CF? Would you park on the driveway of a house you were viewing to buy?

This happened to us today and DH & I can't quite workout if we were the CF or not lol.

Went to viewing, no where to park, 1 car already on 3 car drive.

We parked on drive and got out of car

Vendor opens door, asks why we have parked on drive.

Explained we had a viewing

Again she said why have you parked on drive, her son will be home shortly

I said if it's a problem, we will just leave; so we did!

Her EA was gobsmacked when I explained why we didn't do the viewing.

Who is BU?

Her EA was gobsmacked when I explained why we didn't do the viewing.

Wow. She sounds hard work. Moving is hard enough! What did the ea say?!?!

Winterfellismyhome · 05/04/2022 16:32

Shes being silly. I presume she actually wants to sell her house...

ronjobbins · 05/04/2022 16:32

You are.

Bumpsadaisie · 05/04/2022 16:32

SWBU!

What a way to treat someone who hope might buy your house!

bonfireheart · 05/04/2022 16:33

I would have asked before parking.
Or parked further and walked.

movingonupps · 05/04/2022 16:34

@TracyMosby

Her EA was gobsmacked when I explained why we didn't do the viewing.

Wow. She sounds hard work. Moving is hard enough! What did the ea say?!?!

Just "really! Oh ok, thanks for letting us know"

TBH after that, not a chance would we risk getting into a chain with her, good luck to anyone that does

If she wants to see her house then she shouldn't be putting off potential buyers. Something tells me she doesn't want to sell.

bluebaul · 05/04/2022 16:34

A reverse. Surely?

oviraptor21 · 05/04/2022 16:34

*sell her house

Krakenchorus · 05/04/2022 16:34

The person selling the house is an idiot. Of course it is reasonable to park on the drive of a house you are considering buying.

3peassuit · 05/04/2022 16:34

She can’t be that fussed about selling her house. That saying, it is a seller’s market.

SW1amp · 05/04/2022 16:34

You’ve dodged a bullet there

If she was that weird and rude at the point she was supposed to be showing everything in the best light, I can’t imagine what a nightmare she would be during the buying process

She was being unreasonable and a total oddball

Whinge · 05/04/2022 16:34

I would have asked first.

movingonupps · 05/04/2022 16:35

@bluebaul

A reverse. Surely?
Honestly not.

We are currently on a cul de zac, we always say to people visiting etc to def come up and park on the drive.

I would have assumed that spaces had been deliberately left clear to enable us and possibly the estate agent to park. I would have thought that if so, the sellers are decent, considerate types who might be good to do business with.

That fact that the opposite was true would tell me that I have had a lucky escape.

nobabiesyet · 05/04/2022 16:35

She is being unreasonable - seeing what it is like to park on the drive is part of buying a house. I was put off one that looked like it had good parking but was very narrow. You'll find there's a back story - like a forced sale or something. She's not keen to sell. Think nothing more of it. We had one guy when looking around the house who was akward - he didnt want to sell, but divorce was pushing it through. Well avoided.

toastfiend · 05/04/2022 16:36

It wouldn't occur to me to park anywhere other than on the drive.

I'd have been VERY surprised by her behaviour and I'm really struggling to understand any posters on here who think you were unreasonable. I'd say you've dodged a bullet, though, if she's this much of a twat about you temporarily, and legitimately, parking on her drive, imagine what she'd be like during the negotiations and house purchasing process.

Singlebutmarried · 05/04/2022 16:36

Also why arrange a viewing for when you know you’re going to have people coming home from college/work?

I assume the EA has to park miles away too?

Sounds like she’d be a PITA to deal with. Consider it a bullet dodged.

SweatyChamoisPad · 05/04/2022 16:36

I wish people would. The house behind me is for sale (with parking) and all the viewers are parking outside mine! I’m not particularly precious about it but it’s at an angle on a single track and they aren’t leaving me enough room to get in…

ImInStealthMode · 05/04/2022 16:36

Sounds a bit daft both sides. We've been viewing recently and I've always checked in advance if there's parking around nearby, instead of assuming we can park at the property.

That said, whenever we've had viewings on ours I haven't been there so my parking space has been free and I wouldn't mind a viewer using it if our visitor spaces are taken by the estate agent.

We did wonder if it's the sons house and this was her way of halting the sales lol, but she wasn't elderly, only 65-70 I think.

It’s reasonable to park on the drive of a house you’re visiting. Whether that’s because your friend lives there, or you’re doing a job for them, or you’re a buyer viewing the house. She’s weird expecting guests not to park on the drive!

Looseleaf · 05/04/2022 16:38

I feel rude too now as I‘d definitely park on the drive if there’s obvious space. I do think the seller was more rude though as never heard of having to ask when you are expected and have arranged the visit !

User1234567891011121314 · 05/04/2022 16:38

Wtf

Soringhaze · 05/04/2022 16:38

I've looked at a lot of houses over the past 3 years and I've always parked on the drive. It really wouldn't occur to me to park elsewhere. If she doesn't want people parking on the drive she needs to give that instruction to the EA to tell viewers. Nothing stranger than folk!
