To think this is too much for a year 6 prom dress

DD is in year 6. Her friend has got her prom dress from JJ house and DD wanted to have a look on there too so I agreed.

The dress she’s chosen is £53 and will cost £17 to post.
Aibu to think this is too expensive for a year 6 prom?

Her shoes and accessories are yet to be bought!

We can afford it but I’m conscious of not ‘spoiling’. She’s really kind and thoughtful and recognises that we’re privileged and has said so ( with no prompt from me when looking at the dresses). I know she’ll be grateful and take it for granted but I’m still hesitant.

aibu?

ps if anyone can direct me to junior bridesmaid dresses sites that are cheaper, I’d appreciate it very much!

To what extent does your comment here answer the OP's question or add to the information value of the thread?

Is it none?

And those saying how ridiculous a year 6 prom is are being helpful are they? Righto.🙄

I clearly remember my Year 11 prom dress being £50 (the most I'd ever spent on an outfit at the time!), and that was 21 years ago. So I'd say yours sounds a bargain!

If they're all likely to have fancy dresses then I would be inclined to let her have the one she wants @Motherinapickle.

My DD2 has hers soon but it's just been named "the year 6 leaver's disco." It's about 2 hours long, in the community hall next to school and they're ordering Dominos. She'll probably wear leggings, trainers and a nice t-shirt.

When DD1 had her year 6 disco I let her wear a dress as I thought everyone else would be. It was one that she already had, I didn't buy new but she felt overdressed - all her mates were in jeans/shorts and nice tops!

That was my point.

They are @BusySittingDown. I’d much rather they had something similar to your DDs tbh.

Year 6?? What are the boys wearing? Surely parents won’t be expected to buy or hire tiny suits that never get worn again.

At least with a party dress, it could get multiple wears.

I tried to get my wedding shoes from there and was an utter disaster and the refund took forever. They also claim items are custom made so unrefundable.
