To be concerned that the Depp/Heard trial has put off genuine DV victims from coming forward?

The Depp/Heard trial was troubling to me.

On the one hand, people do sometimes make false allegations, especially after relationship breakups.

On the other hand, dragging someone to court for alleging domestic violence might deter some women from reporting it.

Assuming the court got it right and Depp was not a perpetrator, how could he have handled the situation so that it would not put domestic violence victims off coming forward for fear of being sued?

Worrying all round.

typo, four out of five

Pumperthepumper · 10/06/2022 19:14

What evidence do you have that he wasn’t losing roles because he was older, bloated, an addict and difficult to work with? Coupled with the upcoming trial of assaulting someone at work?

TiddyTidTwo · 10/06/2022 19:15

"I also think there’s something specifically about Johnny Depp that sways public opinion, I think a lot of people see him as affable, loveable Jack Sparrow and can’t separate the man from the character"

That's true also.

I couldn't believe it when I got into the trial. I didn't know much about the whole situation before, apart from MSM which I now avoid like the plague. I thought Amber was stunning and was on her way up but didn't know much about her. She's really disappointed me

IOnlycreatedaccountforthispost · 10/06/2022 19:21

@TiddyTidTwo exactly!

IOnlycreatedaccountforthispost · 10/06/2022 19:23

@Pumperthepumper I withdraw my earlier comment…. if you’ve watched the trial I’ll eat my bloody hat 👒

Cool, you can stop tagging me to tell me now.

@Pumperthepumper nope!

A friend sent me this which I thought was an interesting and disturbing read

https://docs.google.com/document/d/1rgcwaYtAilfXz-1fsOuZZ_hiQe24DXGKsQmmK40ZevE/mobilebasic

This writer has drawn up an outline of the events - no full details - then applied them to her experience of DV patterns. She clearly hasn’t followed the trial in detail and seen how Heard’s claims of being viciously beaten up on numerous occasions was contradicted repeatedly by multiple witness testimonies and other forms of evidence.

I hadn’t thought about Johnny Depp for years and was no big fan. When the case came out I took AH’s claims seriously as I would anyone making such claims,
but after following the trial and hearing AH’s claims of vicious beatings yet photos showing some possible light marks when from her account she would be black and blue her credibility was shot for me. This was further compounded by police and concierge staff all testifying seeing no bruises shortly after alleged vicious attacks. Her account didn’t add up.

Pumperthepumper · 10/06/2022 19:50

The text messages he sent to Paul Bettany were very clear. And the ones to his agent.

TiddyTidTwo · 10/06/2022 19:53

Well I'd like to see what she texted others also, but she strangely failed to hand over her phone for evidence. Depp didn't, handing it over knowing full well it would be entered into evidence.

Why? It wouldn’t change his text messages.

WiddlinDiddlin · 10/06/2022 20:00

Do text messages punch people in the face? Is a text message the same as a punch in the face, or rape?

Do text messages to a third party, that the person they are about does not find out about until years later, equate to abuse of that person or are they simply unpleasant/vile/gross etc etc.

I really don't think so.

The text messages were disgusting, though the really disgusting bit actually sounds nothing like anything he has texted that we have heard before (the 'i want it. i take it' bit) - that reads like a totally different author and I am not remotely surprised he claimed he had not written or sent that text.

They are however, just text messages, they were not sent to AH, to abuse her, they were not sent to someone else to incite violence or other action against AH.

And as many many of us have pointed out... we don't get to see AH's texts.

Many of us also point out, many of us have written some pretty vile things that, taken out of context, read in a different tone, convey a very different meaning and feeling.

TiddyTidTwo · 10/06/2022 20:00

Like I said, he didn't cover himself in glory but he did hand over his phone.

We don't know what she's said.

Pumperthepumper · 10/06/2022 20:01

You’ve written messages about killing someone and raping their corpse?

Pumperthepumper · 10/06/2022 20:01

TiddyTidTwo · 10/06/2022 20:00

‘Didn’t cover himself in glory’ is pretty cutesy language. He was abusive. So was she.

"Many of us also point out, many of us have written some pretty vile things that, taken out of context, read in a different tone, convey a very different meaning and feeling"

Oh I have to my friends about my ex and they were very much in context and just as vile but a woman taking a man down. I didn't mean (all of) it though, I was venting with insane fury as that was my outlet.

TiddyTidTwo · 10/06/2022 20:15

‘"Didn’t cover himself in glory’ is pretty cutesy language. He was abusive. So was she"

I don't disagree.

I'd put him more into a reactive abuser bracket and her the aggressor, mostly by listening to the audio (about 8 hours in total available)

Surely most victims go to the police rather than the newspapers? Who publishes rather than pursue a legal remedy? Only somebody who used to be married to an A list star - excludes the vast majority of ordinary women. Nobody was interested in AH's article unless she alleged SA by Depp.

The belief that this will stop women coming forward is whataboutery to distract from the outcome, because so many people have invested in AH, imo.

Pumperthepumper · 10/06/2022 20:24

It’ll be interesting to see what happens in July though.

Do you think his next girlfriend will come forward if he’s abusive to her, after all of this?

TiddyTidTwo · 10/06/2022 20:30

"Do you think his next girlfriend will come forward if he’s abusive to her, after all of this?"

I'm watching Eve Barlow too.

Pumperthepumper · 10/06/2022 20:35

Why?

TiddyTidTwo · 10/06/2022 20:37

Her new partner.

Pumperthepumper · 10/06/2022 20:38

TiddyTidTwo · 10/06/2022 20:37

Her new partner.

And do you think it’ll be ignored or ridiculed if Amber Heard is abusive to her?

TiddyTidTwo · 10/06/2022 20:42

If she comes forward with allegations I'd believe Eve. Difficult one when there's two women isn't it?

Also ambers need PR rep. Both spotted getting off a private jet today. AH a representative of the MeToo movement

I'll tell you now, she does not care about women. This isn't the only source, there are plenty.
