Complete with choreographed claps and sprints.

YABU: Why not? It's just music.
YANBU: I'd rather not, thanks.

I also turn the radio off when Michael Jackson comes on and he gets played a lot. The pay outs and the dream team oj lawyers speak for themselves . Jury's often get it wrong with sexual abuse and assault cases as it's very hard to prove . A grown man having sleepovers with children is enough to ban his music anyway . Can you imagine if a pop star today was doing this ???

I always feel there’s a bit of a double standard with this. Gary Glitter / Lost Proffits are shunned (fair enough), but Michael Jackson is still played widely.

Personally I wouldn’t make a big fuss during the lesson, but maybe just have a quiet word with the instructor afterwards. They might be oblivious.

I agree. I always remember rolling my eyes when someone on BBC radio asked for MJ song to be played for a children's charity. Or perhaps I shouldn't have been surprised 🙄

As for Michael Jackson, he was found not guilty, is now dead so can’t defend himself, and given he was rather odd (given his own traumatic childhood) he was an easy target for false allegations by those wanting money. Benefit of the doubt there IMHO.

Traumatic childhoods don’t make you have small children for sleepovers when you’re a grown man. How on Earth did my parents generation think it was ok? I remember as a child thinking he was a fucking weirdo and my parents saying he just never grew up....wtaf? Same generation of parents that thought Jimmy nonce Saville was ok though. In plain sight. Bastards.

Michael Jackson and Pete Townsend.
I like the Who but the gushing over Townsend's talent is annoying.

I turn the radio off if Jackson comes on. Should be banned along with the other sickos.

I agree.

No one could believe MJ was innocent. Have you seen the Netflix doc?

The jury did. I don't necessarily but I certainly think his guilt wasn't demonstrated at trial beyond a reasonable doubt. I haven't seen that documentary.

Really, watch it. It’s as clear as day.

Scepticalwotsits · 17/06/2022 07:50

No, but like OJ Simpson, it's quite obvious he was guilty. Money and power gets people off. GG simply wasn't as A list as Jackson or Simpson. Or even Johnny Depp for that matter.

I wouldn’t put JD in that group of a dead cert getting off free.

both him and Amber were both clearly toxic, however Amber clearly purjued herself in the UK case, was demonstrably a liar and has single handedly set back womens ability to be believed in abuse cases.

It's played on a lot of films and TV shows. I would imagine thr instructor has heard the song and downloaded it for her class without a second thought. I often find songs from movies and TV shows I like and download them, couldn't tell you the artist for most of them.

Also I had no idea this was a Gary Glitter song, have heard it many many times over the years. I was 9 when he was convicted, didn't know anything about him and only knew 'My Gang's from the spice girl movie.

I agree with this, i wouldn't listen to GG but I wouldnt know if I heard it that it was a GG song!

His victims are still alive and that matters.

MJ was guilty and I never want to hear his music again.

Same for GG and ignorance is no defence. I would mention it to the class teacher.

Jackson was found not guilty. The evidence against him was fairly weak. That's a pretty big difference.

Exactly.

Nitgel · 17/06/2022 07:57

I wonder what Gary glitters band views are on all this.

Trixiefirecracker · 17/06/2022 08:16

I think his songs should never get airplay again. Same with Lost Prophets and Michael Jackson etc

Georgeskitchen · 17/06/2022 08:23

Gary Glitters song "Rock and roll Christmas" was really good . I wish someone would cover it and bring it back to life . Many younger folk won't know it was GG song

anotherbrewplease · 17/06/2022 08:25

Michael Jackson is on constantly. No one bats an eyelid.

anotherbrewplease · 17/06/2022 08:27

@EllieFAnt82 watch the full length documentary on MJ - there's no query at all. He just had more money to throw at lawyers.

Exactly. Anyone who thinks MJ was innocent is deluded.

Wasn't David Bowie sleeping with 13 year old groupies when he was in his 20s?

NotMyCircusNotMyCircus · 17/06/2022 08:45

Anyone under the age of about 35 could easily be unaware of his crimes. He was convicted 23 years ago... have a quiet word with the instructor

A lot of stuff went on back then, hoards of teenage girls trying to get into hotel bedrooms. I would certainly have tried to break into Les McKeowns hotel room 😂 As one big star (can't remember who) quoted a few years ago "nobody really asked to see a birth certificate "

But they were well known as the 'baby groupies' and Jimmy Page tried to hide the relationship he was having with one of them due to her age? So unlikely that David Bowie was unaware. Bowie and Led Zeppelin are still well loved and listened to.

You'll be rocking in your stocking when you see your big surprise .... you'll never guess what you've got from me

I found it on an old compilation I had from when I was 12 and just listened to the words. The problem with it is not just that he sang it but he was one of the songwriters, too.

Well the jury seemed too. Not everybody believes what was said about him.

evilharpy · 17/06/2022 09:50

I had no idea this was a Gary Glitter song! Just looked it up out of curiosity on youtube. I know it from The Full Monty but assumed it was part of the original soundtrack and not an existing song.

As an instructor I wouldn't use GG, R Kelly or MJ for that matter in any class.

StEthelburgaRose · 17/06/2022 09:54

I wish GG had needed an operation as a child and they'd somehow accidentally made him completely asexual so I could enjoy the song Rock and Roll
