youngestisapsycho · 20/06/2022 12:46

I just bought a pack of 16 to throw in the snack tin... opened them up and they are not individually wrapped anymore?! When did this become a thing?? Now I have to wrap them all individually in cling film! FFs! 😖

@Chickenpeppers I can believe that. I am guilty of shopping there far too often...Everything has excessive packaging, you are right.

PriamFarrl · 29/10/2022 20:58

To add to your FFS, M&S tea cakes have meat in them. Tunnocks don’t but they don’t sell them on Ocado.

LynneBenfield · 29/10/2022 21:00

The orange M&S ones used to be delicious. I haven’t had them since the packaging change though, so now I’m destined to be disappointed.

Lookingforrecommendations · 29/10/2022 21:02

They taste awful now too, like cooking chocolate

coconotgrove · 29/10/2022 21:09

c190 · 20/06/2022 12:52

They have changed the recipe as well

I thought this too, and am so glad you think so. The chocolate coating is now thicker, I think because they're no longer wrapped in foil.

They're absolutely vile now. I no longer buy them.

Diversion · 29/10/2022 21:32

@Neverendingdust I also eat them in a particular way, squish them or tap them on the table to crack the chocolate, unwrap them, eat the chocolate off the top, nibble the chocolate off the side of the biscuit too, peel off the marshmallow, eat that and eat the base last. The foil wrapping is squished into a ball and thrown at the nearest person, usually my Dad if he is with us. Childish maybe but it has been a family tradition for years and I only ever buy them at Christmas and now the tradition has been spoiled

I cannot believe you have come on MN to complain about this! First world problems... Perhaps the manufacturer has realised that they are wasting so much packaging individually wrapping them!

I cant believe you have posted on this thread to berate the op for posting a thread! 🙄

They are still using plastic trays, cardboard would be better.

youngestisapsycho · 29/10/2022 22:12

@VeronicaFranklin go and piss over someone else’s thread… maybe pick a more recent one!

Slight aside.

Teacake are amazing eaten straight from the freezer 🥰

TheHouseonHauntedHill · 29/10/2022 22:27

@youngestisapsycho

I had the same issue this week, couldn't believe it, who would want 16 exposed chocolates!!

TheHouseonHauntedHill · 29/10/2022 22:27

Veronica it's also wasted food because of no where to store them until we wanted to eat them

mellicauli · 29/10/2022 22:31

Yeah. We just had the same thing. 16 salted caramel ones. Had to eat them all to stop them getting despoiled by exposure the atmosphere. Didn't enjoy them at all. Completely disgusting. All 16 of them.

SpookyPanda · 29/10/2022 22:32

Not good for portion control is it? It's like QUICK EAT ALL 16 NOW or have a stale one in a fortnights time

SpookyPanda · 29/10/2022 22:33

Imagine receiving them from the food bank and thinking great!! A treat for my kid for 2 weeks plus two for me! Then no. Useless.

Longleggedgiraffe · 29/10/2022 22:34

Sorry, is this a wind up? I hope so. Otherwise... YABU .FFS, just adapt. Wrap them individually in foil, or put them in lunch boxes as they are. Why on earth is there all this angst over a luxury snack that is not individually wrapped? I imagine there are millions who would give anything to have any type of food, let alone the worry about how it's packed.

FakingMemories · 29/10/2022 22:35

youngestisapsycho · 20/06/2022 12:48

Because they get taken in packed lunches or thrown in someone's bag...

Then wrap the ones being taken in a lunch box in cling film as and when you pack them. Just like you would any other biscuit.

Nah I'll just buy those penguin dupes instead

Back21970 · 29/10/2022 22:39

I used to buy these all the time for my mums snack jar when she was in a care home - they had a nice variety of flavours and were often on multipack offers so worked out cheaper than Tunnocks usually.

Unwrapped wouldn’t have worked at all,, and who has the time or the energy to wrap up things like this themselves! I would have not been happy and would have stopped buying them.

Disappointing from M&S.

BagpussBagpussOldFatFurryCatpuss · 29/10/2022 20:25

I'm very late to this thread but WTF have they done?

I have bought these many times on and off over the years and had them long long ago as a child... Why have they changed them?

They always came in plastic trays and still do (so no eco packaging change for the better there), they were bigger, wrapped in foil (good for lunchboxes) and you could peel off the chocolate shell.
The marshmallow was light and spongy and now it's rubbery.

They are awful.

Buy the proper Tunnocks Tea Cakes. Tin foil wrapped and in a cardboard box. No plastic.

TabithaSally · 29/10/2022 22:47

I always find the marshmallow in the M and S ones tasteless and rubbery - unless they've changed them since I last had one.

Tunnocks are amazing, I've had 2 today! I miss the dark choc ones though, can't get them in my supermarket anymore.

tillytown · 29/10/2022 22:49

YABU for buying them, they taste stale now

Sparklingbrook · 29/10/2022 22:52

How has everyone even managed for the last 4 months? Grin

Ilovelblue · 29/10/2022 22:52

Dolares · 20/06/2022 13:13

YABU for buying anything other than Tunnocks Teacakes 😁

Those plastic trays are daft. They should ditch them but keep the teacakes individually foil wrapped.

Oh Tunnocks are the absolute best, especially the dark chocolate ones.

Ilovelblue · 29/10/2022 22:53

TabithaSally I was in Scotland earlier in the year and hunted for the dark chocolate ones everywhere. Ended up finding some in Tesco in Dundee - I bought up half the shelf! I hardly ever see them in my area of North West England.
