To be concerned that the Depp/Heard trial has put off genuine DV victims from coming forward?

PetraBP · 09/06/2022 09:23

The Depp/Heard trial was troubling to me.

On the one hand, people do sometimes make false allegations, especially after relationship breakups.

On the other hand, dragging someone to court for alleging domestic violence might deter some women from reporting it.

Assuming the court got it right and Depp was not a perpetrator, how could he have handled the situation so that it would not put domestic violence victims off coming forward for fear of being sued?

Worrying all round.

Back to the thread. I posted this elsewhere but thoughts on this?

This is a Stanford Law Professor

Why are you calling me a misandrist?

TiddyTidTwo · 10/06/2022 23:42

To add context. This is an attack on Camille Vasquez.

Oh god, this is just more misogyny! Just more rule number one, it’s always women who are at fault

bigfootisreal · 10/06/2022 23:44

HRTQueen
They really have, I've seen them there were hundreds of exactly the same message put out word for word in support of JD quite an unusual message so clearly someone controlling that space to put it out there in such a great amount to try and round up support and make it look like lots of people supported him.

TiddyTidTwo · 10/06/2022 23:44

@HRTQueen sorry, how are the court docs and depositions for the July case anything to with SM?

TiddyTidTwo · 10/06/2022 23:46

@Pumperthepumper

Yep. She's also attacking the judge, also a woman.

So why am I a misandrist, and what’s your point with the Twitter link?

The reason the case was possible was because it was in the public domain I believe, that's why the case was able to go forward

TiddyTidTwo · 10/06/2022 23:49

@Pumperthepumper that women are attacking other women to stand up for Heard.

I don't get it.

How does that have anything to do with the thread though? And why am I misandrist? I’ll accept an apology if you still can’t think of a reason.

TiddyTidTwo · 10/06/2022 23:59

The thread is about the ultimate effect on people coming forward.

I think that Twitter link demonstrates that some want to ensure women don't come forward. I could post more from her and her ilk but they're easy to find. Most turn their comments off. Can't think why?!? Pushing the narrative hard as I believe this case has actually helped equality. I see copious female survivors are annoyed and insulted with the likes of "Michele law professor" and gaslighting people that what we saw and heard wasn't real and now, ultimately turning their backs on these feminists. They are the ones causing the damage.

Such garbage. People turning their backs on women will lead to equality? Abusive men being held up as heroes leads to equality? Public court cases of toxic relationships lead to equality? Not to mention the money-grabbing accusations.

No apology then?

You have decided one is a chancer but shall wait to decide if one is guilty on evidence

again this blind faith of a powerful man is not good for society how does anyone stand up to a man with such power

the power of sm shouldn’t be underestimated it’s become so toxic and damaging but rarely to wealthy powerful men

AdamRyan · 11/06/2022 00:06

TiddyTidTwo · 10/06/2022 23:27

But you can’t explain why you think it?

Same reason you think I'm a misogynist. .

I think anyone who calls a woman a misandrist is a misogynist.
It's like white people inventing a word and calling black people that word if black people say the white person is racist

It's ridiculous. Women are systematically oppressed by men around the world. Misogyny is the attitudes and values that support that.

Men are not systematically oppressed. Misandry is an invented term to put women "back in their box"

TiddyTidTwo · 11/06/2022 00:06

"People turning their backs on women will lead to equality?"

Yes. It's all there to read. It's women survivors who refuse to be gaslighted standing together and they're the majority. I've had some brilliant conversations on there. I'm not sure why people want to continue to polarise, because "men". It's not about men v women it's about truth.

Backing a liar and refusing to budge which many are doing will inevitably cause the collapse of MeToo

AdamRyan · 11/06/2022 00:09

TiddyTidTwo · 10/06/2022 23:28

Every single thread on MN has gone the same way. Every single one.

That's true. Large because rabid Depp supporters start insulting people who might express any opinion other than "Depp is entirely reasonable and Amber is the cause of all his woes"

TiddyTidTwo · 11/06/2022 00:10

"It's ridiculous. Women are systematically oppressed by men around the world. Misogyny is the attitudes and values that support that"

Don't disagree.

If it’s not about men vs women, why they whole thing about women turning their back on other women/people with xx chromosome digs?

Me Too can’t collapse, it’s a movement to highlight sexual assault in the workplace. Victims not being believed will just stop victims coming forward. So if that’s what bothers you, stop saying accusers are too smiley on instagram
and only after money.

Apology?

TiddyTidTwo · 11/06/2022 00:11

"That's true. Large because rabid Depp supporters start insulting people who might express any opinion other than "Depp is entirely reasonable and Amber is the cause of all his woes""

But that's not true though is it? You just like to think that

AdamRyan · 11/06/2022 00:14

Interestingly irl I have now spoken to lots of people and my sample of people say:

  1. they are both toxic and I'm not interested so have no opinions
  2. they are both toxic and its impossible to figure out what happened - both should have lost their case
  3. johnny is abusive and has used the courts to further abuse amber

Not one person I have spoken to in real life has said Amber is the abuser and Johnny is innocent

It's very different to threads like this and did remind me that loads of noise on here isn't necessarily representative of what people think

TiddyTidTwo · 11/06/2022 00:16

My experience with people is very different from yours Adam

I agree with this. Misandry doesn’t exist but people use it like it’s a gotcha.

It's impossible to have a discussion with these types because they're not actually interested in the truth.

It was the same with Michael Jackson.

TiddyTidTwo · 11/06/2022 00:27

Wrong on all counts.

I posted a link to get the thread back on track. Prior pumper called me a misogynist as I think AH employing a sex pest is shit on her part. so I fired back but you've conveniently missed that part and the continuous goading when I've tried to change the subject.

You're one of the posters on the other threads that just try to shut anyone up that does believe AH or disagree with you.

I've also tried to engage pumper since but he/she can't help herself

I don't believe AH.

I don't hate her. I think her behaviour is abhorrent. She needs medical help, not enablers

I don't think depp is innocent.

I think what's happened is a positive development overall for the reasons I stated
