Another parking one

House on the market, owners still living there, viewers turn up and park in the drive. The street is busy but plenty of on-street parking available.

AIBU to think this is cheeky as fuck?!

If I was selling a house I'd make a point of encouraging viewers to park on the drive. The last I want is them starting off with the impression parking (as a visitor or resident with extra car) is a pain in the arse. Would put me off thr house

Seems like a sensible place for them to park.

This was done to death a last month in another thread if you want a read through:
www.mumsnet.com/talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/4522545-cf-would-you-park-on-the-driveway-of-a-house-you-were-viewing-to-buy

Chemenger · 28/05/2022 11:05

We have just sold our house. We moved our car off the drive for every viewing to make it easier for viewers to park. Because we wanted to make them like the house and buy it. Not rocket science.

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 28/05/2022 11:05

I wouldn’t do it, it’s not my drive to park in, but I don’t think I’d be cross off viewers did.

This. They shouldn't come in and start rifling through your wardrobe or counting your spoons in the drawer, but when your house is for sale and arranged viewers come around, it's kind of become like a shop rather than a private house.

Momicrone · 28/05/2022 11:06

Eh? Isn't that the right place to park?

alfagirl73 · 28/05/2022 11:09

If it is the driveway of the property they are viewing then I think it is entirely reasonable to park on the drive. Without knowing what the drive in this situation is like, if I were considering purchasing a property with a driveway, it would be an opportunity to check that the driveway is, in fact, suitable for my needs (wide enough, any issues with angles, visibility when emerging from it, etc...) - some driveways can be a pain in the arse to park on or to get out of (as is often demonstrated with parking threads on MN) - so I'd say it's actually sensible for them to park on it as part of the process of viewing the property and deciding if it is for them. They are considering purchasing the whole property - which includes the drive - so makes sense.

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 28/05/2022 11:09

Are you a bit territorial about your driveway or something?

Yeah, I am!

Which is all fine and good, except that they're potentially looking to make it their driveway, if they buy the house. You might as well say they can't look around the house itself, as, like the drive, it's yours and not theirs; but then good luck with ever finding a buyer at all.

MarmaladeLime · 28/05/2022 11:10

You've basically invited them round to view the house so it's fine. Like any other guest.

SpringIntoChaos · 28/05/2022 11:13

Is it YOUR house that's being sold? So you are objecting to potential buyers parking on the drive of a house they may be considering purchasing?

Or...are potential buyers of a NEIGHBOURING house for sale, parking on your drive whilst they view the neighbouring property?

If it's the first scenario...get over yourself, good lord!! 🤣

If it's the second...then yeah, they are being unreasonable 🤷‍♀️

coffeecupsandfairylights · 28/05/2022 11:15

😂but why?!

If someone is coming to visit you/view your house, why on earth can't they park on your driveway?

HappilyHadesBound · 28/05/2022 11:15

Should they park on the drive off the house their visiting? Obviously! It would be ridiculous to expect them to park anywhere else! Do you want them to peer through the windows with binoculars from the street as well rather than daring to enter the drive and house?

I'm stunned that this is even a question!

supersizeforaquid · 28/05/2022 11:15

Hilarious…. Where should they park op?

bumbledeedum · 28/05/2022 11:16

You're expecting someone to pay however many hundreds of thousands of pounds for your property and you don't want them to be able to test out parking on the drive? God forbid they want to do anything really rude like open a fitted cupboard.

DonnaRhea · 28/05/2022 11:17

I'm disappointed with this post
I expected a juicy parking conundrum

TheDivineOddity · 28/05/2022 11:17

That's not a parking one, how disappointing.

PuppyMonkey · 28/05/2022 11:26

Well, it’s better than parking in front of your drive and blocking you in isn’t it?

I don’t even need to ask for a diagram for this thread, very disappointing.

BeforeGodAndAllTheFish · 28/05/2022 11:32

Part of viewing a house is having a go on the drive!
So many are built with tiny drives now and rather than stand there looking at it, you can just drive onto it and make sure you're happy with it.

parietal · 28/05/2022 11:34

of course they should park on the driveway of the house they are visiting. perfectly normal

Same- it's not a parking thread!

londonrach · 28/05/2022 11:42

I take it their parking on the drive of the house their visiting ...what's the problem ..that's where you should park. If your drive I totally understand and you should tell them to park on the correct drive

MermaidEyes · 28/05/2022 11:42

SleeplessNightAhead · 28/05/2022 11:01

Yeah, I am!

Hilarious! Good luck selling up with that attitude 🤣

Soakitup37 · 28/05/2022 11:45

I send thoughts and prayers over this one.

what stressful dilemma(!)

Mellowyellow222 · 28/05/2022 11:46

I don’t understand why this is a problem??

am I missing something?

SquigglePigs · 28/05/2022 11:50

Of course you park on the drive of the house you want to buy. You need to see how easy it is to get on and off before you commit to buying.
