Some adverts are so bad you’ll never purchase the product?

That bloody Abel and Cole as has just been on whilst I was happily listening to LBC radio. It’s so crap, especially compounded by the fact that the young lad can’t sing (I’m sure he’s lovely but he’s time deaf).

I’d never purchase from them as the advert winds me up so much; what adverts put you off the company to this extent?

I also hate any cereal adverts, the Ariel ones and ones where women are doing every shitty domestic crap for the men and children.

I'm a sucker for most adverts with cute dogs in though!

The Nationwide adverts. The cod poetry ones were awful but the new one where the woman witters on and on is even worse.

Ugh yes!

The safestyle windows ad with that horrible shouty man. I'd rather choke than do business with him.

They used to phone my parents every Sunday teatime for ages, even though they were told (truthfully) that my parents had recently had new windows fitted. So they are arseholes in real life too.

I've never bought any cilit bang because I didn't like that shouty BARRY SCOTT. I don't even know if they still use the same actor in the ads now as my mind just tunes them out.

Me too. It also annoys me that when it came out it was supposed to be one product that did everything. So why have they now got a whole range? Also any "new improved product"; after they've been telling us for years how good the previous one was!

BinleyMegaChippy · 12/06/2022 19:42

The Experian advert that is played on LBC. Man singing badly. Soon as it comes in, the volume goes down. I can't stand it. Hurts my ears.

agree with the money supermarket ad
Judy dench has sunk so low

Agreed I am mystified why top actors, who presumably don’t need the money, do rubbish adverts. Brian Blessed seems to endorse almost anything. Philip Schofield pretending to be annoying doesn’t work because he really is annoying.

NeverDropYourMooncup · 12/06/2022 19:47

Plenty - but the newest is Boots' summer campaign - I don't think they really meant to suggest that tombstoning off a harbour wall is a fundamental part of holiday enjoyment, but that's what it's showing.

KittenKong · 12/06/2022 19:49

What’s the summer holiday one with the Christmas song? Obviously not a great ad because I can’t remember who it’s for? Just that the fact they use a Christmas song is very annoying.

My sister worked for an ad agency in the 90s and they used to do a lot of the cinema ads. Apparently they were supposed to be cheesy and all crackly/jumpy.

HardRockOwl · 12/06/2022 19:50

@Borka but that's a joke? An ironic spoof. I'm surprised you've not spotted that.

KimikoSDream · 12/06/2022 19:51

Susan Calman's Bank of Scotland adverts.

I absolutely cannot stand her. She is so desperate to be a national treasure but she's just deeply irritating.

The annoying thing is I have bank accounts with the Bank of Scotland and I'm very happy with the service provided but if I didn't those adverts would put me off switching to Bank of Scotland

These are probably my most hated ads

Especially when the the unbelievably upmarket technician says he will install straightaway with no mention or discussion of the price!

KimikoSDream · 12/06/2022 19:54

NamelessBaby1 · 12/06/2022 19:06

Hah, same here. Glad I'm not the only one to hold a petty grudge for so long!

It was a joke. It was meant to be naff.

DoraSpenlow · 12/06/2022 19:55

Any advert that's on every sodding ad break, all evening.

At the moment the one that raises my blood pressure is the one for, I think, Dettol anti-bac spray. "WARNING - YOU ARE ABOUT TO SEE GRAPHIC IMAGES OF GERMS!". Then goes on to say " Germs you can't see, like here, here and here." If you can't see them you don't need to be warned, FGS.

Was also going to say the Experian one on the radio. My hand goes to the off button by about the second note.

Ashamed to say I do like the Haribo ones with the kids voices for grown-ups. Sorry.🙂

roundpegsquareholes · 12/06/2022 19:56

That McCains "daddy or chips" one.

Reminds me of cannibalism.

SirGawain · 12/06/2022 19:56

00100001 · 12/06/2022 19:31

Which ones? Links please.

Aptamil.

roundpegsquareholes · 12/06/2022 19:57

Ooh and herbal essences orgasm in the shower noises. So so cringe. "I'll have what she's having" Confused

NamelessBaby1 · 12/06/2022 19:57

@KimikoSDream well obviously, but I was a bit like "fine then" and just refused to buy them and now I'd rather just always have something else lol.

JayniSummers · 12/06/2022 20:00

I'd rather slam my left t*t in a car door than book a holiday with "on the beach" if that family are their target audience/ customer . Vile , arrogant, rude obnoxious family .and they've murdered one of my favourite Xmas songs .....

MammaWeasel · 12/06/2022 20:01

Brian Blessed advertising those cleaning wipes for floors. Environmental nightmare. BB has gone right down in my estimation.

Oh that one made me laugh!

The current ones are a bit… hmmm.
They say they are giving grants to families with disabled or seriously ill children and young people - and I’m not trying to belittle any families situation, but all the ads I have seen are with cute little kids with autism and tablets/iPads. So not a child lying in hospital with burns
or in a hospice.

SirGawain · 12/06/2022 20:03

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 12/06/2022 19:28

The cremation one with the shit party makes me laugh, though...

Worse than the Sun Life insurance ones.

KittenKong · 12/06/2022 20:04

Radio ads are a very special type of irritating…

SunflowerGardens · 12/06/2022 20:05

Holy shit, this thread just took a sinister turn Confused

EatYourVegetables · 12/06/2022 20:06

@Scuttlingherbert PopCo is the book!

FreddyVoorhees · 12/06/2022 20:07

Adverts that are clearly dubbed. Looking at you Calgon. If you're going to dub please do a better job than 70's Kung Fu films.

That holiday one with the deeply punchable family.

Ones with deeply shit cover versions because they don't want to pay the licensing fee.

Ididanamechange · 12/06/2022 20:08

I try and avoid anything that has a celebrity endorsement. unless its something like perfume or beauty products which seems par for the course, it still doesn't tempt me to buy it but it doesn't bother me so much. The ones that really irritate me and make me actually avoid buying the product are when they have celebrities trying to sell me bread, or coffee, or sofas or washing tablets. Maybe if they weren't paying said celebrity their fee they could offer their product a little cheaper!

KittenKong · 12/06/2022 20:08

Sorry - was that me being an absolute cow there? It just that they sounded like they were donating to families (children and young people) with various (in their words’ disabled and ‘serious ’) and but every one I have seen has been for the same thing - and shows a cute little kid.

I know they are flogging chips…
