My friend has my baby's photo on his phone screen

Am I the only one that thinks it's strange? We went to his BBQ party last night. When we arrived and got sat down this friend excitedly showed me DD's photo I had shared on a WhatsApp group, on his phone's Lock Screen.

I thought it were weird as people are going to see it and think that's his child, no? I asked for my DH's opinion and he didn't see the problem, in fact he thought it was sweet of him!

For context, this friend is gay and married to his husband. Very broody and wants kids via IVF/adoption in the next couple of years.

I just thought people put their own kids on their phone screen. AIBU? I'm willing to be told otherwise!

I think it’s fine. I’ve had pictures of my nieces and nephews on my phone screen, and I don’t think that’s really different to having a photo of a good friend’s child.

sonjadog · 11/06/2022 12:05

I think it is a bit strange, but not enough to do anything about.

Moosake · 11/06/2022 12:06

Really really odd

Blossomandbee · 11/06/2022 12:06

Unless he's a very close, long term friend who very involved with your DD, then I think it's weird.

Imaginary · 11/06/2022 12:07

It is weird. The fact that it's a man makes it even more weird.

sparepantsandtoothbrush · 11/06/2022 12:07

Lucky he's not married to someone else's husband 🤣

I think it's a bit odd to have someone else's baby as your lock screen though

ZigZagZen · 11/06/2022 12:08

How close is he with your DD? If he spends a lot of time with them then I don't think it's weird.

ForestFae · 11/06/2022 12:08

I don’t think it’s that weird,

It is weird. The fact that it's a man makes it even more weird.

Why?

PlanetOnwin · 11/06/2022 12:13

It seems odd. But I can't put my finger on why.

He is a close long term friend. He's seen DD a handful of times but not involved in her actual care.

I wouldn't have a problem with it.

Well in that case, I vote: bit weird.

DD is only 2 months old. So I'd say he's seen her about five times since she were born and he those dote on her when he's here but I never thought anything of it.

No big deal, it's sweet.

I currently have my friends puppy, I'm not trying to pretend she's mine, it just makes me smile

before that my youngest goddaughter

it's weird to think it's weird!

LateAF · 11/06/2022 12:17

I wouldn’t mind - especially since he was upfront about it. Would probably be spooked if I saw it randomly though.

peachy3 · 11/06/2022 12:28

I don’t personally think it’s weird, especially if you’re close friends. My DS is also 2 months old and your friend has seen your baby more than some of my family members have seen mine! He’s obviously just excited and happy for you still.

BeforeSheKnewIt · 11/06/2022 12:29

It's not a big deal. Presumably he cares about you, and DD may be the nearest he'll get to experiencing parenthood.

Irishfarmer · 11/06/2022 12:31

I would find it a bit weird personally. But as he is desperate or a child of his own I don't think I would say anything/ make a deal out of it. At least he showed you too, she obviously doesn't think it is anything to be ashamed of. As you are close friends he might think of himself as DDs uncle

Antarcticant · 11/06/2022 12:32

I can't personally understand why anyone would want to do that, but there's no harm in it. I suppose if you are the sort of person who goes 'awww' at generic baby pictures, it would be like me choosing a cute kitten off the internet as my screensaver, if I didn't have my actual cats to use (which is certainly something I would do and think nothing of it).

SaltandPepper22 · 11/06/2022 12:33

I have my niece sometimes. I don’t think it’s that weird tbh

ComDummings · 11/06/2022 12:34

Creepy

BobbinHood · 11/06/2022 12:34

I find it a little odd but if he’s broody etc that probably explains it. I’m sure I had my nephew on mine on occasion before I had my own DD.

PaintingClocks · 11/06/2022 12:36

I don’t think it’s weird at all, especially if he’s quite close to you
