In what world do you believe only women can be “survivors of abuse?”
I’m a survivor. And while I’m a woman, and while there’s the “believe all women” narrative out there, I certainly don’t buy into it.
There was Tara Reade, who accused Joe Biden of sexual assault. She changed her story about a dozen times. I felt, after listening to her and watching her, that she was about as believable as a £9 bill.
Same with Amber Heard’s pitiful “performance” in court. In no world was she believable, with her “crying” and looking intently at the jurors and her 1920’s hairdos (sorry, that was mean). I know for a fact that when you’ve been abused, the shame prevents you from meeting people in the eye when speaking on such topics. She was pure Sarah Heartburn.
In the 50+ years since my rape, my story has never changed, my need to embellish has never materialized and I never felt the need to trash my rapist on an international scale. I never wanted ANYONE to know my humiliation. Plus, my rapist convinced me, at 15, that it was all my fault. He was in his 60s.
My rapist, after years of harassment on his side, killed himself and left a note confessing to everything. It didn’t make me as happy as I thought it would - but I was relieved.
I was relieved that I could finally put it down.
I won. That fucking bastard lost.
But if you think only women can be abused, then you didn’t listen for five minutes to Mr. Depp, and you certainly did no research into the subject before you wrote this post.
I ask you to please, for all survivors, reconsider.
