House on the market, owners still living there, viewers turn up and park in the drive. The street is busy but plenty of on-street parking available.

AIBU to think this is cheeky as fuck?!

I’m puzzled - you don’t want your visitors parking on your drive?

Lou98 · 28/05/2022 12:00

Is it your house that's being sold that people are coming to see? If so then YABU - surely you want your house sold?

If it's a neighbours house that's up for sale and people are parking on your driveway then YANBU, it is cheeky

itsgettingweird · 28/05/2022 12:00

If you want to sell your house I suspect you'll have to forgo your protectiveness of your driveway.

After all they are visiting your house to view it and potentially give you a lot of money to buy it!

BanjoKnickers · 28/05/2022 12:01

I'm guessing they come waltzing into your house too. Do they go upstairs peeking in all the bedrooms. Perverts. Under no circumstances let them into your bathroom. The cheek of these people.

(I mean if you want to sell your house I'd suggest being nice to people who are considering buying it.)

Butitsnotfunnyisititsserious · 28/05/2022 12:02

If it's your house for sale so the driveway attached to the house, not cheeky at all. It's not like they're staying for long.

PaddingtonBearStareAgain · 28/05/2022 12:03

Do you expect all visitors to your home to not park on your precious driveway?

SamphirethePogoingStickerist · 28/05/2022 12:06

Maybe try and remember you are selling, so the drive won't be yours for much longer.

Dashdotdotdash · 28/05/2022 12:10

Why would it be cheeky? Don't you let other visitors to your house park on your drive?

Pennox · 28/05/2022 12:12

WHAT!!

Are you seriously saying you expect someone coming to a prearranged appointment to view your house which you are hoping to sell to them shouldn't park in the space of the drive attached to your house?!?

BonnesVacances · 28/05/2022 12:16

I don't park on people's drives ever tbh. It feels really intrusive to drive onto someone's drive, like walking into someone's house without knocking. It obviously depends on who it is. But if it's someone I don't know very well or at all, I park on the road.

FlibbertyGibbitt · 28/05/2022 12:24

No.

Would you not park even if you were invited? If you put your house on the market and make appointments with people to view your house, you are inviting them.

You're an expected- no, invited- guest!

alfagirl73 · 28/05/2022 12:25

When I was house hunting - there was one house that was otherwise a real contender, but the driveway - as it turned out - was a nightmare. It needed completely re-doing, it was narrow, terrible visibility, street parking was such that just being able to pull out into the road in one turn was impossible. It's an important factor and a potential buyer needs to be able to try it out.

They sound exactly like the sort of people who would put their arses on you sofa. Imagine the germs ...

Thepossibility · 28/05/2022 12:31

I admit I'm always scratching my head at these someone touched my driveway threads. Admittedly I'm Australian and we DGAF in general by my god it's like someone's taken a shit in your kitchen or slapped your mum or something. They parked at the house they came to see? In the driveway they might buy? CF!!!

It's part if a property you are considering buying. Why not park on it, make sure there's nothing odd about it?

You're going to be poking round the whole house!

Blarting · 28/05/2022 12:32

I have a feeling of deja vu, I'm sure we've had this situation before!

maddening · 28/05/2022 12:35

If they are looking to buy the house then surely a seller would want to make sure that they have a good experience including somewhere safe to park their vehicle.

That's exactly how I feel, it's intrusive. We've had loads of people come to view over the past week and no-one else has parked on the drive. There's a perfectly good road right outside with ample space to park, just seems odd. I'd never park on anyone else's drive either.

I see you've latched on to just about the only post agreeing with you.

We bought and sold last year. Buyers parked on our drive, we parked on the driveways of the houses we were viewing if their was room. It totally normal. If I'm spending several hundreds of thousands on a property the sellers can cope with my car on the drive for 30 minutes!

Snowflakes1122 · 28/05/2022 13:36

You are territorial over the drive, that comes with the property you wish to sell? 😐

RitaFires · 28/05/2022 13:38

I think it's standard to try out the driveway of a house you are considering buying. I think it would be strange and off-putting to be told not to park there, it would make me think there was something wrong with it.

Dougieowner · 28/05/2022 13:41

We have sold two houses in the past year and both times we made sure the driveways were clear (by parking our cars elsewhere) so potential buyers could park easily and get a good idea of the amount of space available. The EA's had arranged to park elsewhere (thereby not making the street look congested) and had informed each party to park on the property. Just good manners as after all, we wanted one of them to pay us a huge sum of money!
Likewise when we have visitors, if they look like parking on the road (taking up what can often be valuable space) I will call them over to park on the drive.

HackneyMum1 · 28/05/2022 13:42

If it’s the drive belonging to the house that is being sold, what exactly is the problem here? Really struggling to understand why using a driveway that is for the use of a house that is not yours is such an issue that you need to come and post about it on Mumsnet.
