FFS... M&S teacakes

I just bought a pack of 16 to throw in the snack tin... opened them up and they are not individually wrapped anymore?! When did this become a thing?? Now I have to wrap them all individually in cling film! FFs! 😖

How annoying. That is a great photo of them all snuggled up!

Neverendingdust · 20/06/2022 13:17

Tweet M&S and complain. I’m guessing it’s to keep costs down or there’s a foil shortage? Im glad I know about this because I’d buy them now and again to take to work but I’ll avoid them.

Tunnocks are still foil wrapped and Home Bargains always has them in.

Quackpot · 20/06/2022 13:17

Protecting our environment is everyones responsibility, including yours. Please don't cling film them all individually. Pop them in a tupperware box.

We all need to be taking steps to reduce our single use plastic consumption, nothing needs to be wrapped in a packed lunch box if you buy the ones with separate compartments.

StrawBeretMoose · 20/06/2022 13:18

It's a PITA.
We get those for work meetings because they are individually wrapped, so more hygienic without other people touching them. No one will want to be the designated wrapper of teacakes.

SoupDragon · 20/06/2022 13:18

Surely they won't go stale as they are covered in chocolate

SoupDragon · 20/06/2022 13:19

Sainsbury's sell little clip top boxes that I bet are exactly the right size for a single tea cake.

best bet is simply to eat them all now though.

Neverendingdust · 20/06/2022 13:20

Also the last few I’ve bought were all smashed up which I found very frustrating as I eat them in a very specific way.

Nibble off the chocolate, then peel the marshmallow off, eat the base then follow up with the cloud of delight. 👀☁️

BarbaraofSeville · 20/06/2022 13:21

Teacakes taste stale when you buy them, it's not like the foil is airtight.

We have some tiny clip top tubs that came in packs of 3 from the pound shop that are good for this sort of thing, also for putting single portions of sauce or whatever in the freezer.

YABU for buying anything other than Tunnocks Teacakes 😁

Those plastic trays are daft. They should ditch them but keep the teacakes individually foil wrapped.

Did you know that Tunnock's are made of Italian meringue rather than marshmallow? That's kind of useless info cloggin' up my noggin.

IfIhearmumagaintoday · 20/06/2022 13:22

Quite a lot of M&S packaging has changed like the Victoria sponges it looks so cheap now and the loaf cakes!

Pipsquiggle · 20/06/2022 13:23

This will be part of cost cutting and potentially a new supplier if there's been a recipe reformulation and a packaging change

Tunnocks?

JuneJubilee · 20/06/2022 13:23

tunnocks are nicer anyway!!

well, now that you've opened them they'll go soft (even chocolate covered Soupy). It's your duty to protect your family from this softening of biscuit bases. Lots of tea & see them off!!

JustRestingMyEyesForAMinute · 20/06/2022 13:25

I think there's far too many in that Tupperware box. You'll need to reduce the amount in there by two. Maybe even 3 just to be safe.

That's all been covered in the chat already... thanks tho 😊

@RevoltingHumanHead I actually did know that. I have been to a factory that makes lots of different types of meringues in Scotland and they told me about Tunnocks teacakes

yes... I can hear them squealing that they're a bit squashed... I need to make more room!

They’re probably not as nice as Tunnocks anyway. And Tunnocks are individually wrapped.

They’ve also changed their greetings card designs- they’ve gone from ‘decent for a last minute card’ to card factory tack literally overnight. I don’t know who designed them or signed them off but whoever it is, isn’t very good.

That's exactly how I eat them too! 👏

I'm very late to this thread but WTF have they done?

I have bought these many times on and off over the years and had them long long ago as a child... Why have they changed them?

They always came in plastic trays and still do (so no eco packaging change for the better there), they were bigger, wrapped in foil (good for lunchboxes) and you could peel off the chocolate shell.
The marshmallow was light and spongy and now it's rubbery.

They are awful.

Chickenpeppers · 29/10/2022 20:29

Not the point of the threat but it's fantastic if M&S are trying to reduce their single use plastic use, they are one of the worst companies I know for it.

Chickenpeppers · 29/10/2022 20:30

@BagpussBagpussOldFatFurryCatpuss Fuck sake this thread is old.

@Chickenpeppers
June this year. Not that old!
Had to check it wasn't from 2006 or something 😅

They still come in plastic trays so not more eco friendly at all.
Just horrible cheap teacakes.

SpookyPanda · 29/10/2022 20:38

If they aren't wrapped how are you supposed to keep 16 of them nice for the fortnight plus it would take to eat them?

I work with M&S on the supplier side, so unfortunately many customers don't see that side of it, they use an insane amount of plastic packaging, request extra packaging on their shipments and require products which are generally shipped in eco friendly packaging or cardboard to be shipped in plastic. They are one of the worst companies I've ever seen for plastic waste which they actually refuse to allow suppliers to recycle. If anyone reading this is interested in buying from a company who cares about the environment, including on their suppliers end, shop at Aldi.
