I'll go first....

If you are feeling low, do something for someone else. Not because you have too, but because you can. I promise you will walk away feeling more inspired than you did before! Just be kind in life, it's so rewarding.

Buy stocks and hold them for decades.

blueshoes · 21/06/2022 13:52

"Also, invest time and respect into all work relationships at all levels. It massively helps staff retention and morale and (as I found last week) when you are up shit creek with a seemingly impossible brief to fulfill, all the people who respect and admire you will come forward and step up. Actually feel a bit tearful about that one - in a good way!"

@honeylulu that's nice.

Love this thread!
Mine would be: be good to those that are good to you and fuck the rest 💪

ItsLisaLou · 21/06/2022 13:53

By all means feed into your savings account, build up that pension, invest in the investments but NOT at the expense of enjoying your present. You don’t know how much time you have to enjoy life, so don’t put it all off till a (not guaranteed) final chapter.

MoltenLasagne · 21/06/2022 13:56

Well mine isn't deep and meaningful but it improved my life after I read it on MN .

Unload the dishwasher while the kettle boils.

skybluee · 21/06/2022 14:00

Bulk buy. It'll save you a tonne of money. If you can't afford to bulk buy, start off very small. Miss out an item or do without, for example, then buy e.g. two washing up liquids for say 1.50 instead of £1 each. Then use that 50p to put towards bulk buying something else, e.g. baked beans. Then all of the little amounts add up. Milk - if you buy a pint it's expensive. 4 pints is only 30p more than 2 pints. If you buy a pint a day and switch to buying the 4 pint bottles, then you save over £10 a month! Then eventually with your savings you can go on to even bigger savings like bulk buying loo roll etc.

AtLeastPretendToCare · 21/06/2022 14:02

Start a pension early. Compound growth makes all the difference.

JoeCrackers · 21/06/2022 14:03

Wear Sunscreen

MachineBee · 21/06/2022 14:07

Live for today with an eye on the future.

Value kindness.

Buy comfy shoes.

Don’t assume other people will always appreciate what you do for them.

SatinHeart · 21/06/2022 14:09

A similar one has been said already, but:

Don't take criticism from anyone you wouldn't take advice from

Also

Worrying doesn't stop the bad things from happening, it just stops you enjoying the good things

Both of these I read on MN

MachineBee · 21/06/2022 14:14

When using money off vouchers - save the saving in a pot or savings account. Mounts up very quickly and you have a nest egg to enjoy for something special.

How many people actually live by these tips? Are they something you incorporate into your personality or something you aspire to do?

Get a dog

From my late father:

Money is just paper blood.

From my late father-in-law:

It's nice to be nice.

Pick up your dog's poo.
Never wear high heels.
Check your furniture for woodworm.

Mine were ones I wish I’d followed in the past (re relationships etc) but am putting into practice going forwards.

Deliaskis · 21/06/2022 14:41

There's one in a movie that I always like...."check a fact before it becomes a fact".

TheMousePipes · 21/06/2022 14:53

Comparison is the thief of joy.
Own your mistakes and apologise when you realise you’re in the wrong.
Being your own boss is utterly brilliant.

KatherineJaneway · 21/06/2022 14:57

Very few people like confrontation but it is important to be assertive and stand up for yourself. Being assertive is the same as being rude, it is just telling someone where your boundaries are and that they will not be compromised.

KatherineJaneway · 21/06/2022 15:00

Is NOT! the same as being rude

floridana · 21/06/2022 15:09

Always be scrupulously honest, even one small lie can make people doubt you when it matters.
