the end of this month but he died a few weeks ago. He was only 66 and this was their dream

getupstandupsitdown · 21/06/2022 15:52

It's a lot easier to get into situations than it is to get out of them. Backing out of friendships, relationships, social groups when you need to is really hard.

Hause · 21/06/2022 15:55

Don’t EVER move in with your in laws! 😩

PupInAPram · 21/06/2022 15:58

Pay close attention to people's actions, not their words.

I LOVED this song when it came out and still play it regularly! It's all true though!!

Thefroglover · 21/06/2022 16:07

@MoltenLasagne I unload the dishwasher while the kettle is boiling too. I make a game of it, in that I try to unload and put away the dishwasher before the kettle boils.

Also load the dishwasher as you are cooking. Gets the bulk of it done while you wait for stuff to cook
Always leave the kitchen in a ready state for when you start the next day. Ready to go again with loading the dishwasher, cooking etc.
Always do jobs as they appear, don't put them off as they then collectively become a right old long chore.

Marmite17 · 21/06/2022 16:18

Apologise.

Watchkeys · 21/06/2022 16:18

Angle your rear view mirror so that you have to sit up straight to look in it.

This is excellent and true advice.

If you want it and can afford it buy it - do it. Life's short.

Agree about twatty men too - when they show you who they are, believe them!

Practical stuff: "wrap" pillowcases/bottom sheets inside duvet cover like a parcel so you don't have to scrabble about looking for whole bed sets.

And in this warm weather, fill your dc's water bottle a third or so with water and put in the freezer overnight (without the lid). Lovely cold water all the next day (my dc think I'm a genius for doing this 😆).

I do a short tai chi routine while the kettle boils and get the dc to empty the dishwasher Grin

But also my 3 dating rules in life:

No doctors
No married men
No one called Terry regretted that when I met a gorgeous, single, non-doctor Terry, but one rule had to be frivolous

Why no doctors?

iloveeverykindofcat · 21/06/2022 16:36

@longtompot It's true. We forget it, but it is. A few years ago I temporarily died after a freak accident. As in, was clinically dead for a few minutes. If I hadn't been revived, I wouldn't have known a thing about it. I have zero memory of the event or a few days before it or a few days before it, my memory goes -

  1. ordinary Sunday night [Literally nothing]
  2. Wake up in hospital on Thursday. I can't say I literally live every day as though its my last because that's not really practicable but I'm definitely more sanguine about the future.
ThreeRingCircus · 21/06/2022 16:37

Own your mistakes and if you've messed up, say sorry.

I used to be terrified of admitting when I'd fucked up and would try to hide it but I distinctly remember a time I made a mistake at work and decided I needed to own up to it and apologise. It was a turning point for me. If you are sorry and you mean it people are generally more forgiving than you may think.

In a similar vein....be authentic. Tell people the truth and ask for what you want...the worst thing they can say is no. If you want something from your partner for example, or they're doing something that annoys you then tell them.

Fairislefandango · 21/06/2022 16:37

as soon as hes a twat, move on. Lifes to short to waste time on twats.

Amen to that. It should appear automatically at the top of threads on the relationships board!

NervousFlyer2022 · 21/06/2022 16:38

You can fit a single duvet in its cover in most washing machines and in my experience they don't get that bunched up. Not sure if that's good housekeeping or a bit slovenly! I just hate putting duvet covers on and off so shove them in the wash whole and the duvet gets a swish too. They dry out quite quickly as long as they're not feather or high togs...

I LOVED this song when it came out and still play it regularly! It's all true though!!

I wrote the lyrics down in a notebook and put it in DD's case when she left for Uni, many years ago. She's a red head so the "wear sunscreen" line was written in capitals. 😃

AclowncalledAlice · 21/06/2022 16:42

My own tip is , never love anybody (you haven't given birth to), 100%. Always keep a bit back for yourself, because you never know when you might need it.
