To be shocked by the leavers jumpers

My dd is leaving primary school this July and we have been sent a link to order leaver jumpers.
The design has their school name and year on the front in large letters and on the back their teachers name and class mates names (including surname) with hand written messages of good luck printed all over.
I might be over reacting but I’m seeing it as a safeguarding concern that these kids will be wearing them around showing their name and school in public. (They’ve been asked to wear them to school for all next term as part of their leavers production outfit)
Should I point this out to the school or forget about it?

I totally agree as both a primary school teacher, and a mother of a y5 child I would not be buying a jumper with surnames on.

Goldencarp · 02/06/2022 19:18

Some of replies in here 🙄. Honestly if you don’t want your child’s name on there - don’t . It really is that simple.

some parents are utter bonkers !

Buythedammshoes · 02/06/2022 19:22

Massively overthinking this — my daughter just had her first name on hers.

ScotsGranny2 · 02/06/2022 19:39

The hoodies are definitely not unusual but I've never heard of, or seen, names of fellow pupils on them. Personally I have no problem with first names on them but wouldn't be happy with surnames included.

Blantw · 02/06/2022 19:46

I'm guessing it's an academy.

Do people like you really exist?

Unfortunately they do. I know a couple 😆

People who can identify a safeguarding risk?
people who have fell victim to an abuser or preditor because they had access to information to forge trustworthiness?
people who have had to see and deal with the consequences of what happens when a paedophile rapes or sexually assaults a child?

yes those people exist. And yes they can become concerned when their child's personal information is paraded around on a platter.

All it takes is
"hi little boy, my son John Smith goes to your school, do you know him? Let's go find out if he wants to go to mcdonalds with you. get in the car"

very easy when school name, class, teachers name and the names of all of your school chums are on your hoodie

It's funny that because I teach my kids not to go off with strangers and what to do if a stranger approaches them. Don't you? These kids are 10/11, not 3.

Lem1984 · 02/06/2022 20:08

Never heard of a leavers jumper other than on here! It sounds ridiculous....just get a fucking marker pen and let the kids sign each others shirt

Renalmum · 02/06/2022 20:15

Well said. Thought that comment was out of order.

JustABloodyMinute · 02/06/2022 20:16

I'm sure the ones at our school only have first names.

Lily4444 · 02/06/2022 20:35

In my day it was just first names but it seems to have become quite normal to have full names. Personally just for safety I would just put a first name and initial of the surname e.g Lily A

Matildalamp · 02/06/2022 20:58

I really thought this was going to be about the jumpers of people who voted leave 😂

Pinkbasketcase · 02/06/2022 22:04

There is always that one parent- you are that parent!! You are being very unreasonable!

DietrichandDiMaggio · 02/06/2022 22:22

But generally I agree that surnames don't need to be on the hoodie. They don't really add anything anyway.

Well if you have 3 Alexs in the year it does add something

Wheelz46 · 02/06/2022 22:45

The school definitely should be gaining permission from parent's for the children's full name to appear on the hoodie, our school certainly do.

Although could be awkward if 2 kids had the same first and last name and one parent wanted their child's name on and the other didn't 😬 I know it's highly unlikely but I did attend primary with 2 kids who had the same name, fortunately leavers hoodies were not a thing then!

Smashedavacado · 02/06/2022 22:46

Oldest DS (24) had leaver's hoodie for end of both Middle & High Schools with surnames. Never struck me as a safeguarding issue - there was always the option to opt out. Hoodies were quickly assigned to the back of the wardrobe! Also you couldn't identify which child they were from the huge list anyway.

I don't believe in school uniforms in any way so...

ChiefWiggumsBoy · 02/06/2022 22:50

I think at the age we’re expecting children to get themselves to and from school alone, they should also know that if they wear a top with their name on it then someone might read it. They should know by now about dodgy adults.

This isn’t school uniform so…what point are you trying to make exactly?

Rosebel · 02/06/2022 23:29

At both primary and secondary school my DDs leavers hoodie had first and surname on.
The school name is pretty obvious but the names are tiny. When searching for her name on the hoodie it took me ages to find it.
No one is going to see what names are on there just walking down the street.

LoisLane66 · 03/06/2022 01:54

Never heard of it and I've never seen anyone wearing a school hoodie. Mostly private schools here and they don't wear hoodies, not even the state schools. If you see teens and older wearing one then you know they don't live here.

TimeFlysWhenYoureHavingRum · 03/06/2022 02:14

"Leavers hoodies" for a primary school is batshit imo!

EveryFlightBeginsWithAFall · 03/06/2022 02:22

Ours don't have any names on them but I couldn't get worked up if they did. The names must be so small I don't see how you could read them walking down the street

BadLad · 03/06/2022 02:39

I thought this was going to be a Brexit thread, with jumpers like this one.

To be shocked by the leavers jumpers
Ortega888 · 03/06/2022 05:46

Of course it’s a safety issue and it’s not right that these jumpers are allowed anywhere at all in the first place. You can’t get somebodies information over the phone due to data protection so why give people and random strangers that
information on a jumper it beggars belief. I would definitely say something
