To be concerned that the Depp/Heard trial has put off genuine DV victims from coming forward?

PetraBP · 09/06/2022 09:23

The Depp/Heard trial was troubling to me.

On the one hand, people do sometimes make false allegations, especially after relationship breakups.

On the other hand, dragging someone to court for alleging domestic violence might deter some women from reporting it.

Assuming the court got it right and Depp was not a perpetrator, how could he have handled the situation so that it would not put domestic violence victims off coming forward for fear of being sued?

Worrying all round.

Abusive behaviour isn’t just hitting, i thought that had been established by now

yes, I know that and you know that but I was answering your point about posters saying that women cannot be abusive and where I have seen it on MN and various JD/AH threads.

AdamRyan · 11/06/2022 18:18

I think most feminist posters think that AH behaviour does not justify abuse.

It's very dangerous to suggest that abuse is understandable in some circumstances. And by saying they were both abusive, but the verdict was correct you are effectively saying JD abused AH because she deserved it.

Whereas I think noone deserves to be abused. And I'm not excusing AH but this trial was about JDs behaviour.

TiddyTidTwo · 11/06/2022 18:37

"what did you think of his white house speech?"

@RufustheFloralmissingreindeer

Heartfelt, emotional, passionate, heartbreaking. He's a real family man, caring, compassionate and deeply empathic.

TiddyTidTwo · 11/06/2022 19:00

Oh god @RufustheFloralmissingreindeer I watched it again and am crying.

I know he said about gun control but speaking at the whitehouse he had to be "diplomatic".

I don't believe for a second he thinks anyone should have a gun.

"Green converse" 😢😢😢

Also, as per usual there's those "he's an actor" blah blah blah.

He absolutely was not acting.

Btw not in relation to this thread and don't want to derail - just replying to Rufus.

"I doubt she has wandering womb syndrome given it doesn't exist"

Sorry what's this about? Can't find it on here (probably missed it)

You said about BPD.

FrippEnos · 11/06/2022 21:36

AdamRyan

And by saying they were both abusive, but the verdict was correct you are effectively saying JD abused AH because she deserved it.

That is the usual twist on what people haven't said.

TiddyTidTwo · 11/06/2022 22:12

Sorry @bigfootisreal im totally confused?

bigfootisreal · 11/06/2022 22:23

You mentioned something about BPD so I said that wandering womb doesn't exist.

RufustheFloralmissingreindeer · 11/06/2022 22:33

completely agree

RufustheFloralmissingreindeer · 11/06/2022 22:34

AH has done an exclusive TV interview to be spread over two nights this week.

This is the longest piece I've found. Ignoring the presenter, this is what she's said so far so obviously much more to come.

BlanketsBanned · 13/06/2022 15:53

I wonder if she will claim she cannot afford to pay JD when she has flown in by private jet. Who advised her to do this interview, isnt she just digging herself into another big hole questioning the integrity and intelligence of the Jury.

TiddyTidTwo · 13/06/2022 16:18

The gaslighting and lies won't stop with her.

This kind of stuff makes me so mad. It was her team that went on tv first, her statement that doubled down and was all about me, me, me and now this tv exclusive.

Let her do it I say. Give someone enough rope......

To be concerned that the Depp/Heard trial has put off genuine DV victims from coming forward?
Friars23 · 13/06/2022 18:02

She is unbelievable agreeing to such a statement being released. She gaslights the public too y framing events since the trial which are obviously false. Her lawyer went on tv shows so no different to Depp’s lawyers giving some interviews and Heard’s lawyer did it sooner. Also it’s quite obvious Depp’s one tik tok video with a short message thanking people for their support is not equivalent to her now doing a feature length tv interview complaining about the result.

I came upon this case report report by a Swedish female Professor of Criminology assessing the credibility of Heard and Depp’s testimonies in the U.K. trial using a structured assessment. The assessment in contrast to the U.K. judge did not find Heard’s testimony credible. www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.1080/24732850.2021.1945836

"a spokesperson " so deniable if it all goes down the pan

TiddyTidTwo · 13/06/2022 18:41

And "randos" (smirk)

Wtf? Witnesses perjuring themselves including Kate Moss?!?

The jury are obviously stupid but they can't help it.

SM are horrible because they don't believe me. It's not fair!! (I see she didn't mention MSM who have been gaslighting us along with her)

She couldn't put her thoughts or feelings across in the 6 week trial?!? Oh I think she did. Pity she missed out any credible evidence

Watch in all the glory how a narcissist works. The delusional behaviour, gaslighting, DARVO. The lot. Here it comes..

She testified under oath she wanted to move on and Depp leave her alone. Yet another lie.

She won't leave it alone. It's her. She won't stop until she is properly stopped. She's continuing with her abuse and her hoax, everyone else is lying or stupid.

You know, I felt a teeny bit for her and hoped she would get help and focus on her child. Course she won't. And still surrounded by enablers.

TiddyTidTwo · 13/06/2022 18:42

@Friars23
That link is brilliant. Detailed and credible. Thank you

BlanketsBanned · 13/06/2022 19:03

I hope there is no response from JD or any of his legal team, its time for her to move on, concentrate on her mental wellbeing, daughter and getting a job to pay her debt.

If they were both abusive then the verdict was not correct as Heard’s piece would not have been defamation if true.

In that circumstance the jury should have found against both parties.

TiddyTidTwo · 13/06/2022 19:09

@BlanketsBanned

She won't. She sent Elaine out first and has now thrown her under the bus. She's complete self serving

I hope JD makes her pay every penny now. (donates it to the childrens hospital though). I originally thought he'd let her off. I hope he doesn't as that's an enabling green light.

I'd like JD to move on but how can he when she's doing this?

TiddyTidTwo · 13/06/2022 19:12

"If they were both abusive then the verdict was not correct as Heard’s piece would not have been defamation if true"

That was just one incident where Waldman claimed they set the whole thing up on that one day when the police were called.

Hardly a win v his win.

They did find against both parties, she was awarded 2m.

Sorry Iris I think I read your post wrong! Posted now...no edit

cushioncovers · 13/06/2022 19:14

I don't think it would stop people coming forward. That trial was ridiculous in many ways and not relevant to normal day to day life.
