Another parking one

House on the market, owners still living there, viewers turn up and park in the drive. The street is busy but plenty of on-street parking available.

AIBU to think this is cheeky as fuck?!

I don't understand how using a drive to park in when you're viewing it is wrong? Better than blocking the road. I think you need to stop curtain twitching and get a hobby.

Clevs · 28/05/2022 13:45

It's fine as long as their car doesn't leak oil!

If I was selling a house I'd make a point of encouraging viewers to park on the drive. The last I want is them starting off with the impression parking (as a visitor or resident with extra car) is a pain in the arse. Would put me off thr house

Exactly this. We had already planned to make sure the drive was free each time we had a viewing, but the estate agent told us it would be a good idea, so that viewers didn’t have to go around looking for parking.

They sound exactly like the sort of people who would put their arses on you sofa. Imagine the germs ...

I had a friend who wouldn't let people sit on his sofas.

TheLittleCabbages · 28/05/2022 13:52

That's exactly how I feel, it's intrusive. We've had loads of people come to view over the past week and no-one else has parked on the drive. There's a perfectly good road right outside with ample space to park, just seems odd. I'd never park on anyone else's drive either.

it’s intrusive?! They’re here to look around your house and consider giving you hundreds of thousands of pounds for it and you think it’s out of order of them to park on the drive for the time they’re there?

I've heard everything now. You’re being utterly ridiculous OP and I’m incredibly glad I’m not buying a house off you.

I'd be really put off my some grumpy unhelpful seller who wouldn't let me park in the drive.

I see you've latched on to just about the only post agreeing with you.

We bought and sold last year. Buyers parked on our drive, we parked on the driveways of the houses we were viewing if their was room. It totally normal. If I'm spending several hundreds of thousands on a property the sellers can cope with my car on the drive for 30 minutes!

Not latching on to anything, just stating that the way the person articulated their feelings on it were similar to mine.

The others have a different point of view which is absolutely fine but I don't have much to say about that as I don't need to justify my feelings on it and I'm not looking to change anyone's opinion, just wanted to know if I'm in the minority in feeling the way I do about it (which I clearly am).

I'm fine with that. Doesn't change anything, just interesting to know.

Seems ok to me, if you are viewing a house it's not cheeky to park on the drive

blacksax · 28/05/2022 14:14

YABU. The whole point of having a drive is so people can park on it ffs. It is provided for the use of both the owners of the home and their visitors.

Are you equally as possessive about the path leading to your front door?

FiveShelties · 28/05/2022 14:15

If you think parking on your drive is intrusive, how do you feel about them entering your house, looking in your bedrooms etc? To say nothing of them checking the water pressure.

That’s mental.

Do you have plastic covers on your furniture too?

IncompleteSenten · 28/05/2022 14:18

Oh, it's your house people are coming to view! 🤦 I'm so dim.

It sounds reasonable that they park on the drive of the house they are coming to view but if it bothers you, park in on it in such a way that they can't I suppose.

SunshineCake · 28/05/2022 14:44

You are being very silly.

autienotnaughty · 28/05/2022 15:11

If I visit someone house and the drive is free I park on it rather than cluttering up the street. Would you prefer they black your drive?

Coldnoseandtoes · 28/05/2022 15:22

I cant imagine being annoyed by this. They're there to view the house and the drive is part of that. I'd like to check how easy it is to get in and out, is there actually room for two cars, is it awkward to use etc.

gettingolderandgrumpy · 28/05/2022 16:25

Similar thread a bit ago when’re the op was told off by the seller for parking on her drive . The op left without viewing the house . So if you want to sell you house get over it as it won’t be yours eventually so no need to be so bloody territorial.

Dashdotdotdash · 28/05/2022 22:53

Why is it intrusive for them to park on your drive but not intrusive for them to look in your bedroom and bathroom?
